Haven't women been doing this before we were called humans, or even Neanderthals for that matter? I don't get the obsession/preoccupation with the whole issue. If a kid can't figure out where to get the groceries, another law is being invoked
Hey! I just wanted to give u a little help!! You don't have to wait for your breast to feel back up your body knows how much ur baby needs.;) also a good way to help heal ur nipple is after ur baby eats take a little of ur milk and rub it on ur nibble and let it dry!! It will heal in no time!! Good luck and stay with it!
If he is really just wanting the nipple, try a nipple shield. It still will be sore but the cracking and drying will be able to recover. (I had the same problem with my daughter in latching on)
... of women can get more milk out of the one breast while baby is on the other. A pump doesn't imitate a baby's suckle so even if you can't pump a lot of milk it doesn't mean your baby isn't getting it, pumping isn't a good indication of supply. Good luck!!
If he doesn't like latching symmetrically try to latch him asymmetrically. It works better for some babies and usually they only teach you a symmetrical latch. The symmetrical latch is the one where you wait for my baby's mouth to be open and then quickly pull them into the boob. An asymmetrical latch, you tilt his chin up put it against your boob and hinge him over your boob so it almost looks like he's chomping. Also pump on your sore boob while you feed on the non damaged one. Lots...
the more he eats the more youll make its better to either pump or breastfeed even if nothings coming out because the stimulation tells your body he needs more, itll happen alot because hell be having alooot of growth spurts in the first couple months theres days where i sit and nurse allll day long. my nipples bled in the beginning they would be scabbed, i looked it up and it wont hurt them even if it sounds gross that hes drinking some blood
Have you thought of going to a milk bank for emergencies like this? Hope things get better for you. Maybe a nipple shield will do the both of you some good and give your nipple a break and time to heal. GOOD LUCK!!!!
Im so sorry things arent going well right now. Keep up the pumping and breastfeeding, you can do it! Dont feel bad about supplementing a little. I had to a few times. And blood in the milk is okay to feed him still. Youll get there hon!
You love your baby boy and want the best for him, that's easy to understand :) If a little formula will keep his tummy full and give you a chance to heal/catch-up then that's great! No worries hun.
Have you been to a la leche meeting? Look them up online they are wonderful. They will help you make sure he's lacking on properly, it shouldn't hurt. And if you have a crack or blood are u using nipple cream every time u nurse? Also, they told me not to use a bottle for the first month or until u have established good BFing, because it can cause nipple confusion for baby. Which sounds like the issue to me. Pump and freeze it. Don't use a bottle yet. He's getting what he needs if he's BFing, so
Pump Pump Pump! I had an over abundance of milk because i would pumps after his feedings to get milk built up for when i went back to work. (Which I ended up with hundreds of bags) Drink lots of water too. Hes getting enough milk though. He knows how much he needs you milk supply will adust to his demand, but pumping really works. It may take a couple days
Have him pacify on your breast even when he is not getting anything. It will increase your supply because your body will recognize the demand. I know it will be painful, but it will be worth it. Also, it is alright to give your baby BM even if it is tinted with blood. Moms BF their babies with cracked and bleeding nipples all the time. HTH a little. People are going to support you either way :)
• If he ate more than normal one day, your boobs will not be more empty. He regulates your supply. You make as much as he needs, based on how often he's on the breast. So put him on the breast as often as he wants.
I dealt with nipple confusion, supplementing, torn bleeding cracked nipples, I know it's not fun but it will pass. Having him suck more will actually help it heal faster,
Good luck and good for you for pushing through it. kellymom.com is a great resource for breastfeeding.
Have you talked to a lactation consultant about all this? Because they will most likely tell you a couple things, such as:
• You should try exclusively breastfeeding for the next 6 weeks. No pumping, no bottles. Your baby is pulling off so often because he is used to the bottle giving milk faster.and not having to work for it. He is also just sucking the nipple because that is what the bottle nipple is like. This is nipple confusion.
• Blood in your milk is very normal and completely safe.
Arg! Why does BF have to be so hard!! Don't feel bad about supplimenting...I did for a lot of weeks when Chelsea was first born as we had latching problems..and my supply was low! It does get better...hang in there!! You are Amazing and you're doing such a good job!!
Girl, Im going through the exact same thing. Ill finally get a little stored away and she will have a growth spurt and eat a bunch. The only different in my experience is Im still using a nipple shield. Ive been giving Nova formula here and there. Its really no big deal. Youre doing a good job! Does your hospital provide the sheilds? Thats were I got mine. He's so cute and tiny.
I understand what it feels like to have to supplement. We had such a rough time the first week. Once he learns to latch and you can bf on demand, it gets MUCH easier.
Keep pumping the bleeding side and just dump it, that way you won't lose production.
I'm sorry you're having such a rough day. It gets better. I promise
Have you called the hospital and talked to a nurse on the mother/baby floor or a lactation consultant? Mine gave us a sheild when my nipples were sore. Just a thought!
Aw hang in there...i think supplementing with formula is the right way to go for now. I think you should keep pumping the right breast though in order for your supply not to go down. i think it will get better.
Chug a lot of water all day every day, and eat oatmeal. These will increase your milk supply. Pump on your right side even if it is sore, it will keep your production up and won't decrease. Every time he latches incorrectly, pull him off and place him back on when his mouth is wide open. Continue until he latches properly. He may get frustrated but he will catch on. I have been through the same thing before.
You know the only way to produce more milk is to feed (pump) more ...? Supply will equal the demand, the more you feed, the more you will produce. I suggest you still pump every four hoours. EBM is still better than AM. Not hating - Just saying. Good luck !
do you think that using the breast pump (i.e. bottle feeding) as well as pacifiers prevents baby from learning to properly latch on to real breast? I heard this at my hospital in france they said its best to avoid pacifiers& bottles in the beginning. another midwife there said the baby finds it easier to have the bottle and if it takes less work then why bother with the whole natural sucking process. although breastfeeding makes their IQ higher, maybe because its harder? take care and good luck
Awww dont be too hard on yourself Alex! You are doing a great job!! It will get better. Keep your head up girly!! I never thought to breastfeed with my first. With my 2nd I thought about it but ended up not. Now I REALLY regret it. Not only did we go through 8 different kinds of formula until we found one that didn't upset his tummy, I see what a wonderful bond it creates! Watching all of the YT mommies that do BF I am going to BF our 3rd.....if we have a 3rd!! LOL Dante is so stinkin cute!!
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time but it is a hard job. Try hand expressing your milk even if you don't get much, you are still stimulating your breast. If you take a break from breastfeeding your supply might decrease even more. Good luck =)
I am proud that you are trying your hardest.... I tried but I have low pain tolerance and couldnt stand the pain... i had to get an epi early on in labor for them to put an internal monitor on because of it... so I had to do formula feed .... i envy woman who can actually do it... keep with it!
and make sure you are using lanolin on your nipples when pumping if you dont have any let me know cause i have a bunch of samples that i will send you cause it makes a difference with pumping
try power pumping its what the lactation consultant had me do when my milk wasnt coming in and it worked. what you do is pumo for 10-15 mins then stop for the same amount of time and do this whether or not your actually getting milk by pumping like this it will help regenerate quicker and then pump on and off like that for 1 hr and then again like that every 3 hrs or so if u have any questions email me!
thats exactly why im considering to formula feed. breast feeding is painful and you dont produce enough to give him milk and pump at the same time, its really a pain.
awh sorry about your bad day, i hope tomorrows a better day! what kind of formula did you use?
i have no issue with formula, breast is best thats just fact. however you are so right, you are a mommy and paul is a daddy you guys make the decisions for your baby based on what you think is best, you're doing great! you're adorable with him!
Do what you have to do to keep Dante healthy and happy. You obviously want what is best for him! Hang in there. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and plan on breastfeeding, so I'm sure I'll feel your pain soon.
If you have a target where u live at go there there are more breastfeeding things there I'm not sure what it's called but there are things you can buy to help you nipples heal a lot faster I'm sure you will see it when your there.they also sell the nipple shields at target..I'm sorry things aren't going great but it'll get better soon!.mean while keep doing what you are doing!
Breastfeeding can be so frustrating.....you do what you have to do and if that precious baby is hungry and needs food then give him formula for a little while, there no need to feel guilty about that. You are doing the best you can and thats all you can do! :)
Girl there is nothing wrong with formula. I'm doing both breastfeeding and formula because I'm not producing enough milk for him and I feel good because at least he's getting some breast milk. Things happen and at least you know you are doing your best for your baby.
The more milk he demands the more milk you make. I know it is tiring but your produce what he will eat if he isn't gonna eat much he your boobies aren't gonna produce much.
I love your out of order boobie lol.
Don't feel bad honey. It is okay. your doing all you can to give him what he needs. He will be perfectly fine. Don't feel guilty please!!!
