welsh and cornish are a relic of the true british culture inhabiting this island b4 romans.......but fear not, most english ppl have brythonic ancestry....just lost the language from various invasions ^^
i am from wales and i love this song when i first heard this song when i was a baby because my mum and father and my 5 brothers sang this to me to get to sleep XXX i love this song :)
This is just one of the many reasons that Mr. Terfel is my favorite Welsh singer. Such a rich, warm, and gentle voice that is capable of becoming dark and brooding at the same time. BRAVO!!
@dro048 No he wouldn't. Because Bryn Terfel is very much a bass-baritone. Sion Goronwy is a proper dark-toned bass. They have completely different voices.
songs should STAY in their original language, when you try to dub music it takes the original feel out of the music.
learn the lyrics of this song, or pick another, cause if it was dubbed in another language it would not be the same song and would probably not sound good
Sometimes I have the impression that Brad Little(famous Broadway singer)is a smaller version of Bryn.Of course their voices are different. But the similarity is very funny. Look for Brad Little here on youtube and you´ll see what I mean.Bryn is in very good voice here, beautiful singing.
There are few things more magical than a great instrument with potential for great power yet used with artistry and sensitivity. I can bathe in the lushness of this man's sound but then I lose myself in his interpretations which are invariably superb.
The reason the song rhymes in English is that, the translation is not the exact, word-for-word translation but, rather the English version of the lyrics.
Where can one find this music? I have looked all over the internet for this and I can only seem to find chorus versions. If anyone knows where I may find it that would be great, thanks!
Sleep my baby, at my breast, Tis a mothers arms round you. Make yourself a snug warm nest. Feel my love forever new. Harm will not meet you in sleep, Hurt will always pass you by. Child beloved, always youll keep, In sleep gentle, mothers breast nigh. Do not fear the sound, its a breeze Brushing leaves against the door. Do not dread the murmuring seas,
No john williams! L'autore rimane sconosciuto. Abbandonò il testo subito dopo averlo scritto xchè pensava fosse una cosa minore! La canzone è una ninna nanna gallese! Anche la lingua è il gallese!
Sleep my baby, at my breast, Tis a mothers arms round you. Make yourself a snug, warm nest. Feel my love forever new. Harm will not meet you in sleep, Hurt will always pass you by. Child beloved, always youll keep, In sleep gentle, mothers breast nigh. Sleep in peace tonight, sleep, O sleep gently, what a sight. A smile I see in slumber deep,
What visions make your face bright? Are the angels above smiling, At you in your peaceful rest? Are you beaming back while in Peaceful slumber on mothers breast? Do not fear the sound, its a breeze Brushing leaves against the door. Do not dread the murmuring seas, Lonely waves washing the shore. Sleep child mine, theres nothing here, While in slumber at my breast, Angels smiling, have no fear, Holy angels guard your rest.
@Gretawog I know this is an old comment (3 years ago!), but a great place to learn Welsh is "Say Something in Welsh"; it's free, and it works amazingly well. Dw i'n dysgu siarad Cymraeg - I am learning to speak Welsh. :)
Thanks for posting this, rgh97. I guess you're from Korea, as there's a Korean title at the opening. Some friends and I are going there in June, with a Won Buddhist delegation from the US, and we'll sing this for the people we meet there. Bryn sings almost a capella, in a simple unaffected style, and comes closer to the originla spirit of this song than other interpreters I have heard.
The song is a Welsh lullaby and as Bryn is Welsh and his first language is Welsh, you cannot get much closer to the original spirit of the song. I am sure also that his mother sang this to him as a child as my mother did to me.
I don't like it like this. I thought i would but its too over done. This is a song you sing to a small child and this seems overdone. He's got a beautiful voice and this is a beautiful song but somehow it didn't work for me : (
You have a right to your opinion, but this is not overdone, he signs it simply and beautifully with the right amount of emphasis. Yes it is a song that is about a mother singing to her baby, however, in a larger sense it is a song about feeling safe and secure in the warmth of love that is provided for you by your loved ones - it states that there are times when you can feel safe and not worry about anything. As such it is appropriate for a man to sing, especially a man as talented as Bryn.
WOW

@ronaldinhollew "sang" s/be "sung"; and "existance" s/be "existence"........ Otherwise, I agree, even about "seeing" it.
