when using the fire steel try pulling back on the pharoah rod not pushing foward with the striker. This way you won't have to move around and chase the tinder caused by your hand going forward and hitting it. Give that a try and most likely you'll be successful much quicker. Great video though. keep them coming!
Great video I'm glad you didn't give up on the fire steel there nice to have there advantage over a lighter or matches is they work even when wet. Also try using pine sap with your tinder it burns very nice and gives you a few extra minutes to get your fire going.
well my empty mini bic also works in wet conditions. another guy here on youtube is showing it, he dropped a bic into a glass of water, blew onto it and it gave a nice flame after a minute. the only thing about the swedish firesteel is, its something special and cool. a mini bic isnt :)
pine sap is great to have, and should be easy to find in any european forest. but if you can prepare, do it. you'll never know if you find some in time..
I'd have to say if your bic is wet then you probably are also. So yeah I carry a lighter and matches but I'd rather be able to just get a spark instead of drying out my lighter. Also I usually pick a few pieces of pine sap as I'm hiking even if I'm not planing on building a fire just as a precaution but I agree that you shouldn't count on finding what you need in the wild its best to be prepared.
nice.......
