This is an amzing video that comes the closest to capturing the experience. I have been watching the skaters for years now. They always make me smile. They are talented, fun, wild and a bit crazy. It's the essence of NYC skating around in Central Park. This summer I am joining in...i have been sitting on the sidelines too long. I want to have fun too! :)

That clip is a snippet of an hour long video I donated to the Central Park Dance Skater Association. I put a lot of work into that and have since figured out how to make it clearer on youtube but too late for that one.. When you are in New York and you really come to the skate circle you will truly find that you will be loved and helped as an awkward beginner.

I skated quad in the 80s, but my foot and 6'8" frame grew too large, trying now to raise money for some skates. in due time, we will be back. quite truely the real "summer madness". only in NY!

The Son of the Late Great "Dr. Skatemore" Randy Higginson. I see alot of peole I know from the park. Kevin on his Hover round. Felix crisscrossing the water bottle. Bladie. Linae and the other girls. Can't seem to find any video with myself in it. Still searching.

I'm sure I have you on something to come if not already. Keep looking. I try to get everyone. As I post more vids I learn the tricks so they look clearer. Youtube brutally compresses them but I understand the problem of storage so we learn to give it to them in the best way to see them clearer. This one is before I learned the tricks. Ha.
Thanks for posting the dates and places. I'm sure that that area is the biggest attraction in the park. Thousands watch even in weather that is not perfect.
NYC skaters circle is mid-April-end of October, 3-6:30 pm weekends & holidays, immediately followed by the deep house after-party at 7 pm, about 30 yards away along the same road.
During the winter season November - March, the after-party starts at 3 pm, as long as the temperature's 55 degrees or above & sunny.
April-October there are also two drum circles nearby, 5 pm until 10 pm.
Enter Central park at east or west 72nd street & walk towards the middle of the park, near the Bandshell.

I bought my first pair of skates in Brooklyn -- Skated across the bridge and into the park back in 1981 ---- been skating ever since.
