Ummm neither Kidd nor Carter played in those Olympics. Know YOUR history. TMac and the other stars left AI and Duncan on their own with guys who had no business playing in those Olympics. Marbury, Odom, Jefferson and a young LeBron, Melo and DWade.
@procastoner8 Also, it wasn't an embarrassment. AI carried himself well. Coach Brown said nothing but good things about him. While others complained about playing time, he represented the country well. I just wish Vince, T-Mac, Jason, Jermaine O'Neal and the others would have joined him in Greece instead of the replacement players they used once the stars backed out.
@kingofrnb Nah i dont think they needed AI during the olympics because they dont need scorers. Id rather take kobe, melo, d-wade to take the two card instead of AI. for being a point guard deron williams, chris paul and kidd was a great mash ups because they can pass the ball and play defense as well. D rose is the upcoming ones that i think can replace kidd if he decides not to play 2012
@procastoner8 I was referring to the 2004 Olympics, not the 08 or 2012 Olympics. During the 04 Olympics, AI was definitely needed as he was the second best two guard in the league behind Kobe who couldn't play.
@kingofrnb it's not simply just putting the best player on the court. AI really tends to ruin teams with his unwillingness to be a team player. he takes too many ill advised shots, and constantly breaks down his teams defense by taking risks.
@supramano8 kind of agree to a certain point. Iverson got caught up in is own one one game sometimes but when your the best player on your team for 10 years you stick with that game, This USA team was not stacked like in 2008. In 2004 they had: a young wade, lebron, melo, Lamar odom, Stephon marbury all of whom should have not been on there. Iverson and Duncan were the only productive ones. Also Iverson became more of a team player in Denver: his % went up and assists(7.7) went up.
@90sbasketballrule yeah, he was the best player on his philadelphia team, but i still think if he had stuck to a more team based game he would have had at least 1 championship to his name. Maybe he just needed another superstar.
@90sbasketballrule and you stick with the one on one game only if it works. it clearly wasn't working in philly, and he just wasn't versatile enough to change his game
@supramano8 well playing one on one can last so long ask pre championship Jordan a one one game cant win a chamionship never! (even though Iverson won game 1 of the finals) he never had a deep, deep team. I mean who was his best option McKie, Snow, Matt Gieger? You were right he needed another superstar and a solid big man and it wasnt so much Iverson wasnt versatile to change his game its just i think he waited to after the peak of his career.
@90sbasketballrule well that's kind of my point. he waited too long to change his game. had he been more versatile and decided that he wanted to play more of a team game, he would have won something important.
@kingofrnb no AI was better than kobe from 96-06....there hasn't been a single year where kobe has been the best two guard with the execption of his 2k point season
@procastoner8 actually only AI played in 04. Jason Kidd and Vince carted backed out along with Jermaine O'Neal, T-Mac and others leaving AI and Tim Duncan with a bunch of Rookies and a lot less talented replacements.
@amunrahII It had alot to do with ego. They thought they could send any group out there and still squeak out the gold. But yeah, alot of superstars backed out. That team had no pure point guard either.

This is the team that SHOULD have played in the Olympics. They left AI and Tim Duncan out to dry.
