@iShobs not really. i've sung some of beyonce's songs and her runs seem hard, but once i tried them they're not at all. plus there is more to singing than vocal runs. Vocals runs doesn't make someone a good singer because alot of today's "artists" and "singer" actually do very sloppy vocal runs. Listen to an "Old-school" singer (Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, etc.) and hear how they use vocal runs. They use them sparingly but when they do use them, they are crisp, clean and very controlled

I have always seen trumpet potential with her voice, but I think she tries to do melismas like she's playing a sax and it don't work for her because she's not agile, her voice is too husky and broad. You know what I mean?
I agree she has no agility and her breathing is bad that makes it worse. Anytime she tackles a song thats fast she falls flat on her face. For example her version of Aretha's Think and her live versions of "All Dressed in Love" she struggles to stay with it and really doesnt have room to do much else with her voice.

Jennifer is a full soprano. She has belted a C6 live, so her voice is higher than it seems. Her main focus is belting, that is what she does best. One of the best belters imo
you may be right I actually just watched a video of her singing and she used a bit of head voice and it seemed quite easy for her. I think she does focus more belting. Her Agility is bad so I guess she would belt more, but think shes a dramatic soprano not a full lyric one a shes too powerful to be a full lyric soprano.

Well based on the mere fact that she can move through her 3 different types of voical range she has exemplifies that.She can sing in her low middle and upper register with ease.Powerfu!! However everyone is entitled to their own option.

Jen's voice is so dark and heavy way too heavy to be a soprano. what shocks me about her range is she can only go down to an F3??? i EXPECTED ATLEAST A C3 if now a Bb2 this girl has some vocal weight.lol

I don't think so. She's not a mezzo definitively. She's more a soprano, is not because she can hit C6, NO, it's because she's more comfortable in a higher zone!

yeah but i mean she still can't hit soprano c and i just found out that she's more comfortable in a higher zone like you said and in fact i don't think she can be a mezzo cause her lower range is not the most powerful or resonant so i think you're right

I didnt know that. But considering how weak her lower range is we wouldnt have heard her anyhow. She's a Soprano plain and simple. Her main problem is she lacks control in the upper register and goes all over the place live.

I would call her a Spinto Soprano because she doesn't have dark qualities and her tessitura is not low enough. She still doesn't have strong texture to be a Dramatic Soprano. You can tell all that in the middle register. Yes, we can agree and tell she is a Soprano.

Really a Spinto? She doesnt really have a lyric quality to her voice at all. She sounds very dark to me.
As a matter of fact when she debuted around the Dreamgirls Era ppl said she were an alto becuase she had a dark timbre to her voice and live she would attempt to hit high notes and fail miserably. They thought she was an alto belting out of her comfort zone

yeah, but not necessarily lack of comfort but lack of fully understanding how to use her voice sometimes. So she tends to get pitchy at times.
I have always seen trumpet potential with her voice, but I think she tries to do melismas like she's playing a sax and it don't work for her because she's not agile, her voice is too husky and broad. You know what I mean?

I agree she has no agility and her breathing is bad that makes it worse. Anytime she tackles a song thats fast she falls flat on her face. For example her version of Aretha's Think and her live versions of "All Dressed in Love" she struggles to stay with it and really doesnt have room to do much else with her voice.
I dont see her as melisamatic her voice is TOO slow she probably wont be able to pull any tricky melismas ever. Thats why I think her voice is most suited to slow ballads ala IAC

Her version of Think was bad. The face on Aretha was priceless. LOL. She should stay away from MUCH melismatic phrasing. If I was her vocal teacher, I would remind her everyday to use her higher register as cresendos, never to run with them. She's not Karen Clarke Sheard. LOL.

Yep becuase the songs alow her enough time to prepare so she wont rush each belt.
She's not an Up-tempo or mid-tempo singer IMO. When she does those type of songs it like a giant in a mine field, a disaster.

Right. I don't mind that even because she could use it to give big finishes but her voice don't have the agility to do runs like that.

Ur right its funny ppl with higher and lighter voices ie (Aaliyah, Beyonce) can go WAY lower than Jen whose voice REALLy dark. That why It's hard to classify her as a mezzo or soprano. Her head voice isnt that great and her lower range is weak. Her voice is more complicated than it appears.

Jennifer is a full soprano. She has belted a C6 live, so her voice is higher than it seems. Her main focus is belting, that is what she does best. One of the best belters imo

you may be right I actually just watched a video of her singing and she used a bit of head voice and it seemed quite easy for her. I think she does focus more belting. Her Agility is bad so I guess she would belt more, but think shes a dramatic soprano not a full lyric one a shes too powerful to be a full lyric soprano.
