This helped sooo much! Me and my brother and his friend are all testing for out 5th Kyu in Aikido, (even though I am only nine lol) because we go to adult class. So, anyway, thank you sooo much!
I have a question ....I've been studying aikido from the line of Saotome Sensei for a while and I'm tired of these drills of one finger, and these silly things instead of focusing more on the real aspects of self defense...is all Aikido like that or is just the school I am practicing? Thanks!
@H4I2I2EE I'm referring to these drills, that you control your oponent with one finger, I dont remeber the name of it. But my point is that I've seen these drills that seem so pointless and ridiculous, and SO UNPRACTICAL ...but I still like the basic drills that you learn for the tests, an dI was wondering if there would schools that focus more on basic drills than these ...call them advanced/abstract or silly ones, I dont want to sound dsirespectful that's how I feel.
@JohnLennon100 I don't know but in the style I practice I haven't learned such drills yet. That sounds to me sorta like what they do in small circle Jujutsu. You ever heard of that Wally Jay guy? Having said that, I have trained with certain black belts that grab your fingers to control you and it hurts like hell.
@H4I2I2EE yes ,same here-and been knocked out *#times as well as knocked out ppl..my style was ryu kyu kempo a mma.since 1992-.i just love this stuff:)
i don't know anyone that would come up behind somebody and grab their wrists, if anything they're gonna try and choke you out, or pull down you pants and rape that ass
I practice this technique short rsnge,vs resistance...very similar to wrestlers judoka and with my boxing, bare knuckle kenpo Muay Thai kali hapkido and capoeira strikes, rolls, footwork, etc. added in. Believe it or not, this practice is very safe and effective and I deeply appreciate this technique all the more. Thank you for the vid.
I'm not sure about the Ushiro part (in my practice, we believe that hands behind one's tori means his imminent death) but I'm glad to finally see a nice Kotegaeshi correctly executed.
About the polite thing: It is one thing to break your opponent's wrist, it is another to break the friend's with whom you're sparing.
Also twisting the wrist outward proves to be inneffective as you only break the wrist instead of killing the opponent (of course there is a little to add at the end to kill)
Anyone care to tell me why my post was removed (in a respectfull fashion please). I didn't think I was offensive in my post... just expressing my opinion. If anyone felt bad about my post, please do so... I'm not a bad person...(well I think)
@yourcauseofdeath :-) No, you don't HAVE to be polite, but aikido tries to promote the neutralising of aggression. If you break the other guy's wrist then this doesn't quite fit the brief! Believe it or not, kote geishi can be an excruciatingly painful and effective control technique without having to resort to breaking the guys wrist. By compressing the wrist joint, locking the wrist, elbow and shoulder, you don't need to do anything else - the biomechanics of the body wil do it all.
Man...I don't understand all this fucking arguing about different styles of martial arts or modern martial arts. I prefer BJJ, but like the guy said that you need to learn your stand up as well. Didn't Bruce Lee taught you guys anything? Bruce Lee always said that you should go and train to different martial arts, and keep the techniques that work and leave the ones that don't work...and mixed all the arts together. If I had the money and time, I would do all the martial arts .
@D0wn82 jujitsu was one of the most complete martial art back in the old days but now they stripped it of so many things. For example , BJJ , judo and aikido all come from jujitsu. And it also involves striking as well. But u are right nowadays you have to learn all different martial arts
Without having the choice of whether or not to maime or kill your attacker, you cannot grow spiritually. Aikido gives you the option to do either. He's demonstrating the gentlest takedown possible. You aren't required to do the same.
well in my personal opinion aikido some times is good but sometimes these techniques are not easier on a real fight in a real fight you need to be fast against your opponent this tecnnique in special not help much, but like I told is my personal opinion the best martial art is SAMBO
Yes. SAMBO, the Russian judo KNOCKOFF, is the BESTEST THING EVAR!!!1!!1!one!!
Honestly, most modern SAMBO focuses on ground fighting almost exclusively. Its good to know how to fight if it goes to the ground, but you should know how to fight standing as well.
For that matter, its highly debatable whether or not you should go to the ground in a self defense situation, if you can possibly avoid it.
some part of the technique are impractical. it s not that easy to escape from being locked by that way, in a real fight, the opponent would hold so tightly and can even kick when he turns round to escape
Many murders, particularly one perpetrated by unarmed attackers, were committed by people who "didn't mean to kill" their victims. By all means, if there is an escalating situation where someone is becoming more and more belligerent, swallow your pride and try to calm them down.
But the moment that they attack you, the moment they cross a certain line, they are inherently giving you permission to use force against them. It is a law of nature, and to deny that is to deny reality.
Of course, anyone who disagrees with you is merely "denying reality." Aikido is not, primarily, about using force. We are talking about Aikido here. If you want to talk about being in denial, then claiming that using force is the only way to protect yourself is denying Aikido. In case you didn't notice, the above video is of Aikido.
The amount of force used must be appropriate . If someone slapped you on the cheek, a knifehand strike to the throat would not be an appropriate response.
That said, I strongly believe that the amount of force you apply should be the minimum amount possible to subdue an attacker. If that means pain submission techniques, then great. However, if you are facing someone who will not stop until either you or he is incapacitated, then I fail to see how breaking his wrist is somehow morally wrong.
I honestly believe if someone attacks you, you need to incapacitate them. If that means breaks a bone to end the fight, so be it. However if I believe someone is trying to kill me, I'll resort to a firearm to defend myself.
Wow! This video really clarified this technique for me. I learned this before, but this answered questions that I have had! Thanks again for a great video!!! God bless...Peace
Okay I understand not breaking your partner's wrist. But if your attacked in real life all bet's are off. I expect to here a crunch and I'm not talking nestle.

I love this art form, small movements become throws, and its all about submission rather than trying to knock someones head off.
Every time i watch it I am amazed at the grace of it all, I just keep thinking, wow that guy just got dominated.

If the uke knows how to breakfall, it is more effective to push the wrist to the outside.
BenLi159357 2 years ago
Sometimes true, but remember, if you push the wrist to the outside and uke is flexible, he has a reversal to come around behind you for iriminage.
