Why do artists insist on portraying Jack as a dapper chap with a cape & top hat? I find the photos of Mary Kelly's corpse to be both the most and least "scary" of the Ripper victims. The morgue photos of the other victims are instantly recognizable as those of dead bodies, the majority with obvious signs of major trauma, which instinctively puts your mind in a state of alarm. Mary's body above the legs isn't immediately recognizable as even being human, so the shock is delayed until you examine the scene more closely and realize the true scope of horror on display.
