America Founding Father Dan Peek Dead at 60. The singer and musician, who along with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell founded the band America in 1970.
@ThemightyVille I thought that guitar sounded really good for how hard he was strumming it didnt BLAH out once. What kind/make of guitar was he using?
there ya go. that sounds fair. all these modern musicians so-called, instead of writing their own material they should just pay tribute to the 60s 70s 80s by rerecording everything that way people will listen to them. the 70s ? i guess you had to be there
Never really knew much about him until I saw him play with Tommy Emmanuel. This guy is amazing, and he has the energy and personality to match his musical skills. Still not much of a C&W fan, but Keith I'll listen to. Good stuff here. Thanks for sharing this clip.
Man i can't get enough of this man. He really is awsome. I wasn't even a fan until now I HEAR YOU KNOCKIN, but you can come to my home anytime and is he on tour thank you lulu
All i can say about keith urban is that he is very, very, very talented with his guitar. His voice is great too. This video and him singing this song is very entertaining to watch.
Ok, this guy should start a cover band...I swear there is not a song he sings that doesn't just sound amazing, while making it totally his own. Don't get me wrong, I've loved Keith for I'm pretty sure going on 10 years (40% of my life). His original stuff is grand as well! You can do no wrong, my friend. Rock on!
Every time he downstrums you can see his pink and ring finger keeping the beat on the pickguard.... Its not that hard to do if you're just strumming chords
I LOVE this version, it's so gutsy and naked. Man he bangs out a ton of song from that little guitar. Anyone recognize the make?

He's the only one I know of so far that does this song justice. Besides America of course. Nothing beats the original.

Now that is what I call WORK. All that 'clapstrumming" -- OUCH! But he did a great job -- and that 'slide guitar' bit was toooo funny!

Can any guitar players out there tell me how Keith manages to produce a sound like a percussive beat while strumming here?
lessdone 2 years ago
thumping the guitar with the heel of his stumming hand and maybe also stamping his foot I'd say

it's called a clapstrum he pounds the top strings with his wrist.

Thanks! I really like how this adds to the song - sort of one man 3 piece band. Wish more singers played this way when doing solos on acoustic.
