Anyone that has ever worked on a rig floor knows that everyone on that floor understands that the sh%$ can hit the fan at any moment and they also understand just how dangerous the work they are doing is.. The fact that we can build a rig in mile deep water and then drill another mile or two past the sea floor is an engineering marvel at the least.
Something (the BOP) failed to lockup and that is what you call an accident. It's all going to get cleaned up so you libs take a pill.
@txfirehawk -Is it possible that the BOP shears were unable to close, because of a drill pipe coupling inside the BOP? I've heard that suggested. -Also, could the wellbore casing have blown up inside the annular BOP?

I presume they took a quick kick and had no time to close the rams. the fire was probably caused by a tool spark, or some asshole smoking.
