As I get older I only love The Stones more. To think that it was fashionable in the early 80s for punk bands to mock them is pretty funny to me now. The idea that someone like Johnny Lydon could've ever thought that his body of musical work could even begin to compare with than of The Stones seems in retrospect so absurd that it's amazing that anyone ever took it even remotely seriously... don't get me wrong-- there's lots of punk rock that I really love.. but it ain't The Stones...

How many punk rockers did you talk to and associate with 1979 or so? It was very fashionable at the time to mock the Stones as emblematic of big stadium, bloated old-style rock.
