I'm also interested in Rabbi Schneerson. Was he infact the Messiah and should we be sharing this fantastic news with the whole world ? In light of historical Messianic candidates, is there a probationary period so that we are not embarassed again. How do we go about endorsing his Messianic status?
When I was in Israel I listened to religious cholars argue endlessly on the correct way to hang a mazzuzah. I am an avowed athiest but more and more I can understand what Jesus was suppusedly on about. I am more interested in peoples actions than their thoughts.
I went to a lecture on Jewish philosophers a couple of weeks ago. The dynamic lecturer mentioned that with the recent popularity of Kabbalah there has been a renewed interest in the question of Gilgul. I wondered why after around 4000 years of codification and discourse there was any doubt either way that the Jewish religion believes in reincarnation, or not ?
I love tradition and culture but it's hard to see a bright future for civilization when so many people still believe in Gods and the supernatural. Where has it got us sofar, Stop praying and start enacting the true meaning of all religion. Love thy neighbour is the only commandment needed. All the rest will follow suit.
In order to be able to truly understand Judaism and Torah, one must realize that its conception of God and the world is distinct and unique. Love thy neighbour is indeed the only commandment needed, and that is the very goal and heart of Torah and many other religions. However, God has also given Jews an oral tradition passed down for thousands of years that delineates a structure for society and personal life whereby the world can actually achieve the loving ideal.
The societal values, rationalistic thought (albeit often applied to non-rational concepts), and the monotheistic/ panentheistic belief in the equality of every man and the great worth of human life, that Judaism has implanted into the world through societal influence, are the foundations of modern morality and science.
Love is more than just a feeling. Loving your neighbor implies moral obligations, social intimacy, and a sense of responsibility. Thats what Jewish law provides.
Before objecting, realize how large the corpus of Jewish law and spiritual tradition is, and how little of it you have learned. Look at Jewish history. It's astounding that Jews even exist today. They're clearly meant for something.
@Crateciferes they guys ain't Jewish they are hasids...hasidism is based on a type of witchcraft called chassidut which ain't very effective against germans.
