This music is not Emperor Rosko's theme tune, this theme belongs to Dave Lee Travis. Rosko's theme was Lonnie Macks Memphis, As a pirate radio listener from the start I know. Sorry
Did you know this was also intended for the abortive Teenage Opera project? There's a terrific CD with most of the music and songs that would have featured.
My memory must be fading, I thought Dave Lee Travis plaed out with this.Never mind I did manage to have a drink with Emperor Rosko in Mancester after a lunchtime "Radio One Show" at New Century Hall, Manchester.Stuart Henry and Ed Stewart were also with him. What memories this goes onto stir.Thanks.
Remember this sound played on 'Radio Caroline' south. Seemed perfect for the fleet in the North Sea. For me, only a few singles were perfect for the 'romantic' pirate radio ships. . . .this is 1 of 'em. Great sound in stereo, but the 'romantic' effect wasn't there when I played it on the Beeb in later years. Thank you for posting.
LOVE the STEREO!!! It makes a world of difference in this song. Grab yourself a pair of 'phones' and trip back to the groovy sixties. Love Ron Grainer's version, but this one absolutely tops it! This instrumental SERIOUSLY ROCKS. Thanks ever so much for posting it! Makes me want a Red Jaguar XKE Convertible, grab my mini-skirted honey, and my touring cap, and ride off into the sunset!!! TWO THUMBS UP!!
I knew it! Couldn't find my 45 so I bought a CD with this on it and it sounded just plain different. I reckon the CDs got one of the other versions on it...
Classic stuff, remember UK DJ Emperor Rosko using this as his theme music. Also remember a version by Ron Grainer making the outskirts of the UK chart with this back in the late 70's.
BRILLIANT - thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
@RadioBazterd I went to see Emperor Rosko at a road show in Middlesbrough around '69. I took a rare Soul 45 with me and asked him to play it. He said "No but I'll break it for you"! Luckily he didn't because it's worth a lot more now!
As Robismad pointed out, it was DLT's theme on Radio Caroline South on 259. And, Rosko was not a UK DJ, he is American.

Great song. Backing singers were The Ladybirds I think. DLT did use this as his sign off music. Still a good tune to sign off with,

@jerrylefever yes, you're right. The Ladybirds did the back voices
