@Ellessarr59 Don't let the long hair fool you. THUG4LIFE. Rollin' outta the Yay Area, brand new for 10! SHIZZ IZ THA RIZZ. STEVE MILLAZ COVAZ NIGGAZ 4 LIFE!
Fixed the glasses mid stream and just kept on rockin! how friggin pimp is that! This is by far the most original rendition of this song I've ever heard in my entire life. Keep on rocking man.
@dannybrains Thanks. I tend to view a song as a blank canvas. I have some originals, but I have a harder time taking off and flying them, because they're too close to my heart.
@1uriiko Pick up "The Guitar Handbook" by Ralph Denyer. And take every possible opportunity to jam with others. And listen to Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Lightnin Sam Hopkins. That all should be enough to keep you going for 10 years or so.
Hey! I think I have the same guitar strap. I just bought it yesterday and found your videos today. I will take this as a sign to keep going. I hope, one day when I'm older, I'll be able to play like you. Tell me, what goes on in your head that lets you play like this? Thanks.
@avlisk Well, you know what happened, is, I'd been playing for 10 years. The somebody gave me a banjo, which is tuned in open G, which I liked the sound of, so I got used to playing that way, and carried it back to the guitar. Not much going through my head at all... at least, not during my best takes.
i stumbled on this looking for a joker lesson- well i found one , boy howdy. did you ever find that dobro and if so do you have any vids of you playing it, i would love to see that. ps what is the difference between a pedal steel, a dobro, and i resonator guitar? i got feeling you would be the one who can answer that. anyway im babbling but great guitar work man.
Never did get a dobro. I think a dobro is all metal, while a resonator guitar is wood but has a metal resonator in it. A pedal steel is a completely different instrument, mounted on a stand and played with a slide and footpedals - Google it for a picture, it's tough to describe. Thanks for the kudos!
Absolutely brilliant! The idea of doing a cover of a song is to make something new out of what is already good (if I want the original version I can play the record). As much as I love the music and performances of Steve Miller i must say that you take this particular song one step beyond the original, which is great too but technically not Miller´s best performance IMHO. You make it swing. Keep posting.
This is the best version of The Joker that I've ever heard. I play guitar (25+ years now) and it's nice to see that there are still some original players out there. Thanks and keep it up, you are awesome.
its a chill, but not remotely sounding like the steve miller song. its not even the right key. its like you're just playing a sick riff and then singing Steve Miller lyrics. props though, you gots chops.
Yeah, I tend to reinvent stuff as I play it. Technically, it is the same progression (although you're right, the key is different, as I play in open tuning and had to capo up to accomodate my vocal range) but I just improvised a bunch of filigree over it. Glad you appreciated it nonetheless, thanks!
Yeah, like I said in the description, I kinda ran roughshod over this one. Never was much good at sticking to original arrangements anyway. Anyway, thanks!
Thanks, man. Yeah, my tobacco sunburst Simon & Patrick cutaway dreadnought, she's my baby. I scoured the music stores of Seattle for 3 days to make sure it was the best one in town before I got it. I had actually been looking for a dobro, but I saw the S&P across the store and just fell in love.
I really didn't like it. Made a good song weird...
