  • This is what real football is, every kid who dreams of being a professional athlete should watch Earl Campbell highlights because he shows the true meaning of never quitting or giving up on anything. You would never see a guy nowadays take hits like that and keep going because his team depended on him. It's all about money and fame now but with Earl it was about winning and never giving up. His strength and determination are a lesson for everyone on how they should live their lives.

  • Its like, dude you guys used to watch film on the guy before you played against him? And you see he will run your ass over if you try to go head up with him. I guess they didn't submarine motherfuckers back then. Cut his legs at 100 miles an hour, he ain't going anywhere. But god damn Earl Campbell was a straight up Monster! Too sick!

  • I would act like a slipped and fell if I ever saw EC come at me one on one!! I use to love those tear away jersey they use to have back in the days!!

  • All we need to see if the play where Earl godplows a defender and he FLIES back 5 yards in the air!

  • earl campbell is my favorite running back of all time

  • the Tyler Rose is a Legend

  • Jesus. Dude's jersey just blows off at 5:06

  • @5:00 that was the best play i've ever seen... period this is how football is supposed to be play

  • the oilers trained at angelo state univ.when i went there and i got to watch this guy work out. he was shorter than i thought he would be but he was a block of muscle. angelo state had guys his size playing linebacker so i wondered what made him so special. the agility drills left no doubt. it was like watching a tape that had been speeded up. there should be no way a 230 lb. man could move like that. at least he could have acted like it was difficult!

  • I know six people who don't know dick about football!

  • @Lar24man Nah my friend those six people must be sooner fans. :)

  • hes awsome all the time

  • HIS JERSEY CAME OFF HOLY FUCK

  • where is the sound

  • @ 5:05, one of the greatest truckings in the history of NFL football. #58 - Jim Youngblood, LB - Los Angeles Rams, was the recipient of that bone shattering helmet to chest BLASTING by big Earl Campbell.

  • @ectigers83 I THINK this may have been 1982... Jim Youngblood was #53. #58 was a rookie from Michigan, Mel Owens. #85, Jack Youngblood, finished off the hit on #58 after the hit by Earl.....that was sweet....

  • @ectigers83 is that legal anymore?

  • @ectigers83 Thats Isiah Robertson

  • @2:45 Exactly what was that guy thinking?

  • @Tampa0123456789 running over you

  • I love Barry Sanders but, I would rather defend against him than Earl, because Barry could make you look silly by making you miss, but with Earl, you did'nt know if he was going to make you miss, or run you over. And like Barry, he was faaast.

  • Amazing, one of the best ever!!

  • My favorite back...period! He was poetry in motion.

  • Wait is Earl on the Defense also?

  • @rjc0l3... he played on special teams, returning and also on the line for punts and actually blocked two I can recall. There's a videos on here with one of the blocks.

  • @bluNblu hey if u know where that is plz show me. theres on with his brother though, not him on and blocks the punt.

  • @rjc0l3 I don't know what happened to that particular video... can't find it now. I believe it was from his freashman year... if you know how some coaches put talented players in different situations to see how they do. It was like that and surprised everyone... Earl going in on special teams??? Kick returns is obvious for running backs and recievers but on the line??? If I run across that video again I'll let you know.

  • @rjc0l3 Look up Earl Highlights by trivinity. The second play shows Earl highligthed in middle of line other team punting. The center breaks out to pick up an outside rusher... guess they thought Earl was a decoy. Anyway, he blocks the punt.

  • @rjc0l3 My bad.. the center actually does nothing... the left side up back peels out.

  • He is the best thats ever been. Every safeties worst nightmare

  • barry sanders was da best runnin bac ever

  • Brandon Jacobs? Lmao...Please...He couldn't hold Earl's helmet...In the same discussion with Earl Campbell? You are obviously a NYG fan lmao....keep deluding yourself he won't even be in the league in a couple years, just wait and see

  • Best power back ever and in my opinion 2nd best runing back period (barry sanders 1st)

This man right here is why im proud to be texan

  • "Earl Campbell is the greatest player that ever suited up. Hes the greatest football player Ive ever seen." - Barry Switzer

  • BETTER THAN JIM BROWN?

  • yes, better than Jim Brown.

  • Earl Campbell was amazing and his condition saddens me but Maurice

jones-drew is a great tough running back and unlike brandon Jacobs, he has speed too

  • I was a student @ UT the same time as Earl. He redefined the notion of a power runner, not just size and strength but speed. His first two years he was the fastest member of the Longhorn team. He is also as fine of an example of a man as there is. His current health struggles sadden me and I wish him many pain-free days in the years to come.

  • @hairyhandedgent

sadly, there is a price for being great. those legs once as strong as a grizzly are jelly and the man fast as a leopard can barely move an inch. im too young to know earl and see him play. but even tho im 22, he is imo the greatest back of all time. i watch all his old games that i can find. unfortunately all good things must come to an end, except one thing. his legacy, this man left an unforgettable mark on football. and he will be loved; we love you earl. god bless you...

  • @jaw1987cchs i agree. i am 24 years old and i was to young to have watched him to. but my dad use to always talk about earl campbell and he actually saw him play once and said it was amazing. it is great that i can actually go back and watch him play. thats why i love youtube. i can actually see all the plays my dad would tell me about. especially the hit jack tatum put on earl.... that was unreal.

  • he's in a wheelchair now

  • i wish i was alive to see this guy play. he was a beast. sadly, i have heard stories that he has trouble walking now.

  • Earl Campbell Da Best! nuff said!

  • Comment removed

  • its really sad to see him now. the way he ran was amazing. its too bad it made him end up the way he is

  • earl cambell =best power back

barry sanders = best scat back

    NO ONE CAN DISAGREE

the only person who comes close to earl is brandon jacobs hes a beast

  • I disagree with the statement about Jacobs. Marion Barber has the most break tackles since entering the league of all running backs.

  • earls close

    jim brown is first

  • damn straight!!!!

  • Walter Payton = best all-around back

You could argue Jim Brown is up there with Earl.

  • jim brown was the best

  • Comment removed

  • brandon jacobs sucks dick, sorry to say it. hes so fuckin slow earl actually had speed and adrian peterson hits harder than him anyway

  • westbrook = 2nd best scat back

  • earl is the greatest running back of all time....

  • i agree 100%

  • No back will ever be quite like him.

    Maybe for the best!

He was TOO beastly! His career was cut short and now he can hardly walk and needs to use a wheelchair alot.

Love his running style, but guess that was the price to pay

  • I agree, To this day only Bo Jackson could be on the same field.

The Monday night game against the Dolphins where he had 275yds rushing is top 3 games ever for me.

Dolphins 31 Oilers 3 at half time.

    Dolphins 31 Oilers 34 final.

  • I feel bad for whoever had to try to tackle earl. Cause you know that they got ran over. Earl has big ass legs too one of his legs is both of mine together hes more than just a running back hes a beast.

  • Ahhh, the Wishbone T, a beautiful offense to watch. Hook em. Luv ya Blue.

  • Haha 0:18

  • Number 58 for the rams died at the 5.05 mark! R.I.P #58

  • he didnt die... at least not on that play.

  • What a RB. Earl had a spot picked out he was going to run to. God help the defender if he decided to be in that same spot.

  • Until he started to break down after a few years he was crazy fast, especially for his size. For a few years he was the best back ever. If you had to pick one back for one game in his prime many people would pick Earl Campbell.

  • An amazing athlete. Ask Isaiah Robertson of the Rams. Earl ran right over the top of him and laid him out flat. Almost never could one guy bring him down.

  • watching these highlights it seems like earl was pretty fast. this is in regular speed and he's not slow. not saying he belongs in the top ten with the fastest just saying he does seem to have speed.

  • who was more powerful Bo Jackson or Earl?

  • i'd say earl.

  • Are U serious? Earl was a beast. He ran completely over Isaiah Robertson of the Rams. Laid him out flat.

  • Who is the poor Rams linebacker who gets blown up at 5:04? Anybody know? He must still have that dent in his chest!

  • Six time Pro Bowler Isiah Robertson.

  • I believe the run at 1:44 tells/shows you everything you need to know.

  • Earl Campbell, Jerome Bettis, men among boys.

  • Amen

  • One thing I noticed is that he could change direction and juke you not just run through you. That part of his game is underated (the juking part of course).

  • Man,Earl was a BEAST. I'm a lifelong diehard Cowboy fan but I am a fan of the game and a real fan respects greatness and Earl was great. Sad that he wore down but man he was punishing while he lasted.

  • 1:30 I think he hurt some one on the side line and he hurt his self

  • Jack Tatum vs Earl Cambell at 5:16. Epic match up!

  • lol true thattt....

  • its what happens when the unstoppable force hits the immovable object :P

  • Whew...people in the stands said the sound when they hit sounded like two cars crashes...ouch. Two real men there buddy.

  • Seriously though! What must have Tatum been thinking? Anybody else he would have laid out cold with a hit like that.

  • 5:01 greatest hit of all time

  • maurice jones drew is on the uprise

  • Stud, stud, stud..unreal

  • It looks like people didnt even want to tackle him. They just dove at his feet and hoped for the best.

  • Seems the only guy who could tackle him was the guy past the endzone at 1:30

  • They don't make them like this anymore! The only two backs that come close today is LT and AP...and that Giants RB #27. I forget. But the rest are jukers looking for the big break aways and are two inconsistent because of it. It's like Babe Ruth, he was the Home Run King but also the Strike Out King too! Get the tough yards, first downs not the long TD's. Players like that put their teams in bad situations. I rather have the consistent backs. Better for the team.

  • #27 is Brandon Jacobs

  • the downside with being a "consistent" back is that you will suffer from debilitating back pain the rest of your life

  • What a freakin' warrior. It's a little scarry how he holds the ball sometimes. Bet his coaches threw fits about it. But how can you argue with the end result?

  • haha true

  • What a lot of the young running backs don't realize is that being a power running back has very little to do with upper body strength. Earl Campbell had 34" thighs which is the main reason why he could run people over. Another thing that is important is his feet were always moving. If you watch his legs they never stop moving. That's what makes a great running back. I would recommend any high school coach to show their backs Earl Campbell footage and put emphasis on how he kept his feet moving

  • @DayneTrain14 ... you're right about the leg strength. I wasn't very big, 175 lbs but I could leg press 1,000 lbs... and I was one of the toughest backs to bring down. The upper body strength is important also but i believe it was my leg strength that made me the back I was. Use to freak out linemen and line backers that though I was going to be an easy take down... BOOM!!! not.

  • Ridiculous ability. The Tyler Rose was the total package

  • :40 hes got some speeeed

  • The pad shredding at 5:15 was amazing. He was one sick running back.

  • super speed

    super power

    awesome moves

if not in the top 10 speed RBs he is with out a doubt top 10 power backs

  • He is the best mayan...

    He deed it...

  • he's one of the only running backs i've seen literally carry someone into the endzone. he could be a o-lineman if he wanted.

  • well he is a amazing runner, i just ate some of earl campbell's hotlinks they are awesome too

  • He was great one. It is a testament to the skill and determination of the Pittsburgh Steeler`s defense that they were sometimes able to stop him. Of course, it took the entire defensive team to do that!

  • Nice vid earl Campbell is the best running back ever

  • oh my GAWD at 5:05-5:15!

  • great video, really showcases both the power and finese of campbell. he could juke you out of your shoes and bowl your ass over.

  • LOl word man

  • He was so punishing you forget the SPEED the man had. ANd moves too.

  • very well said

  • this crazy fucker had a lineman facemask i noticed that

  • what is the name of the song? great tune :D

  • i think its lou reed's experimental hit "six 37 of silence" still the runs are great.

  • earl campbell is probabley one of the best RB's in college football and possibly ever. he has crazy legs. lol but he was an insane Running Back

  • A great runner but the way he holds that ball out would probably drive any coach insane.

  • he's my all time favorite Longhorn.

  • Many do not know Earl was a great Linebacker. Earl covered the field from sideline to sideline. He knocked out a many of players on defense. He was a Linebacker at Dogan Jr High, Moore Jr High and John Tyler High School. We enjoyed Earl's as the best Running Back from his Junior High School days thru his years as a Pro. He has always been exciting to watch and play with. A wonderful man and friend.

  • The Tyler Rose, thanks for the memories Earl we love you. (John Tyler High 73/74) Go Lions!

    James & Kathy Young

  • Earl was very very good but I think Walter Payton was better

  • earl was awesome and he is still the only back ever to rush for 200 or more yards in a game 4 times in a single season not barry ,walter ,or jim can say that, and lets face it the iolers were horrible they made the playoffs only because off big bad earl.

  • Earl Campbell was one of the best RBs ever. I wonder if ever fumbled a lot because of how he would hold the football out there with one hand. Seems to me being the great runner that he is he should secure the ball.

  • interesting that you bring up the fumble issue because he did have a problem with that... it was one of the few weaknesses he had... despite that, he was an insane running back...

  • wow...it wasn't until i watched the clip 10 times in a row at 5:17 that i noticed Earl actually throw the guy off of him, then stumbled trying to keep his footing so the defender couldnt grab him...notice how he tries.

  • 5:05 daaaaaaamn

  • Keep in mind that that's an All-Pro linebacker. =]

  • man, there will never be another Earl ...gave new meaning to the term "keep on trucking" too bad backs these days dont understand ITS ALL IN THE LEGS!

  • Remember a MNF in 1978 where Lambert couldn't tackle him on a goal line play

  • this vid would be better with music.

But still gotta love Earl, favorite RB ever and best EVER!!

  • at 5:17 a normal human being couldnt have withstood that hit and still made it going forward.

  • AmazinBlue34: And that would be a Hall-of-Fame safety, Jack Tatum, who wrote a book entitled "They call me Assassin." He was slightly good =]

  • 5:19 holy shit

  • look at 5:00.........WOW

  • his fullback i think is dead at 0:38...

  • hahahhahhahahhaha

  • The run when he takes the guy out and then runs out of his jersey is the best run in NFL history!

  • that sounds good but i remember the run where barry sanders gave rod woodson a juke move that was so sick that he tore up his ACL hahahahahhaha

  • AWESOME!!!! (DATZ ALL I HAVE 2 SAY!) But all that hittin really took its toll on Earl. He can barely walk now and he is only in his 50s!

  • great video

    '

how bout HOFer Donnie Shell #31 of the Steeler Dynasty of the 70's taking a 15 yard ride trying to tackle Earl?

And the classic Jack Tatum hit at the goal line.

Of course Tatum got him down, but Earl kept moving forward somehow and got the TD

A regular human running back woulda been decapitated, when it came to those vicious helmet to helmet hits, Tatum was a walking nightmare...

    but #34 kept going

  • I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A RUNNIG BACK

  • MAN...i didnt kno dat Earl could move like dat..I thought dat he jus ran ppl ova....he had some speed and some moves on em too

  • wow...

  • hooorrray !!! 5 star video.. i'd pay 10 grand for one of those ripped of # 34 jerzies.. what a class act .. humble, gracious, all around great guy... no beating of his chest saying "look at me".. tough man .. obviously raised by a wonderful mother.. miss you earl!!

  • No way I'm tackling him at those big ole thighs. The Tyler Rose!!!

  • WAR HORSE. Earl, you are scary.

  • im a charger fan and love L.T but got dammn he was a BEAST!!!

  • Guy was a beast..

  • Being a fullback, I always tried to play my game like Earl. For 5'9 I can run some pretty big guys over.. makes you feel like a BA. Earl Campbell was THEE BadAss .. no doubt.

He says GET OUT MY WAY HO

  • Man...for a guy who's known for simply obliterating defenders, these clips show that Campbell had a great deal of agility and quickness for a big guy. His game was a lot more multifaceted than people give him credit for.

  • That fullback did take a wallop at 0:40. Wish more video of Earl would show up there are plenty other amazing runs.

  • I'm fairly certain his fullback died at 0:40.

  • hahahaha good call

  • 5:17, normal humans should be out cold after that. favorite all time rb hands down

  • maybe he will pull a brett farve and come out of retirement

  • pretty safe to say he raped faces eh?

  • Man that one clip of him destroying that guy, and then running through the rest of them as his tear away jersey is falling to peices, never gets old.

  • Yeah thats cool cus no one could take him down because of his size and those "Kleenex" jerseys

  • It amazes me to see someone so powerful outrun so many defenders.

Anyone else agree that it seems like closer the camera is the scarier he looks when he runs??? I would hate to tackle him.

I met him once when he had a bbq restaurant in Austin. Hes still a big guy, but its kinda sad because even when I saw him he was walking alright but it wasn't normal. It didn't look like too comfortable.

  • Yeah, he owns a BBQ place in Tyler now, I met him a couple years ago, he's a real nice guy, but it was weird to see him move with so much difficulty when he used to be able to run so well.

  • Earl campbell, walter payton and barry sanders are the best running backs.

  • I agree with you entirely but you forgot Jim Brown

  • Jim Brown was in the era of "Da Arm Tackle" Oh! an you forgot Eric Dickerson!! 6,2 world class srpinter with power - doesnt get any better!

  • I agree. Also, when looking at lower body strength, Roger Craig deserves a nod. He would knock dudes out with his knees and thighs, maybe shoulda tried MMA LOL!

  • My favorite running back in the history of football

  • It's like watching a human being trying to stop an 18 wheeler.

  • a man to look up too when playing football and yes there is no such thing as perfect but there is close to it and earl was the closest to it when it came to running back

  • Earl is American Football strongest runner and Jonah Lomu is rugby's

  • He is one of tough son of a bitch

  • earls the best

  • Standing in front of Earl Campbell is like standing in front of a full speed freight train.

  • Marion Barber is the closest thing to Earl we have in the NFL right now. But, still Marion is no were close to Earl.

  • earl is one of my fav's but e played 8 seasons and barry played 10 and he had over 15,000 yds so obviously hes the greatest

  • the greatest of all time

  • Some audio would be nice!!

  • 1. Bo would of been the best ever and 2. if u saw earl in street clothes you would never think he could run that fast 4 is size

  • NO ONE DID IT BETTER THEN BO JACKSON

  • Earl was what BO could have perhaps been. Bo was faster however earl was more explosive and powerful.

  • I really think he was the BEST runningback of all time. THE BEST, i know how much that can be argued b/c there are so many legends that can be compared, but this guys is def. always top 2 or 3.

  • HAHA Owned At 5:05 LMFAO

  • That was his infamous hit on LB Isaiah Robertson in 1978. Before that hit, he was a 6-time Pro Bowler and 2-time 1st-Team All-Pro; he still played four more seasons, but he was never quite the same afterward.

Earl was asked about that hit by Bob Costas and he said he really doesn't like talking about it and regrets doing it because it so adversely altered Robertson, maybe not physically, but mentally.
