  • I'm thinking of making one myself, and it has to have a rocket shape kind of thing around it to minimize the resistance and the drag.

I'm curious about how fast such a thing be, just gotta find out.

If my calculations are right, it should reach something like 62 mph/ 100 km/h easily because the lack of resistance.

It would be even more handy in combination with electric wheels uphills that can recharge when downhills and a solar panel to add even more flexibility.

All the way and beyond :)

  • Recumbent bicycles were banned from the tour de france because they were too fast and were winning everything. They thought it was unfair to people who rode upright bikes so they banned them.

  • Basically bikes

  • Hey, I have a Human-Powered Vehicle myself. It is called a bicycle.

  • I own an Alleweder velomobil. I bike it to work and back. 40 km a day. Absolutely effortless and enjoyable.

  • 0:06. Dear Santa..

  • I've seen one of these bad boys on the street. The guy had a shell around the bike like a skinny bobsled. The thing was FAST! Judging from the speed of my car he was doing 70 km/h

Do these cyclists have to pay a fine for speeding?

  • @ThePantyDroper

Yes, they have to pay for speeding. I they are caught ^_^

  • if human powered bikes can reach this kind of speed, the speed limit for freeways can be a bit higher

  • talk about neck pain

  • One-Hour World Record - Francesco Russo & Eiviestretto - 91,556km

    .

is a video of the current hour record

  • 0:20 ...Warren Beauchamp?

  • Human powered vehicles? Just fancy bikes...

  • 0:14 wtf

  • Some of the people commenting on this site clearly dont know anything. The upright bicycle is not the most efficient HPV due to areodynamics. Most of these vehicles will be faster the Lance Armstrong's bicycle. Time to think outside the square, and use your brians before making idiotic comments.

  • @KrunchyJD

You need to take more inot account than aerodynamics when designing a bicycle. Such as weight, body position and centre of gravity.

Some of the vehicles may be better aerodynamically, and may very well be capable of a higher maximum speed, but I doubt they'd be any better if at all in the tour de france race (probably alot worse).

  • @dissinitbig If that is the case, then tell me why recumbent bicycles were banned from racing in the Tour de France in the 1930's when they won the rac?. They are still banned.

If it is true that upright road bikes are the quickest why are race organisers and bodies who set these rules not open to testing this hypothesis.

Sure I accept that there is more to it then top speed, but it is true that some of these vehicles are all around faster.

  • @KrunchyJD

I have found no reference to recumbent bicycles winning. Rule changes were made due to the poor state of the rules across the board.

Rules are set up for many reasons. Sometimes to limit the capability of equipment, out of tradition, because the risks of new designs are unknown etc.

What do cyclists do when sprinting/going uphill? They use their weight, can't be done on a recumbent vehicle.

  • @dissinitbig Recumbent riders did win before recumbents were banned.

When people run HPV races, where you can ride in or on any vehicle (safety rules apply) so long as it is powered by you, hence the acronym Human Powered Vehicle, few ride conventional upright bikes. Check multiple speed comparisons. You will find the fastest road going HPV's are probably velomobiles, followed by recumbent bicycles, and then there is a toss up between race bikes and recumbent trikes.

  • @KrunchyJD am i the only one one who see the word "Brians" O_O!

  • why do people where lycra its soo gay

  • @ xKiwiGamerx

Wind resistance is important when you are going fast on a bike. Lycra can reduce wind resistance

  • 0:28 roflmao

  • @ftutbs pmsl! too

  • @ftutbs I nearly died laughing watching that. :-)

  • you mean bikes....dont you....

  • i thought they were cat powered... good thing the title says human powered

  • I'm with 777doom! Way too much effort! Not enough return.Think outside the box!

All this crap is stuck in the Wright Bros.Bike Shop. Einstein said,"Imagination is more important than knowledge".Imagine 4, 7 ft. wheels 4-5 ft. sprockets & 10- 12 ft pedal cranks. Now, let it rock-let it roll. We're way to retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah because they were blatently going at 130km/h.

  • I am no engineer but for years I have been thinking about (no, this is not a joke and I am not insane) a one seater vehicle powered with 4 (or more) huge oil can sized drums with high tension wind-up spring coils inside (like the wind up drum in an old victrola or music box). Initially it would have to have all the drum springs wound up with a mechanical or electrical cranking device. It would be geared so the drums would re-wind themselves when car is in motion or coasting..is this possible?

  • wtf they are all just retarded bicycles

  • @777doom

Yeah, it really is retarded to fly along with 130km/h just with your own muscle power. Now go back to your Matchbox SUV, idiotic kid.

  • @777doom WTF its just another retarded, ignorant pre-adolescent under the delusion that he knows something...

  • @777doom lol you're smart

  • Please watch:

THE WORLD'S SIMPLEST TRANSMISSION for BICYCLE

  • And all of these are stupidly expensive! ^^

  • AussiNut probably pissed himself because his prostate is in such bad shape. It's called exercise NumbAussiNuts.

  • LMFAO as if you have to educate me on exercise & we realy have had a good laugh at how you react to a comment with your pathetic gay slurs fucking grow up little boy

  • i love the very first bike whats it called

  • @royboy78501

Its a homebuilt recumbent bike, made by the gentlemen riding it. He built it out of carbon fiber. Very fast, very light. The technical term would be lowracer recumbent.

  • velokraft no com

  • Cool... I love some of the shells... so sleek. My Human Powered Vehicle of choice is my Wilderness Systems Pamlico 140 sea kayak.

  • LMFAO what's this some friggin bike circus ?? I pissed myself laughing at the fat lady in pink pulling up with a skid lmao CLASSIC

  • hahaha!! no its all about the guy at 00:15! what a beast with his lie-down bike, he must get all the girls, pure comedy lol

  • @marsupialbeige

Probably, and he is fast too, driving to the the next.

You actually don't get it, do you, about going faster by reducing drag?

  • @sablatnic lol wow i made that comment 2 years ago! but what i said still stands..

Don't worry mate, i GET it ( if you mean the drag) it's just that it means.. well jack shit. You mean if i buy one of these I can be the fastest guy looking like a total pole on two wheels? sign me up!!

  • July 17-19, 2009, these vehicles are coming to the Ford Proving Grounds in Romeo to try for world speed records. Speeds should be in the 50 to 65 mph range for the fastest vehicles. All of the footage shown here was of the bikes going slow for the cameras.
