A note: Make sure that the hanger (the "fork") is covered with a material that does not marr the finish of the neck where it makes contact. I have seen many a guitar (I am a luthier) that has hanger rash by the headstock. Wrap some carpet, felt, or some other like material and you'll be just fine. Also, the type of anchors he used are what I used to hold a shelf with a model ship, and it came out of the wall. If your hanging a heavy guitar, go into the studs with longer screws. Believe me!
A better method is to drill two holes at 45 degrees into the block and glue in some hardwood dowell. then in the middle drill a hole large enough to allow one heavy duty screw to turn loosely. Mount the hanger in a suitable position and when you put your guitar on it the holder will turn to compensate for the neck and the guitar will hang vertically. Works well with electrics where the head stock starts in two different positions . Less than $5 as well.!!
you would be better using a magnet and finding the wall studs instead of using those drywall anchors. trust me an accoustic might weigh about the same as a postage stamp but if you are talking about a les paul or even heavier a bass expect it to come right off because they are not a strong mount designed for that kind of tension. better still use a case...
This video is just stupid. The guy sais that it costs you $5 to build this. A brand new wall hanger costs exactly $5...And you don't have to do the extra work.
The video and the idea is all cool, but I'm wondering, how the hell did I arrive here? I think was watching Pink Floyd - Live in Pompeii. But how the hell am I here? :|
I had the same idea. Except I burned it with a propane torch, then stained it so it matched the guitar color(Dean Vendetta). I also made one for my strat style (black and white) guitar and used a 1/4" piece of wood painted white to match the pick guard. They look awesome!
Anybody else running in to a youtube glitch where if you look up a video on google and click it and when it's done push previous page and it takes you back then loads the video you were just watching
The guy reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite so much! Minus glasses and fair hair!
Good idea, although, I would give the welding on the tool hanger a good test before hanging my guitar on it! I have thought of this idea myself and don`t like the look of the tiny weld holding it.
your best bet is to knock on the drywall like u knock a door and look for the wood. i wouldnt recoment putting a $1000 guitar on drywal itself. :P But this vid is cool! ima try it

Why would anybody want to hang his guitar on the wall in the first place? Walls tend to have a different temperature than the room. This will damage your guitar over time. I suggest to use a guitar stand that can be moved around the room so you can always make sure your instrument is in a shady yet well temperatured place.
@god342 Don't hang it over a wall radiator. Problem solved. The heat and humidity hanging off a bare wall should be no different than it would be sitting on a guitar stand in the same room.Music schools, music stores and professional studios have used wall hangers for a long, long time. I've been using them personally since 1986 with no issues.
I did this a couple of years ago . Works great. But I didn't use drywall anchors, I used longer drywall screws and made sure I drilled them into the stud so there would be less chance of them falling out. And I think just screwing them into the wall isn't a good idea because then your guitar will be right against the wall'.
@dfar0 If you use good anchors they will never fall out. After 4 years mine haven't. Using a stud limits where you can put them. I screwed mine into the wall and the fork is easily long enough to hold the guitar away from the wall.
I think the point of this vid is that it's a cheap/quick way to build (assemble) a guitar wall hanger if you want to do it as a little fun project. obviously it probably isn't the best way to secure your $2500 Les Paul, but it's a cool way to put some of your guitars on the wall and say you did it yourself.
@zwendkos - zwendkos has it right. If anything, this should help you think outside of the box a little, and it's rewarding to build your own useful stuff. Obviously we can't make any guarantees; as with any DIY project, you construct this at your own risk. But if you plan it out and construct it properly, you should have no problems. If you build one of these, let us know how it went!
You actually could hang your Les Paul from it b/c I have a similar hanger but instead of dry wall anchors, I got wood screws and put the hanger on the stud of the wall cause I had the same thought in mind about the guitar.
Nope, for $15 I get a Hercules guitar hanger stand and I can sleep at nights knowing that my Les Paul is held up by something that was designed for the specific purpose of securely holding up my guitar. Yeah, I know, it's $10 more, but I figure the $2500 guitar is worth it. Also, find a stud to screw the wall hanger into, much more secure.
This isnt how you make a wall hanger, this is how you assemble a wall hanger .... when you build an IKEA desk do you say you made the table? I wouldn't because its building different expectations.
@cyoteblues You could theoretically screw the tool hanger into the wall; probably give it a very cool minimalist look. Of course, you'd have to take precautions to make sure it was fixed to the wall securely.

Wall plug into wall and that funny fork into it. simplier. Well, w/o wall plug walls gonna crush. This isn't secure at all.

I bought commercially made ones. They are metal, cost only a little more, Have a pivoting fork so they accommodate any shaped head, and look better.

Why not just screw the wall hanger into the wall and save drilling 3 holes in the wall?
But a good idea. I spent a lot more on the two I have.
