  • Ian was more aggressive in this video, always great to see from a kick ass band.

  • I Love The Cult :)

  • God, i love Ian's stage persona. What freaks me out is that im straight and i still feel this kind of amazement with his moves and expression.

  • billy duffy

  • this is just sick, is what this is. i saw them first in 88' can u imagine seeing them on this tour? god that had 2 be awesome!

  • Great song and performance ,this was an awesome album

  • Man...I remember MTV showing this concert way back when. (Yes youngins...MTV used to show music). Epic show. Love is a brilliant album.

  • Great intro.

  • The Cult put on one the greatest rock shows I've ever seen. The Love Tour Boston show. I've been in the "business" for decades and I stand by that statement. Bloody perfect!

  • So Beautifull Ian Here! Looks Like A Fucking Pretty LAdy! A True Rock Star!

  • @BlackSabbathory Sorry Bro, I hate Nirvana. The only thing good that ever came from them was The Foo Fighters. Love the name by the way.

  • me too saw them in nyc! wish they kept up this style... and less metal

  • Fuckin England they always born the best Rock/Rockstars and who do we Americans get? Fuckin' Nirvana, Lady Gaga, Usher. Pffff fuck this I'm gonna be a born again English man. :)

  • @TheLongLakeRockstar mmmmm led zep? LOL

  • @aerocock What? lol

  • @TheLongLakeRockstar

Hey, don't be like that, you still have (or at least used to have :P) the doors, jimi hendrix, most of psychedelic rock and all the blues guys from 50s-60s

  • @piskorz1 Yeah.....I do love me some Psychedelic Rock. :D

  • When rock bands played live and well...The Cult always kick ass live , still today.

  • @galas062 You are totally right, I saw them in Seattle last year and they blew me away.

  • epic...5 stars

  • Saw them last Sept at Salt air in Utah. Played this song exactly like 25 years earlier. House was rocking and dancing just like NYC

  • dude best band of the 80s

  • @cultation1 Arguably the most underrated band of the 80's. They were alternative before there was alternative.

  • Comment removed

  • the power of the astbury voice is incredible.

  • I love the rain, I love the cult, I love this song, I love the 80's, back to my childhood, rain .... eh eh eh eh here come the memories, Cult in my heart, I love this voice ....

  • The Ritz captured the greatness of the Cult anf GnR. It cast a spell on those groups.

  • OMG! I was suppose to go to this concert. Some girl named Annalisa asked me if I wanted to go and for some reason I declined! I'm such a damn dumb ass!

  • What a magnetic frontman, thanks for posting, I forgot how great these guys were, what year is this?

  • the cult, is the best, no me canso de decirlo, es lo massssssssssssssss

  • f* yeah!

  • I was totally there that night, dressed in black of course with one dangly cross earing probably a huge metal necklace, girly combat boots and a vintage dress.it's incredible there's footage of this. A flood of memories is going thru my head right now. Those were the days. No worries. Just hanging with my friends.

  • the cult and sisters of mercy 2 best groups by far in 1983 alice and she sells sanctuary loved the death cult and southern death cult too though dreamtime dreamtime I will have my dreamtime

  • @technomarty1 Yeah! I remember the Sisters of Mercy I used to play them on my college radio show. I wish I could remember more details. At one point I was hitting clubs 3 or 4 nights a week. Not sure how afforded it all. CBGB's was a favorite I even etched my name on the bathroom door. It was all about the music. Thank god we had it, because 80's pop music sucked!! I still change the station when "every breath you take" comes on.

  • this stuff makes me proud to have grown up in the 80's.. I kinda feel bad for some of the kids today - so hard for them to find good music - we had it everywhere.

  • I was there too that night and said holly sh**t when they came on!

  • Excellent arrangement of this song. Are there any mp3's of this gig?

Do you think that perhaps Duran Duran copied this band slightly?

  • nothing beats 1983 apart from the southern daeth cult + the death cult of course

  • KattCyanide: yes I would kill for that! its not just you...:)

  • Is it just me or would any other female fan of The Cult particularly Ian Astbury during 84-89, kill for an Ian Astbury look-alike? Where did all the beautiful long-haired slightly feminine but straight guys go?

The Cult is one of the best bands by far, I hate almost all of today's music.

  • @KattCyanide yeah he's def hot in a very interesting sorta way!

  • Seeing them Love Live in 3 days! Come on!

  • This is simply unreal

  • yes yes yes

  • I love this

  • Awesome song, I remember some strange kids at a party telling me to buy the love album in the mid 80's. I did and they became my favorite band. Saw them live opening for Metallica which was a tough gig. Wish I could have seen them at this stage of their career, awesome. Check out electric album too!! Great stuff.

  • I was fifteen, now I'm 40, but every time I hear thi song I want to jump and dance playing my guitar. Thanks to Ian and to the ones who made this video. Forever young! Moya

  • I loved The Cult and most of all I loved this song. I was fifteen, now I'm 40, but every time I hear this song I want to jump and dance and play my guitar. Thanks to Ian and to the ones who made this video. Thank you, forever young!

  • I was there...I got crushed against the rails and lost my shoe LOL!!!

  • love this....

  • CFFC!!!

  • this is a great performance. i still love "Love".

  • I can't believe I missed this show. I was too busy going to see Ozzy, Crue, Ratt, and Priest to go see a real show like The Cult, I guess.

Man, I was so stoned in the 80's!

  • versión mítica de los ochenta sobre todo en las grandes discos de Valencia

  • im with you mopar, Who cares what kind and how many drugs were involved...Ian and the Cult kick ass and im sure got plenty of ass !!

  • awesome loco, bacan!!!!!

  • Who really cares what kind of drugs they were doing. They are the Cult and they probably got a lot more ass than we ever would! They are awesome!

  • Hi Snorkels!

  • Im going back in time from 2009 to 1985 with the cult Love tour cant wait.

  • OMG I was at that show, up front of course! The Ritz was a GREAT venue!

  • Am I the only one that thinks Ian was flying high that night?

  • No you are not the only one. He is high as a kite...smack or coke and not the type you drink out of a bottle or a can!

  • he looks well wasted

  • I was there that night!

  • You were a lucky one!! The Cult has been part of my life since 85!!! Forever!!

  • What year, and what favorite clubs and movies were out?

  • LOL,skeptical?know what u mean...oh ya, ben der dundit, but if u were there...that musta ben somtin to c

  • @strgyn I bet you had a great experience! those were the 80s!

  • Billy Duffy has got to be one of the best and more original guitarists of all time..Luck to have seen them live in Gulfport MS '1989 along with Exodus and Metallica Headbanger's ball Tour '89. The Cult reminds us that take away the stupid bubble gum pop and stupid pop dance of that decade the alternative / underground and a lot of metal was actually terrific. The Cult was alternative rock before there was alternative rock - years ahead of their time.

  • That's not entirelly true, Bauhaus (also from england) started 78 so Cult wasn't the first, but that doesn't matter when you've written a song like this.

  • Have you seen that fool on the stage at 1:49 ? Have you seen Ian's face? LOL

  • That was Simply Red, trying to get some stage time. Ian should have drop kicked him.

  • Soz -am I being stupid here??...yep prolly!

  • Fantastic performance.

    Ian--- godlike

  • Billy Duffy is amazingly original.

  • nice pants ian. lawl.

    billy looks good here :)

  • i would have loved to have grown up during this time period. Bands these days just suck and have no original sound.

  • trying not to sound stupid, but didn't Matt Sorrum play with them?

  • Yeah, that was a few years after this though.

  • this is the absolute best version of this song ever caught on film. just fantastic! thanks for the post....

  • @Pinkpop Holland, 1986, with The Cure......aaaargh these times!

  • Ian was f***ing beautiful!!!!!!

  • ten kawalek zawsze dobrze brzmi.,.,.

  • could someone upload the hippodrome concert, please?

  • What do ya think of Ian's pants?

  • I'm fuckin' sad I didn't live in the 80s period.

  • The eighties were cool, I'm just glad some of the great eighties bands are still making music and touring: The Cult, The Cure, Maiden, The B.H. Surfers and Ministry especially.

  • i prefer the dark and electronic part of the 80s

  • Not your fault you were born late. Some us were blessed to have been around. It was good times.. HS and College in the 80's were a blast. Just a whole generating wanting to party!

  • Yep, those were good times.

  • This may be the Cult's best live performance ever. The sound is so tight. Just perfect. And to me the best cult line up with Ian, Billy, Jamie and Lez Warner on Drums. Brilliant!!!!

  • such a great song

  • this fucking rocks. ian is fun to watch.

  • I was there in concert in Chicago when this album and band came out. Come to my page Defender1963 for more old music. These guys were awesome!

  • you are very lucky to have seen them in their prime. i hadnt, and will always regret it- although i doubt they toured anywhere close to where i was living then. also, Alice in Chains-- will always regret not seeing THEM live. those two bands, only...metallica and the rolling stones i do like, overall, but i dont care about seeing those groups live. U2-- one of these tours, ill be there.

  • this song and group is one of the great groups of the 80's. It can not be denied. Its odd that they did not get more acclaim. I suspect alot of groups or people were just jeoluous, or what ever.

  • After 1985-1986, as Ians voice got worked over and the guitars got louder at shows, it was harder for Ian to approximate the sound of his studio vocals in concert. Great to see this older stuff. The sound of Ian's voice is 1/2 of the Cults great sound.

  • i loved the 80's subculture!

  • Billy Duffy looking very Billy Zoom like, two of the best hair-doos in the history of rock. CFFC

  • just love this guy and now i even love his trousers lol

  • Fucking Sick!

    The Houndman

  • A time in history I only wish I could have seen! Wow!

  • I did. : )

  • Awesome!!!!

  • the drummer had a itchy ear

  • It's cool to me to see Billy sing!!!

  • first time i saw them, he had a broken foot. there were about 400-500 people there. seeing them in NYC at that time must have been amazing!

  • billy duffy is the best guitar man rock of the history

  • Billy plays so well you'd think there was another guitarist on the stage he seems take the roles of both rhythm and lead guitarist.

  • that girl in the crowd at :15 looking at Ian is pretty

  • that's not a girl that's a man with an afro

  • my fav song by them

the cult bloody rock my socks off

  • Nothing nowadays to compare with this.

  • Your absolutely correct!

  • This Ritz place really brings out the great performances like these guys and Guns and Roses...What a great group!

  • Absolutely awesome live band - saw them last week and 23 years later they still rock, but they were in phenomenal form for this New York concert in '85. Really tight sound - and you've got to love Ian Astbury's antics on stage - what a showman!

  • just saw them last night in Boston better than ever!!!!

  • The Cult was a part of my life 25 years ago.I collect there records 300 vinyls, 200 cds. Fuck yeahhhh.... tiiimmmmme to remember..... HOLLOW MAN

  • And 23 years later they're still rocking! great band! Great performance! Astbury's pants...no so great...

  • Damn! The Cult is oh so GOOD! That goes without saying though, everyone here already knows that. Long Live The Cult!

  • WHAT A BAND.

  • Grat song man¡¡¡Viva Ian¡¡¡

  • yesssssssssssssssssssssss

  • Did they open for someone on this tour? Or did they headline it?

  • Fuck!!! This was good!!!

  • I couldn't have said it any better. This is an all time great band. Fuck they are great!

  • CFFC :)

  • who want to go back in 1980's by my time machine????

  • can't believe how great the sound was at the ritz

i hope this is released on dvd

  • I have seen The Cult 7 times. In 4 different states, but I was only 12 in '85 and missed the Love tour. I wish I had Ian's hair!

  • Those were the days......

Took me 20 years to hear this song live. When I heard the drum beat starting up, well, grinning like a big stupid idiot doesn't even begin to cover it!! lol

  • Very cool-Cult are a great band, they remind me of drunken, carefree high school days....

  • This is so much better than when they recycled this song and called it "Fire Woman" ...

  • so true

this is back when this band was absolutely on fire

  • Brings back great memories of being a teenager in the 80's. They were "way out" for the 80's fabby.

    Wendy Woo

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!Saw the LOVE tour and this is the best version of RAIN that I have ever seen!!!! After all these years....

  • I was at this show- fuking rock baby-

  • They are so fucking cool

  • I have seen The Cult live 15 times and this may be the best version I have ever seen of this particular song.

  • i love this version of rain, it`s the best one.

  • Thanks so much for posting this.. Im rocking out in my hotel room here in Bangkok before a night out to this... THE CULT ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST ! ! !! ! !

  • Which drummer of their's died? I remember this tour. Back then, they were considered close to U2 and Simple Minds. Just telling it like it was back then.

  • 1985......hbd oldie

  • my favorite part is the pony tail girl at the very begining bouncing to the drum beat...and of course the rest of the entire clip

  • There is no band with this kind of mystique these days.

  • this intro always gave me goose bumps it's so killer

  • Me too man, the live versions of Rain were always amazing!

  • This has about the best sound quality of any Cult video available. I wish the others were as loud and clear.

  • There's another video from the same concert on youtube (I think). I'm pretty sure it was Nirvana, do a search. I also saw a clean version of Love Removal Machine a while back, but yeah, not enough good live cult vids, though I'm sure they'll slowly start to pop up!.

  • You failed to mention who bought him the beer matthew

  • I've met Ian. He was playing with Holy Barbarians at The Room in Hull. We slammed the entire gig and there was only about 30-40 people there. So he came to have a beer with us. It was great, what a legend. Thanks for the post the quality of this is awesome.

  • Hey all you Cult fans,do you know when IANS birthday is?I do.

  • Wow, Nigel preston, Jamie Stewart, the original band and everything.. I didn't know these even existed, great sound and everything!

  • Close, but that is actually Les Warner on drums. This was recorded for MTV back when they played concerts. I have it on DVD. If you want footage of the original lineup you can find VHS copies of Dreamtime Live at the Lyceum: an excellent concert. There is also footage of the original lineup on youtube performing a few songs on an old british program called The Tube.

  • Legendary. This Has To Be One Of The Best Alternative Songs Ever!

  • I love the sun, but I love The Cult too!!!

    thanks for post

  • I love the rain, I love the cult!

    thanks for post
