  • The Green God!

  • Used to see The Mac regularly at The Cooks Ferry Inn, in the 60s.

  • Had the pleasure of meeting them all in the dressing room of the Ulster Hall in Belfast around this time!

  • Jedi Green!

  • Compare ANYTHING out today to this. You can't, can you? Now go to bed. It's way past your bedtime.

  • Jeremy Spencer had so much energy in his lead work in this. Love it!! Peters voice is so smooth. Legends!!

  • @KataarSolo DO YOU MEAN KIRWAN?, SPENCER WAS JUST STOOD SHAKING HIS MARACAS LOL.

  • back at the turn of the decade, Cream and Fleetwood Mac were bigger in England than the Stones or Beatles....

  • The laugh at @2:08 makes this clip even better.

  • I just don't see how this is Less recognisable as a "hit" when Led Zep never released any Singles (certainly in UK) and thus were never on a single jukebox. I bet if you did a poll anywhere in the world, of people born before say 1958, they would say this was both a bigger hit, and more well known, than any single Zep track.

  • 0:01 Look! It's Ashton Kutcher Dad!

  • Love this - thanks!

  • What year do you guys think that Les Paul is?? Beauty even in black and white!

  • @NeedlessKane It's a 1959 Les Paul Standard also known as a 'Burst', called after the Sunburst colour!!

  • @GrabbingHandz +1 The 'holy grail' of electric guitars - they go for over $400k now. That particular one, known as the "Greeny Burst" has quite a history to it if you Google it.

  • ay puto, el verdadero fleetwood mac, no mamen que buen rock and roll, yuju fumemos un porro por esa gran epoca

  • Brilliant. Shame they lost Peter Green and went all "West "Coast".

  • Wonderful

  • soooooooo....are you telling me Judas Priest didn't write the song "green manalishi"? cause FM was around long b4 JP was. I'm so confused...lol

  • @2ndhandjoke ...and (gasp!) Santana didn't write "Black Magic Woman" either ;-)

  • 狂喜乱舞!鮮明、1969年、フリートウッド・マック"OH・WELL"ライヴ~ジェレミーもダニーも皆んないる(涙)、そしてGOD、ピーター・グリーン様

  • Love the way he smiles just before he starts singing again - because he's realised that he'd forgotten to say 'Oh Well' - the title! And the laugh he does is just beautiful .. Love this guy ..

  • I saw the original Mac in a small club in Birmingham, MI back in 1969 & they tore the house down. This video is cool, but their concert with lively people was much better. In fact, I think Peter started laughing because he was performing to a bunch of squares.

  • Note Green's reversed neck pickup

  • Fleetwood Mac, without the chicks, was awesome! Though any band (Grateful Dead?) can always use at least one chick--singing, on bass, drums, or...

  • some on tell me were to buy or download the freaking dvd i would murder just to touch it !

  • ok there is a recording of "oh well" that is live in Japan or China as the song ends with some very cool haunting asian flutes or something, anyone know what i talking bout?

  • @2ndhandjoke it's not live, it's the studio version...recorder played by Peter's girlfriend at the time

  • @swacbro Thank you, i love that version as it used to play on the radio all the time when i was a lad & later i could not find it anywhere as i was always thinking it was live for some reason? peace!

  • the guy who introduces the mac is the animals' (former) organist alan price

    bet you didn't know that^^

    great song btw

  • @GreenyIsBest I knew ... ;-) .. He was the playing partner of Georgie Fame on a couple of tunes, too ...

  • It certainly isn't the generic sound that currently plagues our airways today: It's raw and real, the way music should be... For what it's worth, I've always liked old and new Fleetwood Mac. Never thought of music as competition -- like it's become in recent years -- just artists sharing their innermost beauty that stems from a collective consciousness that can not be fathomed in this world. With that said, Peter Green, is sadly, the most underrated musician of his time... Thanks, MB :)

  • That is a monster of a tune!!!

  • That is a monster of a tune!!!

  • @hexcane excellent response to yugenro lol couldn't have put it better myself!

  • Forgotten just how good PG was. That must have been some acid in Munich to mess up what was probably THE perfect band

  • I really dig this song; this performance seems a little rough, but it was brand-new at the time, apparently. Before I saw this, I only knew this song from Lindsey Buckingham-era FM, and their version does kick ass.

  • One of the most underrated groups of the late 60's, Peter Green was and is one of the best guitarists of all time, a musical genius!

  • Last time I saw Danny Kirwan he was holed up in a hostel for the homeless in Covent Garden; has left this world since then, I believe. A sad loss

  • Who are the other guitarists?

  • @MrCraigDNelson Jeremy Spenser on the maracas (he's one of the best slide guitarists ever), Peter Green on lead vocals (obviously), Danny Kirwan on guitar, John McVie on bass, and Mick Fleetwood on drums. The best R&B band to come out of anywhere, period.

  • Comparing the Peter Green era of "Fleetwood Mac" to the Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks era is ridiculous since both have very little in common.....

One is born out of the British Blues music scene of the late 60's, the other comes from the California pop/rock movement of the mid 70's. Different styles, different influences. Neither is better or worse than the other.

It just ultimately comes down to your preference. The Mac was a group that evolves with it's band members and what they brought.

  • I got to see the "Oh Well" tour at he Fillmore in SF. They friggin rocked the place! Take may word for it and I have seen all the biggies, they were right up there. I never much liked Fleetwood Mac after Peter left. The whinny witch drives me nuts! I just heard Mick Fleetwood interviewed and heard his new Mick Fleetwood Blues Band play some of the Peter Green tunes. Sorry Mick but YOU CAN'T TOUCH IT! The guitar player was predictable and lack the depth that Peter Green had. Play on Peter!

  • fucking good! he was a great rocker!

  • One of the great all time blues rock songs. This and the green manalishi were Peter Green at his apex. I think he may be tripping. I recognize that lysergic laugh!

  • HEAVY

  • Man I used to listen to this song 24 7 in the late 60s. I wore a hole in the record I had of it. It came on a record called the Big Ball. Takes me right back to my little record stack on my 99 dollar record player by my bed.

  • this is a million times better than black dog ever was.

  • Thanks rymansimon. I wonder about something else. Is Danny Kirwan still making music? I always thought he was a bit overlooked.

  • @fcassociates Mick Fleetwood said in his autobiography that Danny was mentally ill and really not taking care of himself, let alone making music. Very sad :( He was so cute and talented.

  • Well, everyone justifiably loves Peter Green but we should not ignore Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer. This was my favorite "chapter" in the bands career...hey where in John McVie in this TV show. He what show is this?

  • @fcassociates he's playing his bass..you can see him every now and then in the back...

  • man, danny really tears it up here

  • I was lucky enough to hear this live in a mall sports arena (4000 people) in 1970 Atlanta...was about 15 feet from the Mick Fleetwood side of the stage in front of the speakers..high as a kite (from the music). Yes, Mr. Green is the Real Deal. I am glad that the writer of Stevie Nick's first solo hit, Mr. Tom Petty, gives homage to Mr. Green by playing Oh Well live for the past five years. I hope Mr. Green gets some money for the song eventually as the record company screwed him royally.

  • more nostalgia - ha ha

  • Ya, luv Peter laughing @ Mick. "Live music is better" N.Y.

  • Also an early fave of Steve Marriott(think Small Faces & earlier). Occaisionally covered by Alvin Lee & Ten Years After. Oh, yeah, the Rockets(Detroit) too.

  • I see she joined in 1970. Her husband joined in 1967. I thought they were both members since the 60's, I was mistaken!

  • @STEVEMOR909 She played on their records before she was an official member. That might be what you were thinking of.

  • @BlackMonk66 When Peter Green recorded and toured with Oh Well there were no Ladies in the band. Christine McVie did the album cover drawings and the band didn't know Stevie at the time.

  • @DoowahDiatribe No, Christine wasn't a member of the band, but she played on some sessions. For instance, she's playing the piano on "Love That Burns."

  • @STEVEMOR909 The original band for the first two albums were all men. In the spring of 1970 in Atlanta - no women in the band...just Oh Well

  • real music!

  • Comment removed

  • petre green is dead

  • @SmokeLBC no hes not you tool!

  • Danny Kirwin fucked Peter Green whores.....

  • Heavy rock

  • Where is John & Christine Mcvie?

  • @STEVEMOR909. This was the Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac. The bluesly-rock era

  • @STEVEMOR909 - John McVie is on the far left on the stage - he's basically out of shot for the duration of this clip. As for Christine, she didn't join the band offically until the year after this was made in 1970. By then, Peter Green (lead guitarist and singer) had left the group......

  • 60s metal ftw \m/

  • Ha, they messed up and Peter Green is laughing....man they were awesome!!

  • Peter Green makes it look effortless. Thats talent!!

  • This riff is so badass. I can't even begin to capture it in words.

  • After viewing this, I realize what Jimmy Page was doing with the Black Crowes: They were recreating the feel and sound of this version.

  • This is a fine example of the Green God at work with the boys. Danny on lead and Jeremy of maraccas! I wish they had stuck together instead of the many changes FM has gone through.

  • The Genius of Raw Talent...........!

  • very good

  • this so good

  • this is so good

  • Love his rings :)

  • this is the real fleetwood mac

  • Damn Good Go Peter Green Go!!!!!

  • it blows my mind to have listened to this since 69,,,and fuxin loved how it rocks the shotout of most other songs..BUT i am amazed to see that it's DANNY who is doing the lead riff at the break..OMG..i always figured it was Pete.,,omg they have THREE lead quitarist here..what a fantastic great group they were. OH WELL 1969

  • @CHUCKLOVES1969 How many bands have that many consistently good line-ups over the years?! Shame how Danny Kirwan ended up; so much talent at such a young age. Brilliant song - got to love those lyrics ;)

  • @Jojoseahorse i was at the whiskey in LA, the night john told us that Jeremy didn't show up. little did we know but he never played with them again, having been 'flirty fished'.. by some children of god'. All albums done by them, up to and including Future Games...is pure genius. i was lucky enough to have gotten a fantastic album 'Jeremy Spencer', with 12 new songs on it, played by the original Fleetwood Mac group, featuring songs Jeremy fronted...im sure it was only issued in the UK.

  • @CHUCKLOVES1969 Ha ha, "flirty fished" - I heard about that. "I'm a hooker for Christ" indeed. I understand Jeremy is still a member, glad he still finds time to make some music. Thanks for sharing your memory :)

  • @Jojoseahorse ,,yeah, the 'flirty fisher girls' were mostly 12-16, and lived in

the children of god's headquarters, about a mile up sunset blvd from the whiskey go-go.

and i would die to hear and see the old line-up play again.....i absolutely freak-out.

  • Peter Green: God of british blues

  • Just love the way they cut into this song!

  • I don't wanna be un-feminist or anything, being a girl, but I really don't like Fleetwood Mac after Peter left, and the women joined :|

  • Probably the best line up ANY band has ever had.

  • @einyo I'm a big zeppelin fan, and I couldn't agree more!

  • AC/DC nicked this one on Beating Around the Bush.

  • toon army alan price , the animals and peter green................. how cool is that !

  • The real Mac

  • I have ALWAYS resented that they kept the name Fleetwood Mac after Peter left because they were THE most bad ass blues band of that time and Peter was the soul of that band. When those stupid women joined the band they went off in a WHOLE other direction, which was fine if that was what Mic wanted to do, but PLEASE, they were no longer the Fleetwood Mac that we had loved.

  • @belindaesq

you took the words out of my mouth, perfectly said!

  • It's conceivable that I might possibly have watched this when it was first shown on the BBC. I do hope I did.

Just to think once upon a time, everything on the tele was in black and white & we all used to live on tinned peaches, Instant Whip & Mother's Pride. Tell that to the kids of today, and they won't believe you!

  • Stevie nicks is a Bitch.

  • That's Alan Price at the beginning of the clip, former keyboardist for The Animals who who quit in 1965 cuz he was scared of flying.

  • @rowdymax1 I thought that was him - thanks for confirming! He comes from the same area as my mum :)

  • Why did they skip the magical bass interlude?

I would love to see how they play that awesome part.

  • this song kicks ass. Peter Green-era fleetwood mac--in my opinion--kicked more ass than the whole "pop" era of the mid 70s-early 80s.

  • @phoneix91

    and 90's

    and 00's

and probably for the rest of forever.

"pop" music is getting worse by the second because stupid little 12 year old girls are basically saying useless cum droplets like justin beiber are worth stickin on the radio.

new wave of rock stars and idols....PAH, load of nonsense.

  • @RENN357. Why are you mentioning justin the faggot bieber on a fleetwood mac video.

  • @phoneix91 I completely agree.

  • @phoneix91 yeah I liked rumours but the other stuff got way to mainstream

  • DANNY KIRWIN!!!!!!

  • Ya 100% right - Galvestoner420 - ... of course there are many who have only scratches of knowledge about their era's pops (probably they were busy with smoking couldn't pay attention) ... but personally, I think, it all depends on how much ya heart and soul was/is into those tunes ya grew up. I always loved PG's soulful voice and (looks...haha) ... Tata from Budapest

  • I'm surprised at the amount of people who know NOTHING of this era of the band. Everyone is so familiar with the pop success of the band with Christine, Stevie and Lindsey. I always tell them Peter Green was INCREDIBLE!!! He wrote Black Magic Woman and released it BEFORE Santana, but nobody seems to know that. They all think, "Oh, Carlos Santana wrote that."

  • I happen to like them both. I think I like PG's better actually. But I wouldn't want Santana's to go away, I want to listen to his style as well.

  • @buckethead77 Uh, yeah - NO.

  • @Galvestoner420 PETER GREEN WROTE BLACK MAGIC WOMAN, he named it after Sandra Elsdon his girl friend of that time. She is now a Psychotherapist who works in London.

  • @Galvestoner420 Pop culture is a very severe illness.

  • @Galvestoner420

Holy shit, you just taught me something. My mom is a huge fan of the Stevie Nicks package, but she never told me about this, lol. She probably doesn't know about it either, but man, I feel almost guilty for not having known about it. I wish somebody would have told me sooner... and since you told me that Peter Green wrote "Black Magic Woman," I should tell you that Cachao wrote "Oye Como Va," but I guess you already knew that.

  • Magic vid, thanks for this!

  • Hilarious Peter's response to Mick Flletwood mesing up teh second little percussion break.

  • Led Zeppelin had unlike F Mac no genius in the group. Fleetwood Mac if Peter Green had stayed with it would have been better than anyone in the 70s.

  • Not only that, you could tell Jimmy Page "borrowed" a lot from Peter Green. The riff for Black Dog was taken from this song. "Since I've been Loving You" is nothing more than a John Bonham infused slow blues British style as mastered by Fleetwood Mac under Peter Green. Personally "If You Let Me Love You" from the Boston Tea Party (vol. 3) is much better.

  • yeah whole lotta love was totally lifted from you need lovin' by small faces. at least they showed their influences. steve marriot wipes the floor with robert plant though

  • Shhh, Jimmy Page/ Zep fans lurking around. I stand by my comments on "Black Dog", and "Since I've Been Loving You". Peter Green, and Fleetwood Mac did it better! Random Jimmy Page quotes over the years (post Zeppelin) prove his guilt over the years. Obviously with "Whole Lotta Love" that came directly from Steve Marriot, and the Small Faces, through Willie Dixon's "You Need Love (Lovin')". Robert Plant couldn't hold Steve Marriot's balls to save his life. SM and LZ - Plant = HUGE FAN!

  • Yep...Led Zepp Is the greatest cover band of all time...Do you know about "Stairway" and "Taurus" by Spirit?!??! (who, to little surprise, toured w/Zepp). Maybe thats why they had a 'curse', to much bad karma.....plus Page was infamously garbage live (yes, we all know there are a few decent live takes floating around out there, but a supposed god should be on all the time, not a few times in the early days). Green owns him...flat out. Shit, Tony Iommi owns him.

  • @strangeones4

I couldn't have said it better!

  • This song is one of my all time favorite thanks forn posting this!
