Just cute! i love malamute's! :) Ppl It's not a husky Malamutes can look like that to i had one that looked just like that black one but he pasted away... :( Cute dog's! :)
What sweet Mals. The big one looks like my old Mal from 5 years ago. He was the best. I love the malamute vocalization. Our new dog is Mal/golden retriever an he does te same thing with the voice -3
Huskys ears are closer together, where as Malamutes are farther apart. Malamutes have MUCH more muscle and their coat is thicker. I know you said besides size difference, but thats a main difference between the two. Malamutes heads are much lager...I guess, over all, malamutes are larger. Also, malamutes eyes are always brown. However, Huskys can also have brown eyes. Ive never seen it though.
If you see them (in person) there is an apparent difference.
Just out of curiousity, how would you compare a malamute with a husky (besides size differences)? They seem to look alike and share similar traits, but I'd be curious to see where they differ.
@ryansjones There's also the feet difference. Malamutes tend to have these bear like paws that are useful to cover long distances of snow without sinking into the snow.
I am so aggrivated with all of these ignorant people that watch these ALASKAN MALAMUTE videos and say that the dog is a Husky. The owner of the dog would know what kind of dog it is. Also, when Malamutes are in their awkward "teenage" years, they are lanky and do somewhat resemble a Husky if they're black.
To all of you that assume the dog on the bed is a Husky simply because of he/she's coloring...you need to do some serious research. Malamutes come in MANY different colors.
When you stare on the beginning of the video, black dog seems like husky but at the next parts of video, we can make sure that it is an alaskan malamute. So it is not an adult dog and it is very normal to confuse it with Siberian Husky. Actually tone of the colour of dog is also prove it that it is an Alaskan Malamute, except the face anatomy of it...
My step dad had an AM before my mom married him. After they got married he would sleep outside my bedroom door and not let anyone in. He was very protective of me. They are very smart and very kind dogs. We lived out in the country so he would howl at the cyotes and they returned the favor. He was caught sitting with a cyote in the back yard one day when we got home, it was purely a majestic sight to see.
Gorgeous gorgeous!!! I always wanted two AM's, bu after having one, I realized AM's are a handful. They do require lots of attention. I don't have any children so I have alot of time to devote to mine. He dug up our yard unmercifully the first few years, chewed furniture and I swear, never rested!..lol. But I wouldn't trade him for anything!
How old is the bigger one, is it male or female. How long do malamutes last before they start getting hip displacia, how much exersize do you give them and it what form ?? How often do you have to comb him ??? I'm thinking of getting one
@ryansjones yeah golden's shed a lot so there will be a lot of hair when you brush them but the upside is golden's are very smart and probably the best family dog in my opinion. well my favorite breed is the malamute because of their gentleness.
im planing to get1, but everyone says they are hard to maintain, they'll dig holes in my backyard nd their hair falls alot ... nd specially i never had a pet.. is that tru???
malamute can be very challenging. they are very intelligent and need to be challenged and their attention needs to be kept so they don't get restless and mischievous. our girl is wonderful with people and children, an excellent family dog. they do dig, but there are ways to discourage them from it, don't let that alone keep you from getting one!!
well just because you never had a pet doesn't mean you can't handle them. yeah malamutes are high maintenance dogs but if you put your time and effort to take care of them then that would be great. if you want a malamute you have to have patience in training them 'cause they tend to be dominant. hope this helps.
I'm a veterinarian and a breeder and I can tell you for a fact that the black dog in this video is a Siberian Husky. The dark, uniform color of the coat and the dark lines on the face between the eyes are a dead giveaway. Don't feel bad. Many people confuse the two breeds.
@jnhale1 I am not trying to be rude in any way, but this dog is an AKC registered Alaskan Malmute. The colors are a non-factor in distinguishing a Malamute from a Husky. One must look at the feet, ears, build, etc., rather than focusing on color alone. It's well known that Malamutes come in a wide array of colors from black, brown, tan, even red. Please make no assumptions by watching a video on YouTube, we all know what assuming means.
@rw566019 You are right plus if you look at the dogs eyes you see they are brown and a husky almost always has blue eyes plus the feet are alot bigger i have seen many malamutes that have the black markings and looks alot like a husky but a malamutes has many colours plus husky'skave a thinner coat srry if i have bad grams i am dutch i have studied the malamute very long because i wan't two of them ow and you have two beautifull dogs ^^
@rw566019 I hate when people confuse siberians with malamutes. "look, it's a husky, he is black and white" or "this is not a siberian because they have blue eyes and this one doesn't". I even heard people saying that they have champion malamutes with blue eyes. It's very sad that people can't see beyond the blue eyes and the two colored fur.
@jnhale1 if you check the ears you will find that the malamute's ears are set further apart.... i have 2 malamutes and both have very different colourings but both breeds are wonderfull :)
@jnhale1 The paws, thick ears and stop at the end of the muzzle all say malamute to me, the only bit that I have not seen in a Malamute is the white strip over his head going to the top, I have only seen that in Sibs.
@jnhale1 don't feel bad because yourself has confused the breeds, as you can see, malamutes have thicker legs, and wider paws, as opposed to huskies with a longer and skinnier leg with a smaller paw and another dead giveaway that this is a malamute is that huskies have blue eyes and malamutes don't have blue eyes, this dog does not have blue eyes.
@Reebes100 don't get mad on me or something, i'm don't want to be rude... It's not mandatory for huskyies to have blue eyes. It's common but not mandatory. They can also have brown eyes, different colour eyes (one blue & one brown and other combinations) or any other colour.
sometimes i ask to my self... why him?? BUDKIN MY FAVOURIT DOG... he was a malamute ....... a big male wo gave his life to put tears in my eyes..... he was every thing to me and now i only must say RIP.... take good care of that one .... he is one great dog..... CHEERS
...or in other words, what made you decide on investing in a puppy malamute after owning an adult (Assuming you've had the older pup since puppy hood)? I don't know what I'll do once my mika passes and I will not own another breed.
they are both so beautiful. I have a short haired like your pup, but I'm definitely getting a long haired like your elder pup the next time around. My girl is 8, still with a lot of energy, and strongly considering a pup. What made you decide to get this fine young pooch?

Their deep voice carries a LONG way and the mournful howling will have your neighbors calling the cops to report the nuisance -- or quietly letting your Alaskan Malamute out of his yard so he'll wander away.
Young Alaskan Malamutes (up to about two years old) can be bulls in a china shop. When they romp and jump, they do so with great vigor, and things can go flying, including people.
Cute dogs they look like huskies, and interesting this is The Wasignton Huskies real dog mascot is a Alaskan Malamute despite looking like a husky, and their name being Huskies.
That is interesting, a lot of people confuse malamutes with huskies although there are many differences between them such as the color of their size or their size in general.
hiya, yes i got my malamute on the 25th April! A little girl named Nomie, shes 9 weeks now and already getting so big! lol i will be uploading some videos soon! (:
Mika is almost 9 and I'm starting to think a puppy would be a wonderful addition. Mika is my heart and soul but I know that the time for a new inevitable addition is coming very soon.
I can't tell you how many memories this video brings back of my late husky, Nikki and late shepherd, Mike. It's great to see dogs being taken care of. Nikki was 16 and Mike died at 18. Take care of these guys.
does anyone know where i can get a mal? my fiance and i have been looking for one, but the only places we have found are kind of far away and we don't want the puppy to go thru the tramas of flying. We live in mass. So if any one knows any places somewhat nearby, that would be great thanx.
u're lil girl is adorable by the way, and i just wanna cuddle with the big guy.
I have a malamute named Dakota Spirit. He's been no problem at all. He weighs 131 lbs the last time we were at the vet. The vet. was amazed. He isn't overweight at all cause we go running every night. I have three acres and he loves it.
I lived in Mass. for a few years. I had a malamute there in Boston for a few years since he was a pup. Heat was never a problem, he just shed like crazy. Although with their personalities, it's hard to raise them in apartment, they need a lot of running and playing time. And if they don;t get it, they will let you know!
It's wonderful to hear about a working group dog who gets the proper amount of exercise. So many people get a certain breed cuz "it's pretty" or looks like a wolf and then just stick in a small backyard and hardly ever interact with it, and then wonder about behavioral problems. So, kudos to you and your dog!
Thank you. Since then I've actually moved to a house with an enormous yard in the country. I have never seen him happier! He survived the cities of Boston and then New York, but now my man is in the country enjoying the hell out of life. I have to admit that raising him was HARD WORK, but they return just as much love and they let you know their appreciation. Malamutes really are one of the finest breeds around. I swear he lets me know everyday how much fun he's having! :)
I think they can have blue eyes but its not as common...my friend has one that has 1 blue eye and 1 blue/brown eye and the vet said it was an alaskan malaute.
That's a possibility, but it's not a purebred malamute, it must have had husky somewhere in its' lineage. A blue eye is always a disqualification when it comes to malamutes.....but the way i see it, who cares? i don't like dog shows, I like dogs, and if it's a great dog, then great!
The way I see it, the bigger the better.....as long as it's healthy big! My girl, the black and white one, is about a year and two months now weighs just over 100 lbs...which is rather small for a lot of mals, but she's still a huge dog!
Malamutes have a bear or wolf look while Huskies have a more fox appearance. Mals will never have blue eyes like a Husky. Mals are born to pull while Huskies are born to race. Mals are stronger (hence pulling, "king of the working dogs"), less hyper, larger, and have more patience than Huskies. I want one so I did a lil research hehe =]
I've never saw a site that says what the difference is between a husky and a malamute. I'm guessing that 1 difference is that malamutes have longer hair.
They are definitely not noisy dogs. MUCH unlike huskys, you will rarely hear a malamute bark, rather they will howl, roo, and talk to you. It's only when talking to you or someone else, or with each other. They won't sit and bark at dogs that walk past your ho use or squirrels out in the yard. But they WILL chase them!! They're great dogs, get one!!
Check that on Huskies being loud - huskies don't bark unless they are really agitated. The most you will get out of them is a miserable "woof" sound when they're dissatisfied. They will howl some but their main vocalization is a complainy groan. My two huskies follow what you said about your malamutes.
Well, we got the youngest at three months, and started immediately. I think it's reasonable to start them as soon as they are weaned from their mother. It wasn't too hard, dogs in general dislike being in their own waste. She had a few accidents, but caught onto the whole "going outside" thing quickly. Her biggest pitfalls now are chewing on wooden furniture and digging, both of which are malamute traits.....and she's not even so bad with them. You'll be fine, and so will your puppy!!!
I am about to get an Alaskan Malamute puppy and I live in Long Island, NY. I just wanted to know if NY's climate is good for raising a mal or if the summers get too hot.
Well, we are in PA where the summers can be pretty hot. As long as you don't keep them out all the time, they'll be fine. Lot's of water and some AC to give them when they want to come inside is all they need in the summer. A Long Island summer will be fine!
I have always wanted one of these dogs. I think they are beautiful but am worried how they would be with our rescue cats, potbelly pigs and two lab mixes? Hubby wants a wolf but this is as close as I would go. How are they with other pets? Beautiful dogs!
they are very sweet dogs, very dominant though. i mean, the older one is dominant, the littler one is just a puppy, but she's very sweet and gentle with all animals. they are VERY MUCH chasers, but not so much killers, especially if you bring one into a house thats already inhabited with pets, it won't act so dominant. get one, you should be fine, especially if the dog is a puppy when you bring it home, it will grow up thinking the other animals are its brothers and sisters...
I've got an Alaskan Malamute named Makyie, he's about 4 months old and looks EXACTLY like your little girl, Rajah. he has more of Briar's color in the front but is Black on the end like Rajah, and the behaviour is a carbo copy too. Stubborn, but great fun loving dogs.
Well, they can go for different prices. We got Rajah when she was three months old, so we got a great deal at $200, because she needed a home. They had been asking between 1000 and 1200 for them when they first became available. Thanks so much for your comments!!
Just cute! i love malamute's! :) Ppl It's not a husky Malamutes can look like that to i had one that looked just like that black one but he pasted away... :( Cute dog's! :)

I have three acres and he loves it.

do they hate heat extreamly? like august and stuff i live in mass and it gets hot in summer
kigger622 4 years ago
I lived in Mass. for a few years. I had a malamute there in Boston for a few years since he was a pup. Heat was never a problem, he just shed like crazy. Although with their personalities, it's hard to raise them in apartment, they need a lot of running and playing time. And if they don;t get it, they will let you know!
BlinkPunk5 3 years ago
It's wonderful to hear about a working group dog who gets the proper amount of exercise. So many people get a certain breed cuz "it's pretty" or looks like a wolf and then just stick in a small backyard and hardly ever interact with it, and then wonder about behavioral problems. So, kudos to you and your dog!
LilaBean05 3 years ago
BlinkPunk5 3 years ago
well it is true that it doesnt matter if its purebreed or not,the important thing is that you like the dog and he likes you!
but as a comment alaskas dont make that woofwooff sound... they make a wolf kinda sound.
lutralutra 4 years ago
they don't make the woof woof sound.... but it's so cute... cuz my cutie pie malamute.... never did and she was the cutest thing ever
StageSex 4 years ago
I think they can have blue eyes but its not as common...my friend has one that has 1 blue eye and 1 blue/brown eye and the vet said it was an alaskan malaute.
jewelkid87 4 years ago
That's a possibility, but it's not a purebred malamute, it must have had husky somewhere in its' lineage. A blue eye is always a disqualification when it comes to malamutes.....but the way i see it, who cares? i don't like dog shows, I like dogs, and if it's a great dog, then great!
rw566019 4 years ago
I agree with you totally :)
jewelkid87 4 years ago
There's even a debate among Malamute people about what size the dog should be.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like conformation dog shows.
westphalianprinz 4 years ago
The way I see it, the bigger the better.....as long as it's healthy big! My girl, the black and white one, is about a year and two months now weighs just over 100 lbs...which is rather small for a lot of mals, but she's still a huge dog!
rw566019 4 years ago
Mines 10 months and she is 120 lbs lol

whats the diff from a malamute and a husky?
lickmyclitoff 4 years ago
Malamutes have a bear or wolf look while Huskies have a more fox appearance. Mals will never have blue eyes like a Husky. Mals are born to pull while Huskies are born to race. Mals are stronger (hence pulling, "king of the working dogs"), less hyper, larger, and have more patience than Huskies. I want one so I did a lil research hehe =]
BlessedBeauty 4 years ago
I've never saw a site that says what the difference is between a husky and a malamute. I'm guessing that 1 difference is that malamutes have longer hair.
andersoncooper06 4 years ago
I just love Malamutes. I love the way they look, the way they "talk" the way their mind is.
And your dogs are just a perfect example of that :)
Thank you for this video, now i will continue my day with a big fat smile on my face :D
(Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Denmark)

I've recently become obsessed with malamutes. Big fluffy wolves, almost...so pretty!
Are they generally noisy dogs?
As for the video itself, very cute! I love watching dogs play.
sagesaria 4 years ago
They are definitely not noisy dogs. MUCH unlike huskys, you will rarely hear a malamute bark, rather they will howl, roo, and talk to you. It's only when talking to you or someone else, or with each other. They won't sit and bark at dogs that walk past your ho use or squirrels out in the yard. But they WILL chase them!! They're great dogs, get one!!
rw566019 4 years ago
Check that on Huskies being loud - huskies don't bark unless they are really agitated. The most you will get out of them is a miserable "woof" sound when they're dissatisfied. They will howl some but their main vocalization is a complainy groan. My two huskies follow what you said about your malamutes.

I have 1 more question... How hard is it to potty train the malamutes? And at what age did u start training ur's?
Taijh2007 4 years ago
Well, we got the youngest at three months, and started immediately. I think it's reasonable to start them as soon as they are weaned from their mother. It wasn't too hard, dogs in general dislike being in their own waste. She had a few accidents, but caught onto the whole "going outside" thing quickly. Her biggest pitfalls now are chewing on wooden furniture and digging, both of which are malamute traits.....and she's not even so bad with them. You'll be fine, and so will your puppy!!!
rw566019 4 years ago
:)Thanx!!!

Ur mal's are beautiful!!!
I am about to get an Alaskan Malamute puppy and I live in Long Island, NY. I just wanted to know if NY's climate is good for raising a mal or if the summers get too hot.
Thanx!!!
Taijh2007 4 years ago
Well, we are in PA where the summers can be pretty hot. As long as you don't keep them out all the time, they'll be fine. Lot's of water and some AC to give them when they want to come inside is all they need in the summer. A Long Island summer will be fine!

They're so beautiful! they looked like they were starting to come on to each other towards the end! Stay cute puppies!
thomasfan001 4 years ago
I have always wanted one of these dogs. I think they are beautiful but am worried how they would be with our rescue cats, potbelly pigs and two lab mixes? Hubby wants a wolf but this is as close as I would go. How are they with other pets? Beautiful dogs!
Michelema2 4 years ago
they are very sweet dogs, very dominant though. i mean, the older one is dominant, the littler one is just a puppy, but she's very sweet and gentle with all animals. they are VERY MUCH chasers, but not so much killers, especially if you bring one into a house thats already inhabited with pets, it won't act so dominant. get one, you should be fine, especially if the dog is a puppy when you bring it home, it will grow up thinking the other animals are its brothers and sisters...
rw566019 4 years ago
I've got an Alaskan Malamute named Makyie, he's about 4 months old and looks EXACTLY like your little girl, Rajah. he has more of Briar's color in the front but is Black on the end like Rajah, and the behaviour is a carbo copy too. Stubborn, but great fun loving dogs.
KTalon86 4 years ago
I LOVE ALASKAN MALAMUTES! I have wanted one ever since I was born
Please can you mseesage me and tell me how much they cost?
AverageJoePizzaShop 4 years ago
Well, they can go for different prices. We got Rajah when she was three months old, so we got a great deal at $200, because she needed a home. They had been asking between 1000 and 1200 for them when they first became available. Thanks so much for your comments!!
