The links you posted is 5F138 which only works for 2nd gen touch. You should change them to 5F137 because I spent like an hour trying to figure out why my 1st gen touch won't upgrade.

I was able to update to 1.1.5 because I did it thru iTunes (free). But, to upgrade to 2.1 its $10.

Restoring to latest iPod Touch Firmware 2.1 will definitely erase all old content. And if you don't have the songs backup, good luck... :)

not clear as of now but they are expected to be shipped with the latest firmware but meanwhile you should know that, there isn't any jailbreaks for the 2nd Gen Touches :(

then after that what i did was i clicked shift restore and choosed the 2.1 file

after i did all this it worked perfectly and then when i tried to use the application it just quit out to home screen. i tried deleting off after it was backed up on my computer and re downloading it but it said error. 5stars if u help!

guess it should not matter which firmware you are on when you are trying to restore to a new firmware but have you tried any of the other 2.x firmwares like 2.0.1 or 2.0 ?

Right click the 1st file "iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.par­t1.rar" and select "Extract here" and done :)

Make sure all 6 parts are in the same directory...

Yeah, you can try that but this isn't a jailbroken custom restore firmware, it's the Apple's official release of the 2.1 Firmware for the 1st Generation iPod Touch
