  • One of the greatest voices ever, she's gone but definitely not forgotten! R.I.P Minnie

  • I had no idea that was her daughter!

  • Listen to this song while cleaning up your house with a scarf on your head and nothing, but

A undershirt and jeans, you will be thinking of good times. My Views and opinions do not

Reflect anyone on here or the actual person that uploaded this song, so please don't get all

Offended and twisted and take it as offensive.

  • This song makes me think of my first love!!

  • Oh Minnie, thank you for being Our Angel

  • My first love song when I was twelve...lol..in my forties now and my first love still sends me this on my phone...;)

  • In 1977, she became spokesman for the American Cancer Society. In 1978, Riperton also received the American Cancer Society's Courage Award which was presented to her at the White House by President Jimmy Carter. She died at age 31 on July 12, 1979. This song Back Down Memory Lane was sung weeks before she died. RIP Minnie. We Love You.

  • In January 1976 Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy.[2] By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had metastasized and she was given about six months to live. Despite the grim prognosis, she continued recording and touring. Riperton was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not disclose that she was terminally ill.

  • One of the few R&B Singers of her time that was able to hit 4 Octaves when she sung. She was very gifted may she rest in Peace and her songs live on thru us.

  • This is such an amazing song. Of course, I would have the odd question of the day or comment. I wonder how many takes did it take her to record this song. Now that I think about it. Even if it took 12 takes, that is still amazing to hit that high note. Just remarkable and lyrically off da chain.... Nice post....

  • Love this song, it was so sad when and how she died!!!

  • why would you die rest in peace or rip

  • I remember when my mom used to play this song when I was a teenager in the 90's

  • The legendary Miss Minnie Riperton brought us great music that we can still listen to. She was taken from us to early. I remember my mom playing the mess out of this song and I would be cleaning up the house on Saturday rockin' this. Bring back good music that meant something with a sweet melody. Love Me Some Minnie!

  • @educatorpoet|She also brought 'us' Maya Rudolph who is too darn funny.

  • One of the coolest stories...this lady was all that.

  • A legend gone before time this is my cut!!!!!A Fan 4 Life From East St. Louis!!!!!

  • I love this woman...I miss the good old days where music like this had so much meaning that you could feel deep down in your soul...Thanks minnie..Rest in peace love....

  • But, I must compliment the woman who is bringing such good music and beautiful voice, miss Minnie Riperton, may you rest in peace.

  • Oh yeah, this one really reminds me of my late mother... Oooh wee, the hurt and the pain and how it use to be when she was hear... so much love and I give anything to have her here again. I named my second child for her... Helen Celeste Norwood is pure love!

  • One of my all-time favorites,

  • Beautiful song, from a great singer.

  • just listen to this voice - one of my favorite song - RIP you were one of the greatest back in the 70's.........

  • Simply Beautiful.. :)

  • Awesome! I remember the day she died. I went to North Carolina to visit my Grandparents and when I got to my Aunts house it was on the news.

  • reminds me of my teens, she was great...

  • Minnie Riperton was an AMAZING singer.....and one heck of a lovely,

    sweet lady!

  • i seriously have to believe the 24 people that hit the dislike button did it by mistake.

  • why so much hate Mariah has an amazing voice. So did Minnie. Look at it this way its been over 30 years and we only have 2 know voices like that. Just enjoy it while its here

  • @aclass22 Before Mariah there was Minnie and Denise Williams, Mariah is good, but they were on a different level.

  • @aclass22 That's not true, there are others that can hit high notes as well, Mariah Scary is mainstream. Don't forget about Rachelle Ferrell, Shanice, etc I think Adina Howard can hit high notes as well...

  • you must be young dumb and full of shit you lost ya dame mind youngsta this grown folk music eat a dick

  • @timvera2005 dont entertain the idiocy. Just flag the hate and enjoy the misic.

  • love this song!!!

  • I dont know what to say but WOW

  • i love her but her unsung episode was too sad <3

  • Cute song. Beautiful voice. I know she is singing with the angels in heaven and they are loving her voice. :-) Sad that she died so young.

  • Y does it look like shes alwqys wearing pajamas

  • miss u minnie, can't wait o hear you in heaven

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • Our ancestors made the Pyramids and we make beautiful Music. Now if you can Imagine them both together with our people dwelling amongst it then you may have a small glimpse of our true Home where our "departed" loved ones are waiting for us.

  • Beautiful Music...............

  • Minnie Riperton had a voice that can never be replaced by anyone but the Angel in heaven that she is now.I loved her!

  • 2:04- 2:28 was sampled off The Game and Diddy's "Heartbreak Hotel"

  • @dorababyboy you mean they sampled...off this.

  • @Caveman1006 breaks my heart but yes they did!

  • @dorababyboy I feel what you saying bout breaking ya heart

  • @Caveman1006 Anyway did you hear that song Heartbreak Hotel by The Game & Diddy I like the beat but it can't touch the original!

  • @dorababyboy Naw imma listen to it though

  • @dorababyboy lmao song aint too bad though.

  • @Caveman1006 yep they sampled that part!

  • without a doubt one of the best female vocalist of all time.....

  • tear jerker....all I can say.....

  • Just watched her unsung on tvone and she was an amazing young woman..It's so sad that some of the best artist to ever live always seem to pass away at a young age..Her music will live on forever tho...RIP minnie....

  • Classic...

  • this song puts me in a time i wish could go back to. damn i miss these days!

  • love her voice, love the lyrics,

    RIP Minnie....

  • She actually had a 5+ Octave range. She was the FIRST ever to do the Whistle Voice professionally...before Mariah Carey came on the scene. Had she lived, who knows how huge she would've been...

  • @IMACConference She had a 5 1/2 octave range.

  • I didn't know her daughter is Maya Rudolph from SNL and Bridesmaids!

  • She Had a "FOUR" Octave Range!!!!!!!

    Well Never See That Again.

    RIP Minnie.......gone so Young.

  • @desert3347 She had a 5 1/2 octave range.

  • @Lenee320 Minni was Simply Unbelieveable....damm 5 1/2.............Now days, musical artists just "warrable".

  • This lady was blessed with one of the most beautiful voices to ever sing a note.

  • Imma need some of y'all to pray for the music of my generation. It's making us deaf and blind to quality and talent. I'm so glad I was raised on the 20th century music. It's so different now. If I hear one more song saying "back dat ass up", I will scream, cry and throw the computer across the room

  • @31makiahkiah OMG yessssss!! Im in my twenties and i have such a problem trying to listen to music meant for my age group....i find a song or two here and there....but it aint nothing like the old school....

Idk...maybe i'll say that about todays music in the future, when the music industry gets taken over by musically deficit robots lol....if it hasnt been taken over already lol

  • @TheQuietStorm25 Right, it's really upsetting that i have to settle because nobody knows quality anymore. As if the type of music didnt suck (this whole hip hop thing has not progressed since 2005), there is poor execution and lack of talent. Ive noticed that there are a couple of new people coming out with some wayyy better music like j. cole (Not most of his mainstream but mixtapes) and miguel and Frank Ocean. But no one can really match the music of the 1900's.

  • @TheQuietStorm25 LOL

OMG Musically Deficit ROBOTS? I hope NOT!! I totally agree with you...

  • Who dislikes this? How do you dislike this? I really have no clue what basis someone would have for not liking this.

  • love this song

  • GROWN FOLK MUSIC..THATS ALL

  • Even though I was born in 1989, grew up in the 2000s, and really know nothing about the 70s, I still somehow feel like I know this woman and that I knew her in a past life.

  • Won't get upset from the 23 dislikes. That only means that there are those that don't know the real meaning to music, lyrics, etc. They're stuck in the matrix of what music is "supposed" to sound like. This is will forever be my favorite song and since my little sister died of breast cancer as Minnie...it holds special to me even more so!!

  • i stumbled on this photograph..... it kinda made me laugh......

  • I can't believe this has 23 dislikes...they just don't know good music....music that hits you deep in your soul

  • Gone to soooon!! She had an angelic voice. Thank you for the music.

  • One of the sadest passings. Voice like an angel. Thank God I can still listen to her music. <3

  • I thank God for Minnie Riperton who will always be on my Memory Lane. I trust that nothing is more real in this universe than the love and the power of God. Minnie never left us as long as she lives in our hearts and memories. Peace, be still.

  • im gonna convince myself the people who disliked this song hit the wrong button by mistake. only possible explanation.

  • To my knowledge there are only 4 singers in the soul/pop culture who can hit a super high range , Denise Williams, Minnie Riperton,Shanice Wilson and Mariah Carey. I don't know who's range is highest, but it seems every generation gets at least one singer who can do that. Nice.

  • You 23 people I just don't know what to say for you.Tomorrow please go to your family doctor and get your hearing check.Minnie forgive them for what they can't hear.RIP BABY

  • @theman11405 They're simply "haters" and there is really no cure for that unless they learn to love themselves and realize that we ALL have special talents and should not be jealous of the talents of others :)

  • @theman11405 Some people don't know creativity when it's oriented from real life and put into music...pray 4 the foolz!!!!!!!!

  • @theman11405 Ahh, Come on. Everyone is entitled to they opinion. Just because you like something, doesnt mean everyone should like it.

  • @theman11405 I HEAR YOU... IT's 24 now.... SHE WAS A GREAT SINGER!!

My Aunt & Uncle saw her at the Circle Star Theatre in San Carlos Ca MANY years ago

    R I P Minnie Ripperton.

  • @theman11405 24 Retards now,LOVE YOU MINNIE

  • @theman11405 All 24 people are mariah envious cunts who can't stand to see that Minnie is the best ever.

  • As a kid listening to her sing this, I was so heartbroken. Loved to lay on the floor of my fathers music room with her on the record player. Knowing that she was dying make this song hard not to get choked up. Her voice was so rich. People who have ugly things to say about this woman have a problem. She died prematurely from an illness and all you can talk about a crack pipe, really?

  • wow :-)

  • one day i"ll see you mom until then i'll keeeeeep! going down memory lane your baby and only girl Diane .

  • wonderful

  • BEAUTIFUL VOICE....NEVER BE ANOTHER...#RIP..PERFECT ANGEL

  • *tears* listening to this

  • I REMEBBER THE DAY SHE DIED AND IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY. SHE DIED ON JULY 20,1979. SHE HAD A VOICE THAT WAS GIFT FROM GOD AND HE BROUGHT HIS ANGEL HOME. I AM SO PROUD OF DAUGHTER. THIS SONG PLAY ALL DAY IN RADIO WHEN SHE PASS AWAY .

  • @MUSICLADY1963 I had a similar experience, my bday is July 19th, I was 7 at the time. I loved her music even then, and I was saddened by her death and I cried all day. Then I thought I was gonna die because I was a Cancer and she died from cancer, LOL. My Nana had to explain the difference to me.

  • i never get tired of her voice or this song

  • I discovered Minnie during my first year of college...1974...i remember the album cover well...she was wearing overalls...women who wear overalls are cool..

  • R.I.P MINNIE... LOVE YA.

  • High notes like that belong in Guinness World Book of Records

  • @lomejorpapi So true...i don't think i've heard anyone since minnie with that kind of range

  • @cbrowne551 Mariah Carey tries to sing like Minnie but I too have not heard anyone that could hit those notes w/such a range..what a blessing it was to hear her..so sad she left us way too soon, but she's at peace now, at rest singing w/the angels in heaven, in God's Holy Court, in God's Holy Mountain..May she now finally rest in peace..

  • Truly A Great Voice, No One Like Her TODAY, some have came close, but not close enough

It's so hard to listen to without thinking about that but its such a beautiful classic song that I can't stop listening. Love this. And guys let's not even focus on the misguided souls who disliked this...clearly EVERYONE can't know good music.
