VL turbo is a turbo Holden Commodore. Commodores in Australia is the Pontiac in the USA. VL is just the generation name for this particular commodore. VL is a pretty old type of commodore. For instance the current Pontiac you see in the USA would either be a VE or VF Commodore in Australia. Have said that, the VL turbo's engine isn't truly a product of Holden or GM for that matter. It runs an RB30ET Nissan motor or the RB30E for the NA model. Both of them with single OHC.
