Okay so I bought fire red and it took me forever to beat misty. I caught a mankey and leveled him up and evolved him and owned the gym. It's an alright strategy, but it takes awhile so u have to be patient. But I chose charmander as my starter so I desided to use this strategy.

That was a risky strategy you pulled off there what I did is the with Staryu I killed it with my Charmeleon with some mega punches and for Starmie I used my Pidgioti and did nothing but Sand attacks until it died. then I switched it out with Charmeleon and killed it smoothly with mega punches

I just used butterfree's sleep powder and put the starmie to sleep and reduce it's accuracy with smokescreen and then destroy it with scratch.

i prefer to buy Magikarp earlier in game :) just train to 20 and it will evolve to Gyarados and teaches bite! wich is super effective at Starmie. thats how i did it :)

the easiest way to beat brock and misty with a charmander is to go and find a mankey for brock. Train it untill it learns low kick and karate chop for geodude, low kick onyx. Then get a picachu in viridian forest and beat misty with electric moves. Then get a sandshrew for the electric guy, evolve it into a sandslash and beat him with slash
