I bought this case a couple years ago to house my dad's computer. The airflow going into the case from the front fan is horrible. Either the stock fan is too weak, or the plastic front bezel restricts airflow too much. The hard drive got incredibly hot. Overall case cooling is also pretty poor compared to the older Cooler Master ATC-201 that I use.
now if i installed my motherboard in this case and got an after market heatsink for my cpu sometime down the road will i have to take my motherboard out of the case or is there an opening in the back were i can install it without doing all that
im sorry those LARGE LED bulbs completely pointless, idk if you keep them there if yes i would suggest take them out they extract heat which is not what you want when you want it as cool as possible!
Thanks. The only problem I had was removing the front bezel which I never managed in the end. I managed to fit a dvd writer though by pushng out the grill from the inside with the bezel still in place. I've got another case on order so I'll try and remove the front bezel on that. Apart from that I think it's a very good case for the money.
the cm690 II case is SOO much better than this. Cooler master really made this case better. As you can see by this computer. the cable managment isnt so great
Just a note, if you look right in front of where the PSU sits, there's a hole leading to the back of the mainboard plate, so you can run a lot of your cabling through that hole for a neater look and better airflow. Good video tho.
yeah cables, not much space between the motherboard tray and the left side panel... it has abit of turned over metal on the tray to keep it solid but it mean at its smallest point 0.6mm.... so no way to get the motherboard cable through, and the hole next to the power suply iv very small
Cluttered spider web cables (Like in this video) reduce air flow, thus causing higher temps and slightly less life out of your components. And if you were trying to be a smart ass, then fuck you.
offense not intented, but you do have to clean up the wire management.I got one and painted the inside black and bought an extra left side panel thru cm store and cut out the side and put a clear plexiglass.....looks awesome....nice vid btw.
i just got it from newegg today and the only problem i see is that my PSU main 24 pin Mb power cable is barely long enough were as my old top mount case it was plenty long i dont know if anyone else has had similar problems
nice review, i'm very interested in this case and i have 2 questions for you as a user:
1) Did you connect the stock fans fo the MB headers or used the molex adapters so they run at full speed?
2) i'm very concerned about fan noise of the stock fans(which connects to the above question), are they too noisy to, let's say sleep in the same room?
1)When I recorded that video, the case fans were directly hooked up to the PSU via Fan header to molex adapter. As of now, most of my fans are hooked up to a fan speed controller. Check out some of my newer videos to see what it looks like.
2) At full speed, the back and side 120 mm fans are a bit noisy, but you could probably sleep through the noise (Depending on the noise of the fans of your gpu/cpu coolers) (personally I can sleep through anything lol).
If you have great CPU and GPU heatsinks (Like I do) running those case fans at full speed isn't really needed, which is why I bought a fan speed controller.
thanks for the prompt update, i'll probably hook them to the motherboard headers anyway.
Right now i have a "crappy" brand case with 1 80mm side fan and a (usually off) rear 80mm fan in my bedroom. I obviously can sleep with it and my worry is that the cm690 with those 4 fans will blow my head off with noise
It looks beautiful and got it for $49 w/ free shipping. I havent used it yet though because I am upgrading later. I should go for an Evga classified mobo and any Corsair 3x2gb of ram. Ill stay with the GTX 260 core 216 video cards. Money is no problem but I'll upgrade when the Core i9 comes out. Thanks and nice review of this great case.
I have a question: my motherboard (Asus P5Q3) has three 3pin cooler supplies (one is for my vga) and one 4pins for my cpu cooler, does this mean i can only use 2 case fans? or can i install them directly to my power supply? My power supply is a cooler master M850 (850 Watt)
This case looks interesting because of it's airflow, but if i can only install two case fans while i have room for 5 or more it would be useless
Yes, you can install fans directly on to the power supply. You can buy adapters that converts molex (4 pin connector on PSU) to the 3 pin fan connection. Or some fans have molex only so those can easily be installed directly on to the power supply.
I actually have a video specifically on that. Look on my videos, and find "How to remove front panel on CM 690". If you can't find it, just tell me and I'll send you a PM with the direct URL. Thanks for watching!

I'm on stock fan configuration right now because my CPU and GPU heatsinks are great. If you don't have great heatsinks, two more big fans would come in handy. And remember, two places on the top, and one on the bottom, will take up to 140mm fans.
Hell yes you can. I know because i have :D Although if you're using a 295 you'll have to put some more fans in the case cause the 295 is a bitch for heat
I'm pretty new to youtube, at least posting videos almost on a weekly basis, so don't expect me to be as good as 3dgameman or trubitar. Yes, I may have missed some things but I welcome people to ask questions. Other than what you said, I would say this review is pretty successful. I'm getting a zalman cooler soon, and I'm going to do a system rebuild. When I post that video, feel free to inspect my cable management.
I tried taking off the top panel and putting my lights there, but there was no room to close the top cover. I haven't tried the front though, I would think I would have the same issues though. I would just experiment and find the best place. There are a lot of holes for big fans making good places for light to seep through. Currently I have my lights going outside of my case, and behind my monitor. It looks cool.
Yes this case has a lot of vents but most of them are covered with dust filters. The front and top of the case have dust filters, including the 5.25" bay covers. The PSU intake fan grill is dust filtered and there is a 140mm fan bay on the bottom that is also dust filtered. The side intake fans and the rear exhaust 120mm is not dust filtered.

good review. very thorough..
i got this case and is havin it shipped in.
but i dont got a clear window for the side..
and i wanted blue cold cathode.. so im thinkin of placin the cathode vertically right behind the mesh for a cool look.. is that possible?
where do i place the tubes for it to look really cool(without a window..)
thx!

It looks cool.

are these removable and washable filters, or just meshed intakes, which reduces but does not stop dust traffic?

Mesh grill, and foam like dust filter. Front 120mm dust filter is easily removable. Bottom fan's filter remove I think.

with so many unfiltered air intakes this case is a dust trap, can you confirm this?
logitech5000 2 years ago
Yes this case has a lot of vents but most of them are covered with dust filters. The front and top of the case have dust filters, including the 5.25" bay covers. The PSU intake fan grill is dust filtered and there is a 140mm fan bay on the bottom that is also dust filtered. The side intake fans and the rear exhaust 120mm is not dust filtered.

1X 120 MM in the front, 1X 120MM in the back and 1X 120MM on the side. All of those fans are intake except for the back fan.
