  • Somehow I don't feel that it counts as a genuine *SPEEDRUN* if you aren't clearing the level as fast as possible, you actually spent a lot of time hitting the timestop switches instead. Ignoring loading times and the short real-time cutscenes, this is a 5 minutes run of the whole stage, when probably you could beat it in under 3 minutes if genuinely sped-through. IMO it'd be more interesting to see a genuine speedrun of this stage, without *hours* of hitting switches along the way! Go for it man

  • Seeing as time switches are the whole point of the stage...

    Also, I did attempt a realtime speedrun (on mission 4 so that even segmenting isn't an issue) and got 4:06.52 if you want to look for that one. Under 3:00 for that would be nonsense.

  • @SadisticMystic Not really nonsense, I did say ignoring not only the loading times but also the real-time cutscenes, but fine, probably I was exaggerating and am wrong. I shall watch.

  • Hey SM! They've done a TAS of this level (m1) but it doesn't even come close to this, they weren't aware of all the possible tricks. You probably spent a lot of years finding shortcuts and improving this level, didn't you?

    Also: if you know that Cannon's core m1 is identical to m3, Why don't you claim 1:09:95 as your m1 record in TSC?

  • For the same reason that you can't take your best Sand Ocean mission time and replicate it four times.

    Unless the mission goals are identical, such that any set of input that completes the more stringent one also completes the other, and not just "informally" identical so that all the key steps from a competition perspective are the same, the resulting stats can't be. (This lets you submit a mission 4 to its 1 chart, but not interchange the 1 and the 3 here since they have different endpoints.)

  • my i ask how you perform the hover jump so easily? (when you automaticly hover when you jump, to gain height. i can do this, but i thought it was just my controller playing up. oh, and since when does eggman say "hup!" as well as "yop!" when he jumps? he only says yop 4 me..??

  • 1. Because there are two enemies behind the wall that I can take out from there to save time later on, but the farther of those enemies is too far back to lock onto from the platform itself, so I have to go a bit beyond it.

    3. The last door is keyed to the two Chaos enemies; the three Hunters in the ceiling aren't required for anything, so I just take them out for lulz (they drop from the ceiling if you go there when time isn't stopped).

  • you know what's funny, I have NEVER beaten mission 3 the "normal" way because I saw the old m3 record video and beat the level without having all the mystic melodies!

    time? Can you only do it in Rouge and Sonic's parts?

  • for sonics part:

    at the second time stopper, walk into it,then face the direction that you need to go and spin dash through the time stopper, that'll do it

    dont do that for any other mission than mission 3 though, for some reason sonic drowns later if you do.

  • You can do it from the first time switch, just like in this video.

    The only way Sonic drowns at the slide drop-off is if you're not going fast enough at that point. It's easily possible to incorporate a permanent stop down to the goal ring.

  • Just walk into the corner there and keep at it until you fall through the floor. It really is that easy!

  • If only the Missions 1, 4 and 5 gave ranks based on time, it would make my life much easier :(

  • As long as you know how to do the whistle cancel, this shouldn't even be an issue, at least on 1 and 4. I only recall one place to go off for significant points without losing any time in 5, so you either need to make the most of that one spot without botching, or get enough points from the other, smaller spots to make up the difference.

  • Whats the whistle cancel?

  • Lock onto a bunch of stuff, then in rapid succession, release B, press Y, and press B again. If you're fast enough this will cause you to whistle in lieu of any shots being fired, and won't destroy the enemies, but you still get the bonus points for the lock-on. Then just repeat as long as you're willing or able.

  • 7:30. Take the mission 4 target, and add some more time they expect you so spend wandering around to the mystic shrines.

  • And you were nearly 6 and a half minutes faster! That's really showing the game up, huh? There should really be an S-rank.

  • To: mlhownz. To stop time you have to be far away from what time stop you touched. For instance, Sonic's first time stop can stop time permanently by spin dashing from one end to the other end.

  • Is the infinite timestop only in DC, or can you do it on the Gamecube as well?

  • There's nothing in this level that's system-exclusive, apart from some GC-only rings that are of no consequence in a run like this.

  • We don't need TAS for this game, as long as we have you. Yet still, correct me if I'm wrong, but... You can use Action Replay to slow the game down to half it's speed, right? It's not FrameSkip and Save States, but it is something. Then, after recording the slow game, one can use Windows Movie Maker or a similar tool to speed the video x2, making it show at 60 FPS again. Sure, it wouldn't be as simple as that...
