Why?
Because I see the difference between the business that is called art, and the art that was once art?
If Damien Hirst can make money making crap, well, so can I. All I need is a promoter that will assure people with much more money than taste that I'm "talented".
Just like Picasso did. And Andy Warhol. Jeff Koons who doesn't even bother to make his "art", but gets a bunch of underlings doing it.

I want to make a sculpture of Jesus Christ, having oral sex with Muhammed as Buddha urinates real urine on both of them, entirely sculpted in dog feces and call it "NEA Grant".
What do you think?
How much you want to bet what I described shows up in an art gallery in 2 years?
Somebody had to conceive this idea, go purchase a fabric that was mostly airtight, stich it together, paint it, and then buy a fan to inflate it. It took effort and money, and for what?
Well, the link I found the video at says it was for a theater production. I guess that's your literal answer.
On a broader plane, though, I've seen a lot more time and effort put into sillier things than an inflatable monster vagina. Joan Rivers and pro sports come to mind.
I am disillusioned by modern art. The artwork of Jeff Koons for example isn't what he creates, it's the public's willingness to purchase it and acclaim it. His artwork is the absurdity of people, not the absurdity of his "work". It's just depressing.
I know many ways this could artistically be used. Mainly in theatre. If it is just installation art... it would be amazing to experience if you were not told what was in the closet...and it was dark and well lit... a very cool installation piece if it was not only a functional set piece for a theatrical play or production.

Vaginas are scary and are filled with gears and teeth. This prop was used to swallow one of the main characters in a play.
