I've had success torching/melting glass with propane torches then shoving it into sytrafoam. It keeps our coffee warm! Did you know strafoam has a 50 year life at the dump? Maybe it's 500 years. You want control over the burn/melt of the glass to tweek it into whatever you want and then you need to know how to anneal the glass effectively. I'd rather live on the cheap, or make my own, Look over here: Homemade Foundry Furnace. <= That's what I'M talking about!
@mrg00ddude -Been there tried that, doesnt work, the cooling from 1400 to 500 is the critical part. They just crack in the oven. Bought a kiln, its easy now!

put in your oven at 500 then gradually cool it
