I'm 14 years old. Music was so much better back then. People make fun of me all the time for listening to this music, but i do not care one jot. And all ladies now-a-days need to look at these women and learn. They were modest and had dignity. Ladies now wear scandalous clothing and such. Its such a shame how the country has deteriorated over the decades.
It's not bad, it's the early culture of the United States. It's just fine to appreciate this music. What do you see in this video? The women have dignity, for they sing fully clothed. Too much of today's music involves nearly nude women with music about sex. Before I go too far about society and whatnot (which I think would be too much for now), do not let anyone tell you it's bad to listen to the classics of your country.
1) What does "get mad with somebody" mean ? Have a crush ? Because I only know "be mad of", like in "she's mad about cats", but I guess it's not the point, right ?
2) What does "rave" mean her ? Be delirious ?
3) Does "hobo" mean "tramp" ? What's that got to do with the rest of the song ?
4) What the hell does "bail out" mean ?
5) "Not just to prove that I can take it as well" : ?!
1) Here, getting mad is the same way we use it today. They're saying that if a girl get's mad with (or at) her guy, she should just tell him to hit the road, or leave.
2) Raving means going on and on. (as in ranting and raving)
3) Hobo does mean tramp, since they're telling someone to "hit the road" and get moving.
4) "Bail out" means "get lost", as they said just before.

The difference was, society as a whole was more loving, because they didn't have dirty magazines and dirty television shows, or dirty movies, that pollute our minds! @bulbinking They did indeed!! It wasn't enough to just stand up straight and sing well - you had to dance and even act while doing so in order to be a major "hit". The Andrews Sisters did all three: sing, dance and act, very well and they were rewarded with plenty of great contracts and concert tours - well deserved, i hasten to add!! Been a fan since i was 6 years old, and love these wonderful ladies still. Wish we had something like them around today!!!

Most Americans never even saw the Andrews - they only heard their voices over the crackly AM or Shortwave radio.
They *might* have seen them in a movie, but most likely not since 1940s America was still rural without convenient theaters to serve the widespread farms.
So the Sisters were judged almost purely by how they SOUNDED not how they looked.
The girls went to High School in Mpls. at Edison High. My dad said they put on quite a show for the school, so I'm sure that helped with their showmanship!
It's Fallout and it a video game's series. If I'm not mistaken the song in the intro of the third instalment of the series ths song is "Civilization" (also known as "Bongo Bongo Bongo") with performers Andrew Sisters and Danny Kaye. Really great song.
Personally I always loved these kinds of music but I only knew about the Rat Pack and its members. Thanks to Fallout 3, I'm listening to Bob Crosby, Billie Holiday, Tex Beneke, Glen Millern, Ink Spot, the Andrew Sisters and more.
Despite the fact that teens now a day would only look at something that is tied with the popular culture like Bioshock and Fallout 3, it at least opens a window for them. If some of them like the songs and try to find more like them, then at least they try to widen their taste in music.
Is that really so bad? I mean, where else are they going to hear old music like this? Not like cable, tv or radio have many classic music shows anymore.

Check out the Puppini Sisters, they're a modern-day version of the Andrew Sisters. Not only are their harmonies tight as a drum, their arrangements are just incredible. They have done covers of some real classics and also have originals. Now, if only the youth of America would discover this group...

You guys wouldn't believe how old I AM... and I just LOVE these types of music! LOL, none of the kids at my school barely even know who The Andrews Sisters, Bing Crosby, Les Brown or even (Just about 3 decades away from this year... and went back on tour about 2 years ago) Tina Turner. Such a shame!! Lol, I think I was born in the WRONG ERA!!

@bulbinking They did indeed!! It wasn't enough to just stand up straight and sing well - you had to dance and even act while doing so in order to be a major "hit". The Andrews Sisters did all three: sing, dance and act, very well and they were rewarded with plenty of great contracts and concert tours - well deserved, i hasten to add!! Been a fan since i was 6 years old, and love these wonderful ladies still. Wish we had something like them around today!!!

This song is my life.....I just read "Dream when your feeling blue" By Elizabeth Berg it.was.amazing. It is set in WW2, when these lovely ladies were popular :D It even talks about them... :)

AOL Radio plays old songs on thier 30s/40s Channel. Ditto Sirius XM on their Channel 4.
That's where I hear a lot of these old songs. Also old movies on TCM.

This was pre-television.
Most Americans never even saw the Andrews - they only heard their voices over the crackly AM or Shortwave radio.
They *might* have seen them in a movie, but most likely not since 1940s America was still rural without convenient theaters to serve the widespread farms.
So the Sisters were judged almost purely by how they SOUNDED not how they looked.

The girls went to High School in Mpls. at Edison High. My dad said they put on quite a show for the school, so I'm sure that helped with their showmanship!

It's Fallout and it a video game's series. If I'm not mistaken the song in the intro of the third instalment of the series ths song is "Civilization" (also known as "Bongo Bongo Bongo") with performers Andrew Sisters and Danny Kaye. Really great song.

Personally I always loved these kinds of music but I only knew about the Rat Pack and its members. Thanks to Fallout 3, I'm listening to Bob Crosby, Billie Holiday, Tex Beneke, Glen Millern, Ink Spot, the Andrew Sisters and more.

Despite the fact that teens now a day would only look at something that is tied with the popular culture like Bioshock and Fallout 3, it at least opens a window for them. If some of them like the songs and try to find more like them, then at least they try to widen their taste in music.

Check out the Puppini Sisters, they're a modern-day version of the Andrew Sisters. Not only are their harmonies tight as a drum, their arrangements are just incredible. They have done covers of some real classics and also have originals. Now, if only the youth of America would discover this group...

@triscuitcrackers - Good music may not have ended with the Andrews Sisters but it certainly was good music. I refrain from saying "their music" because they didn't write songs but thay had a unique style and performed some of the best songs ever written better than almost everyone else.
Also, admittedly some rap is good, but ALOT of it is mainstream rubbish which is forgotten as soon as it drops down the charts.

No, I BELIEVE good music comes in many forms excluding rap/hip hop. I've listened to many different genres, bluegrass, metal, rock & roll, country. That are older, or newer than the Andrews Sisters. I used to listen to rap, but realized that it was pointless, unskilled talking with little musical talent. I watch/listen Fox news, thank you very much, As I prefer to associate with people of my ideology. I don't 'proclaim' anything, I was stating my opinion.
