There is a new racial classification and that is MULTIRACIAL I choose too identify myself as that. I don't think that most Blacks understand where I am coming from because I was raised differently. To be honest with you Greenly100 when i saw your picture you just look plain black to me. I am african light skinned girl from west Africa and i don't have nappy hair and my parents are both light skinned also and i am still black and African and i am proud of that. Because at the end of the day when people see me that first thing they would say is "a black girl" they wouldn't say oh a mix girl just because a person look like they might be mixed doesn't really mean that they are.

Also, even mixes of other races have this issue...a friend of mine who is mainly Asian (but has a black and white mix) had issues when people told her she wasn't black and most of the biracial or mixed kids I went to school with only identify as black...however I think we should be free to be who we are regardless of color...it irks me to no end that because my skin is brown, people assume that I am going to be ghetto and when I start to speak, it is a surprise to them that I am articulate!!

It's kinda weird...in the south(well I'm from MD if you consider that south), even if a child looks clearly like another race and not black at all they are told to identify strictly with the black race...my mother's family was like this and they appear mixed or white in appearance...I think a lot of this has to do with the racism that was perpetuated by whites during that era...nowadays I do believe that people should have the freedom to fully represent who they are...
