@Cofrugal I don't play BF3 so can't definitely answer. Check the advice to CrunchyBrush below. That's the go-to setting that I use and works for every game I play.
1. Set all 8 directions in the dpad in the configuration software to 'default'. (You CANNOT get 8way directions by binding the dpad to WASD or disabling the diagonals.)
2. In WOW (or any other game), bind Forward/Back and Strafe Left/Right using the Dpad.
Please PM me if this still is not working for you.
You said that the DPad works out of the box, but mine does not. :-/ If I leave everything on default including WoW then my character spins rather than strafing or moving diagonal. I tried remapping in the Nostromo but now the diagonals do nothing at all and stop movement.
It's the same problem I used to have on the Belkin N52 which I fixed by disabling the diagonals, but that has no effect on this one. I can't move diagonal no matter what I do. Any ideas? 2.02 sw and 1.02 fw
@zeittotschlager Some clarification - The dpad works out of the box, but your WoW bindings may need tweaked. By default WoW's binding will put the dpad as TURN left/right. You may need change your bindings in WoW so the dpad is on STRAFE left/right. But make sure to leave the Nostromo profile settings on default for the dpad.
@Grendalsh Thanks for the reply. Prior to my first post I tried just as you suggested, but I couldn't elaborate due to limited space. That didn't work for me either. I tried in other games to no avail. For instance, in Minecraft, there is no turn, only strafe. My N52 handles this correctly, but the Razer will not move diagonally. I opened a ticket with razer support and the rep immediately escalated it to someone else, whom I have not heard back from. I'll update here when I can.
@zeittotschlager I heard back from Razer finally. "We have referred this to the team in charge for their immediate attention and investigation. We will keep you updated as soon as a new version is released. Thank you." Basically, the current driver for the Razer Nostromo can't figure out how to diagonal on WASD, only on Arrows. So you have to set up your keybinds in the game AND in the Nostromo. The N52 did not have this problem. I never used anything but the default keybinds in any game.
@zeittotschlager That's odd then, since the default binding values on the Nostromo dpad are the cursor arrows. In my previous videos I have covered the value of binding the cursor arrows vs WASD in WoW, so I may not have mentioned setting this up in this video. However, it is necessary to synch the dpad and WoW to the same bindings, and the arrow cursors have many benefits over WASD.
@zeittotschlager i had that problem where my d-pad diagonals weren't working, it's a problem with the 2.02 drivers (possibly 2.01 and 2.0), to fix it i found the old 1.03 drivers and now the diagonals work perfectly. you can't have repeating macros though, since they're 2.0 onwards.
@arspart Ok.. I just tested in a text window, and had 3 repeating macros running simultaneously. It would appear multiple repeating macros is now a supported feature. Let the spam wars commence.
@arspart Which Macro issue? The only one I'm aware of for the Nostromo is the current limit of one repeating macro at a time, and I have not heard anything new on this issue.
@0sba, it's called Opie, and is available from either WoWInterface or Curse. I'm rebuilding my rings at present, but I plan on posting them up to share soon (tm).
@DesignVisStudios Between pushing triple monitors each at 1080p, fraps, and the conversion from raw screen to avi.. the fps does take a hit. Normally I'm at 30-45 fps. rarely drop below 30 even in raids.. but fraps.. sheesh..
Thanks for the quick reply! I enjoyed the video, and I've been in the TOR beta for months now and just ordered a Nostromo and Naga. (I love TOR so far, btw!) Thanks again!
@SuperJobotoo I will be trying out TOR and using the Nostro, so there will be a profile. I'm torn about how much I'll play it.. I mean.. Star Wars!! but.. WoW.. grr.. Need to quit my job so I can catch up on all the games I wanna play!
@shaddydxd There appears to be an issue with the current profile process, as there is an issue with my exported .rzp profiles being 'corrupt'. I've contacted Razer, and they're stumped. If ya'll can test on your end - simply export one of your own profiles and try to reimport it, and let me know if there's an issue. Trying to sort out if this is my install, or a problem with the profile software. But once I have it sorted, will def make updated Nostro profiles available.
@Grendalsh Hello there Grendalsh:) I've just exported and imported the test profile, and it worked perfectly. Maybe you're missing some Driver/Firmware updates:)
nothing is perfect; if a human makes a machine then the machine has flaws, but when technology reaches the point where machines make better versions of themselves then the human error will fade slowly.
Is the nostromo software must have? Even you can keybind/macro in wow for your nostromo? I got a mac and nostromo's software does not support mac. But analog stick and all keys work fine. My question is, is the software must have? And I use analog stick and mouse to move and steer, instead of WASD, am I doing it wrong?
The software is required for changing the default keybinds on the Nostro. It CAN be used without the software. Razer said Mac software is due mid Sept.
Using the dpad and mouse for movement is recommended.
I would at least wait til mid Sept for Mac software before buying G13. The Nostro is better hardware.
@Robin16171718 I play using a 5button mouse and the Nostromo,.The Naga does allow more keybinds on the right hand, especially if you use modifiers against the keypad. However, 100+ keybinds with just the Nostro and a 5button mouse is usually plenty. Personally, I'm not a fan of the Naga: cool idea, poor ergonomics. My take is unless you already have a Naga, just go with the Nostro and a comfortable mouse. If Razer made a rightie Nostro with a trackball in place of the dpad, I'd be all over that
@JohnReviewer112 You would create a Macro for that.. Just go to the macro tab, 'new macro', give it a name, then hit the 'record button. just hit keys the same as you would in game.. so 'k blah balh blah' then end the recording, maybe increase the pause between the k and the blah blah.. then in the assign buttons tab, assing it to a button.. viola!
@Grendalsh Hey, nice to know one youtuber responds to their commenters, but when i got it it was pretty easy with watching a swifty video with the notromo review
@M0n3ySt34L3rs It is complex, but not complicated. If you follow my other videos on setting up the n52te (same setup), you should get the hang of it. The setup I show is counter-intuitive until you have it setup and look back on it.. then it makes sense.
@RyTrombs You need to have the Razer Nostromo Configurator software (driver) installed. You can download the 2.0 drivers and firmware from Razer's support website
My d-pad wasn't set to move diagonal. I tried making a macro for e.g. top right = W+D but it doesn't work. It moves forwards, backwards, left and right but not diagonally forwards or backwards. Any ideas?
@Hellsconsort Just to clarify, are you using the Razer Nostromo, or the Belkin n52te? The Nostromo default settings should have diagonals bound. If not, manually select the Dpad SE (Default) value in the profile editor. Let me know if that doesn't work.
If you're using the N52te, disable the diagonals in the profile editor and they'll work as expected.. screwy, but true.
@Grendalsh Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm using a Razer Nostromo. It's definately the newer model, just got it 2 says ago. I actually got it to work now - by using the previous belkin model fix (disable diagonals). Which I found odd seen as every post I've read wrote it was fixed now for the razer model. Fixed anyway. Thanks very much.
@elveerdig It was actually one of 'Grendalsh's' posts on the WoW forums. I can't find the link again sorry but it's literally just in the options. You right click the diagonals symbols and disable them. I actually stopped using my Nostromo and went back to the keyboard. I couldn't get used to/didn't like the feel of it in a few ways and found I kept reaching to type on my regular keyboard anyway when I had to write in guild etc. All the best though, hope it works better for you.
the Dpad STILL sucks, its a Dpad with a thumbstick on it thus not actually being a thumbstick. its stiff and not smoothing making this thing useless for FPS gamers, and i hope they make a version FOR FPS gamers, if they did this would be my next by.
@metaleater9 While the dpad isn't analog, if you're PC gaming, the competition is WASD (digital movement), not analog thumbsticks on a console controller. In this case, the dpad is at least as slick as WASD (more so in my opinion), allowing a natural 8way movement on one digit, vs 4 or 6 way movement using 3 fingers for WASD. I've played FPS games with the Nostromo, and far preferred it to WASD movement. YMMV.
@Grendalsh thumbsticks are actually faster and more precise for movement then wasd, the only issue with it is jumping but other then that the Dpad is useless.
I agree that directional inputs are more precise than WASD. And if you rebind Jump to another button on the Nostromo or on the mouse, you can resolve the issue of the default bindings creatinga conflict between using your thumb on both the dpad and b15 (default Jump binding). I guess until Razer fixes the dpad I'll just keep using it for MMO, RTS, and FPS games.. Too bad it's useless.
@Grendalsh because I don't want to sound like a close minded asshole i will say this.
I only felt this was useless for FPS games, i had used it on my friends Pc and didn't change the control scheme he had so it might have just been his setup but that is what i feel.
I will say it is VERY ergonomic tho, but because I have (4 years) the Wolfking Timberwolf keyboard, i have not used a better keyboard/gamepad better for fps games that don't really benefit from custom binds, check it out.
The Nostromo has drivers for most all Win flavors. Sadly, still no OSX configurator. My machine in the vid is a Win7 x64 rig.
