i KNOW it was a rider error. however he is very well trained, and knows better than to rear. he's expressed discomfort in other ways than rearing before which is why this was so unexpected. he's never done it before and has yet to do it again. we switched the bit, i loosened from his mouth, and tried to be more clear with my leg aids. we've had no problems since.
wear a helmet...believe my horse was pretty much bombproof and i wasnt wearing a helmet he spooked and freaked outt..i fell off and got a concussion! Now I ALWAYSS wear a helmet no matter what...the save lives so to all u people saying that she doesnt have to wear a helmet...she should be and u should be tooo!!!!!!!!! MAKE GOOOD CHOICES!
@MegzOB421 it doesnt make snese to tell someone to wear a helmet. if they dont want to wear one thats the risk they take and im sure their aware of the risk. not really anything you can do
u dont wanna wear a helmet dont he reared cause most horses do !!!duh great staying on you have a seat that is remarcable good job :):):) and she isnt pulling on his mouth
Wow! That was stunning! For all the people who keep sayin.. you shud be wearin a hat.. She dont have to.. if she feels safe and trusts her horse then she can.. if she thinks shes gunna get thrown off all the time i think she would put a hat onn!.. Butt Wow that was a gorgus horse and a gorgus rear! x
I havent worn a helmet since I was 14 and I turned out okay, LOL-- barrel racers dont wear helmets.
I think your horse may need some time with a training fork or a german martingale-- that large muscle under his neck means he's not flexing correctly-- all my barrel horses and TWHs have that-- but I have them carry their heads very high (with nose parrallel to the ground).
You obviously want him collected-- he needs a better headset and you need some lighter hands
dont pull on the reins so much that will make him rear more. i no i probley sound like an moany idiot but also get a riding hat! if you fall off your riding hat can save your life. well done for keeping on though!
Dont Take No Notice Of Them You No Your Horse And they dont So How Do They no If Your Neins Were To Loose He May Not Like them tight and You Feal Safe On Him So You Dont Have To Wear A Hat Your Horse Is Beutifally Trained and im Glad You Said In That Clip You Think Its The Bit And Im Glad You Stresed That You Have Changed It :L
Maybe if you would use your legs, sit back, and stop pumping your waist when you ask him for forward motion, and get out of his mouth, not only would your horse behave a bit better, but you would ride better, and look better doing it.
he reared becoz she used too much leg! that always happens with me and my tb gelding! If i use too much leg he starts bunny hopping and does lil bucks! She actually has a really nice hand position bcoz he dropped his head really nicely! clearly shes riding english with western saddle!
Bad pony! I love how everyone blames you... sorry guys. The horse is evading bit pressure, bad pony. He probably wants to be bitted up and given a lesson on giving to bit pressure, but thats me.
i KNOW it was a rider error. however he is very well trained, and knows better than to rear. he's expressed discomfort in other ways than rearing before which is why this was so unexpected. he's never done it before and has yet to do it again. we switched the bit, i loosened from his mouth, and tried to be more clear with my leg aids. we've had no problems since.
you need to make him complete his stop such as the last one on the video he went from a lope to a trot to a walk and you did not even make hime compleete the stop....very pretty though and you sat nicly
your in his mouth constantly . thats why he reared. when you stoped him thier was no change in pressure and no change in pressure when you wanted him to go he was confused
Would it be possible to use this video in a horse falls and mishaps video im making? You and your pony will be given credit (: I know you didnt fall but its a mishap (: x
hmm...you have a western saddle on but do you ride some english too? your horse is a nice mover but is it possibal your reins are slightly tight? never the less, way to handle =)
post a vid on her and you will get peoples opinion. fact is many have noted the harsh use of the curb and confusion of the horse, hence a rear. gorgeous horse but pretty obvious why it happened ;)
I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I think that the reason the horse was rearing was because of his bit, and your reins.
I think the Bit is to harsh for him, and your reins are to tight. I also think that you confused him because you kicked him while your reins were tight, then punnished him for rearing. If you made him rear then thats fine but you acted like you didn't and punnished him for the command given (which he thaught was rearing). As others do I reccoment a snaffle bit.
Your cues aren't very clear. In fact they aren't clear at all. If you wanted a canter all along he was clearly saying he needed more rein. Opening his mouth and tossing his head. He picked up the canter many times but with your shank bit being balanced on and pulled back he got confused. Don't jerk on him because YOU can't ride. This is a western horse stop trying to force the ramener and let him stretch out. If you want collected switch bits take and everything you're doing period.
No, she was asking him to walk on after the rein back, if she was asking him to canter, she would be trotting, then she would have to slide her outside leg back, while keeping her inside leg on the girth and then ask for canter, unless she was doing a walk-to-canter transition, but with all that kicking I doubt she would do it!!
i do believe she was asking for a quick trot and then a transition to canter, if you watch the start she does the exact same thing....to the ride: a bit of a communication problem there but no ones perfect. I can see you horse has a lovely mouth and just needs a bit of give as you have probably worked out:P:P
He is a STUNNING horse!! One thing I will say though, try not to move about so much when you ask him to walk on, he looks like a very sensitive horse.H e is such a beauty though!!

Maybe if you want that kind of contact, you should try something less harsh, like a snaffle... or if you want to ride in a curb try a looser rein.
It IS your horse tho, so you have to take my advice, but i do think you should do that. Cute horse=]

Maybe thats what she always wears at a barn. you never know lol. I always riding in my english outfit when riding western.
pleatec13 3 years ago
I agree, I don't mean to say this in a nasty way, but you were kind of rough with him.
Reins were really tight, and although wyou were pretty relaxed, that's not whats communicated to the horse.
They can feel a fly land on them, no need for the tight reins and harsh kicks.
BEAUTIFUL horse though :)

Shorten your reins and give him some more slack... he just seemed tense and expecting a bad outcome, is all!
shiiuza 3 years ago
You're not giving him any release and with that bit, he'll need quite a bit of it.
He's a cute horse, but I do believe it was rider error.

absolutely beautiful horse. Id agree though shorten ur reigns on him, you snatch his mouth. Try not to kick, just squeeze. Well sat though very nice
equineangel91 3 years ago
is he a quarter horse?
iTsJoEyFoShIzZlE 3 years ago
Eesh. Why such a tight rein in a curb? Swith him to a snaffle if you want that kind of contact. o.o
Ratasimia 3 years ago
Try using a nicer bit, it seems like the one you are using is too harsh for his mouth. He might perform better with a thick hollow weight snaffle.
rabidnate 3 years ago
reins are way to tight for a horse with a mouth like that

yeh you kinda shorten your reins and kicked-NOT a good idea. GIVE with your hands and ask him forward. he got really confused.

For the person below me. She isnt asking him to walk on she is asking him to canter. i can tell by her movements.
