utter 7 news bullshit no one can say they are definitely linked to cancer cos no one has lived long enough under a powerline to know and i live in darlington in the perth hills and there are tons of high voltage 24kv lines and 32000 volt lines through the valeys around and in darlington and people living up here have a masive life expectancy.

What dumb-asses. A fluorescent tube is very sensitive to even low emf. You can rub a piece of fur on it to make the tube light up. Just showmanship. Now I'd be worried if it would make an incandescent bulb light up. We're surrounded by EMF, even before electricity. Seems like they are not worried about the wires in their walls and the emf generated from their fridges, dryers, and air conditioners.  Get a life people.

@UnderManlac I know when I was younger we had a fluorescent tube next to a ladder, and when talking on the mobile phone on that ladder, close to the tube it would light up (which I found pretty awesome)

FUCK. I have powerlines right outside my door. It literally takes me a mere 30 seconds to walk straight under one. it's next to my damn car for shits sake. Iv'e even tried climbing one. If only i'd known this earlier, i'd be much healthier. interesting experiment, I have extra bulbs as well, might consider trying myself :D but..maybe not after watching this..

@atthespeckofdawn The emf that comes from high voltage lines is not unhealthy. A fluorescent bulb is quite sensitive to such things. Hell, rub a piece of fur across it and it will light up. Rub you feet on the carpet while holding one, then touch it to a metal object and it will light up. Now if it lit up an incandescent bulb, then you'd have something to worry about. The gases in a florescent bulb is easily excited into causing the coating on the inside of the glass to fluoresce.

Also I know that in the town next to mine there are 3 very high power radio towers for AM radio all over the country, people under them used to collect energy by hanging a wire around their garden and connect the two ends to a light bulb.

EMF is something that kill you over time, being 20 years old and healthy doesn't you won't have cancer when you're 50 because of EMF.

Haven't you noticed that people used to die of old age but nowadays everybody dies of heart attack, cancer, Alzheimer etc.? that's because 40 years ago there weren't as many highly trained doctors and highly equipped hospitals.

@hazeret Then I suggest that you disconnect your house from the power lines, use candles instead. Get rid of all your electronic equipment, even battery powered ones. They all produce emf. We've been around emf for millions of years. The reason people didn't die of cancer 40 years ago is because we didn't have any way to detect it. People probably died of cancer but nobody knew about it.
