That almonds are toxic for chinchillas and degus is a myth ... in germany you have a lot of people, who are feeding there chinchillas and degus with almonds and all this chinchillas and degus are healthy ...
A few people in germany had feeded there chinchillas with pellets, then there chinchillas had become ill ... so they changed the food to dry and fresh herbs, flowers, vegetables, fruits, nuts and almonds ... and now there chins become much healthier then ever before.
I have two chinchillas and have done a LOT of reading about them to make sure that I take care of them properly. I have read many, many sad stories about what happens when you feed chinchillas nuts, even organic ones. I believe that you're a good person and that you love your chinchilla but please look this up and see what I mean. It could save your chin a lot of pain.
Also, as has been said before, your chin should never go so long without a bath as to look this oily. It stresses them out.
My chinchilla has been eating almonds for about 8 years now. Too many people think they know whats good for a chinchilla when they dont. Oh yeah She also eats fresh strawberries. Shes perfectly healthy.
@jeffgooloolie We always look forward to blackberry season because our Gracie LOVES blackberries! We have a patch out back and along with those she loves blueberries (we have a bush) and every so often a nibble of the pears we have growing...she gets one blackberry in the morning and one at night...and if everyone noticed I said we look forward to the season, meaning that she's been alive and well eating the fresh fruits we grow in the yard year in and year out!
Oh my good.. if i see this, i´m scared... the chinchillas should not eat nuts! its to fat!... and it needs a dust bath quickly!!!... i cant see this..
yawn come on say it again amysaysrawr i dont care at first it was funny but then u got boring well come on type the same thing again u should think of something new to say then it wont be so boring lol u come on kepp humilating urself i really have nothin to do with what ur saying cuz i have no idea what ur talking about
i pay 150 to 200 for my chin i got a white chin 2 years ago i named her gizmo and i am getting a new one soon right now the won i am getting from a breeder is 4 months and 4 days old i cant wait to see her she is black but idk wht to name her
wTF did u like bathe the poor thing? or are you putting it in the dust bath to much. never bathe the chinchilla.wow... you know nothing about chinchilla's ur basicly abusing it, i could call animal control on you and "mrsmozza" stop begging. ok? and a chinchilla cant be in a dust bath more than 15 mins O_o
to me chinchillas look better not bathed like this one, it makes them look "scruffy" i like the look , but dont get me wrong dust baths are important i make sure my bubz gets his dust
Also you need to brush them during priming (shedding) around every 8 moths. Just hold them up by their tail (painless to them) and brush backwards, not to hard and not to light, probably find a better tutorial somewhere.
p.s. we are saying this for your chinchilla's happiness
Hold it strongly by the base of its tail with one hand while supporting the weight of the chinchilla with the other hand. If you hold the tip of the tail, it will come off as the animal struggles to break free. Imagine a lizard or newt, you'll know what I am talking about.
Chinchila's are very expensive in Alaska where I live.A chinchila up here cost 100.00 dollors but I've been doing alot of math since im going to be getting one and all together for the chinchila and everything that it will need will cost about 313.00 so ya there expensive
why is it every chinchilla video i have watched on here ppl are bitching ffs this isnt a chinchilla advise centre if ppl want advise they'll go to a chinchilla forum or buy a book. maybe this chin has been handled for a while and now looks a bit greasy there's no need for everyone to be having a go. The chin looks healthy and happy and they obviously know about dust baths as they have another video of a chin having a bath.
Maybe I'm just being a devil's advocate, but some chinchillas just look really greasy after you hold them just a little. I know it's all fun, anonymous and popular to be an "internet expert," from a small video clip, but...
...oh yeah, and so I can be a 'Tuber expert too, true about the almonds. No bueno.
Almonds are not a good treat for chins.. no nuts should be given at all. The best kinds of safe treats are old fashioned rolled oats(not the quick-cook kind) unsweetened/un-frosted shredded wheat, and dried rosehips. a great place full of information on chins, as well as a big classifieds section where people sell chin safe stuff is Chins-n-QuillsDOTcom
Very cute, definately needs a biiig dust bath though. Try not to let him get like that often, and give him a bath quite regularly.
Also, like it says in the title, TREAT, can't those idiots read!?!? Its not like you are giving him a big friggen bucket of almonds. A couple here and there occasionally are fine.
My chin really likes dried bananas, we shake the container so that he can hear the noise and give him the treat ( only in moderation or else they get sick!) he goes nuts when we make the " treat noise"
Actually, raisins are not good for chins. They can get one a week and that is about it. There is to much sugar in a raisin and they can get diabetes from having to much sugar. The almond isn't a great treat either though. Try rosehips, they love them.
i know raisins aren't the best eaither but they love them. I have one chinchilla that doesn't like me and a raisin every now and then is the only thing she will take from my hand
An almond here and there isn't a problem for their digestive system. Some of my closest friends who happen to be chinchilla breeders (not a farmer becuse they are all slaughter happy assholes) say that tap water is one of the biggest killers in chinchillas because of the chlorine content. I would give the chin a raisin becore an almond, but raisins can mess up thier excretory system as well. Great post and hope to see more soon.
please e-mail me with more info on how tap water can kill a chinchilla. i have one and want him tolive a full healthy life. Also, do you have and other suggestions on what to give him to drink instead of tap water?
Yes, they can, but only in moderation. Look up the wonder of chins site. They can help you out. There are plenty of things that chins can eat fresh but you have to watch the suger content. (exotic vet)
Yeah. They can eat it, but that doesn't make it healthy for them, and it can be potentially deadly. Domesticated cinchillas are NOT MEANT to eat fresh veggies.
