OMG!! YOU LUCKY BUM!! do you no how long iv been turning over logs to find beetles HALF the size as some of those?!? and you could practicaly get one by just standing there?! pleas tell me! are they still there? im looking for beetles to give to my entomology teacher for extra credit!.... your so lucky! or i guees in YOUR case, unlucky! :)
these things have invaded my yard!!! they crash land into the owning of our back deck and we come outside the next day with hundreds o f beetle corpses and ant trails on our concrete!!! i want to know how to get rid of them, they drive me crazy!
In places, one couldn't walk without stepping on them. When driving into town, there was a continual crunching as the wheels passed over beatles. A sweet sickly smell hung over the town from crushed beetle.
I remember this... it was so nasty. I didn't have ac in my car at the time and I had to keep my windows rolled up because of these suckers. Thank goodness they haven't returned
Same thing happens to us in Arizona, except its a different species of beetles and here they take over gas stations. I wonder what it is they are attracted to?
they are attracted to light, they like white light, they are active at night thats why they go to the light at night, they will go to the gas station or the street lamp.
I live in Texas. Bad enough we have tornadoes, hail, severe weather, we also have bugs. LOTS of bugs. *shivers* Some of 'em so big, you can ride them. LOL
They are ground beetles in the Carabidae family. They eat armyworm caterpillars but during the overpopulation, they were eating other insects and each other. I think the increased number of beetles was due to the weather that year. There were also large numbers of certain moths and other insects. Since 2001, I have only seen a few of the same beetles in Texas. 2001 was an unusual year.
The mummy is real!!!!!

It appears that this town missed a lot of storms!
But still had the hot humid weather
Severe weather usually kills the bugs(flooding rain drowns and hail smashes).
So the bug show that the town has missed the storms.
Q. Why is a storm chaser in a town with no storms?
netook8 4 years ago
wow, cool... how big were they?
lllCockroachlll 4 years ago
Iv'e senn this before when my town was overrun by bugs of all sized.
netook8 4 years ago
Any idea on which species this exactly was?
Did this have something to do with migration due to a storm?
