To say that Muslims shouldn't be divided is partly true, since we need to be united upon the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the prophet 'alayhis-salam.
However, our prophet 'alayhis-salatu was-salam said: "The Christians will divide into 71 sects, the Jews into 72 sects, and the Muslims into 73 sects. All but one will go to the Fire."
It was asked which sect this was, whereupon the prophet salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam answered: "That which I and my companions are upon".
To clarify any confusion that you ignorant ones may have.. This is Herat's main mosque. It is a sunni mosque; about 80% of Heratis are sunni. Shia azan is different than this (sunni) one. Shias have their own small mosques with different azan.
Just speaking architecturally.Having read some comments,it's sad people display much hatred on either side of the fence.This holds people down;often poor folk who have few choices/options that suffer.What a fantastically rich culture,this mosque is a reminder of that and the multicultural civilization that existed.The bickering downgrades this heritage.There's only one God and he loves all.If you follow your faith (whatever that is)with integrity and love for all humanity,that's an achievement.

Come on guyss we al shud don't say no it's suni moske or nO it's a shia mosque that's not the true this is a muslim msoke.. we all are One muslim we shud be proud therefore,, anyway I think there is not diffrent to be a sunii or shia.,,have I even or not?
There is supposingly no division and the Quran recognises no denomination. Its has neither Sunni or shia but MUSLIM. So all those who follow Quran are Muslims. I think if i have a shia friend and he is inviting me to their prayer, i would gladly go and pray as long as i think there isnt a shirk. Shia's and Sunni both have Allah but its just that shia's have given more space for more saints. We can always abide in peace and also stay together. Allah bless. Amen.
It's a Shia mosque in Herat near the Iran border. But we should not divide ourselfs in to different groups yet help others and guide them to the right path of ISLAM.

I know, it was such a beautiful place, one of my favorite mosques that I've visited, and this muezzin was one of the best I've heard... his voice echoes through the entire city and it's gorgeous.
the sound is the sunni muslim call for prayer, where the oneness of God is affirmed, His greatness is proclaimed, Muhammed[saws] prophethood is acknowledged, and the obligatory prayer referred as success/means of salvation is reminded and the faithful are asked to attend for its offering.
