  • The girl didn't seem like she enjoyed the vegemite xD

  • 0:51 GOT ENOUGH VEGEMITE THERE KIDDO?!?!

  • Best stuff ever ^^

  • today i was at the store and i discovered this stuff next to the nutella. i got the nutella.

  • I only like a thin layer on toast, that's all I can handle. At first I thought it was Hazelnut spread, but will not make that mistake again.

  • This makes

E want to go eat some vegemite on toast. :))

  • 0:49 that is waaaaaaay to much

  • @FreestylaBoy no way, thats how i have it.

  • For the aussie :)

  • cute =)

  • I love how it sounds like they are saying VEGE-A-MITE.

    I say VEGE-EE-MITE

  • I remember trying Marmite when I was about 10 years old. Yuck. Vegemite and grilled cheese for me.

  • im scared

  • this advert and song has been engraved into all Australians living in the 50s and 60s. I often sing it to my English friends who find it hilarious. This spread was something every Ossie kid ate at breakfast or any other time. I ate cucumber and Vegemite sarnies while watching the queen when she visited Australia in 1954. Vegemite forever. Marmite yuk!

  • @grannybrenny Marmite is awesome. But Vegemite is better than my dog.

  • I love vegemite mmm yummy i having vegemite on toast right now. :)

  • I swear I hear Lisa Simpsons voice among the singers.

  • @athenasatanjesus hahaha

  • Toasted white bread, a layer of real butter then a layer of vegemite, it puts a rose on my cheek.

  • To me vegimite tasted like ocean water and yeast. I had it on wheat toast spread thin. I am sure though there are tasty ways to incorporate vegimite into a good food.

  • If you want to get technical, preserves come in typically three types:

jelly - has no fruit solids or seeds, it should be just gel.

jam - has fruit, but no seeds, or only small pieces of fruit

preserves - has whole/mashed fruit, seed and all (assuming the seeds are edible, like strawberries.)

Obviously that doesn't apply to all fruit preserves, but things like strawberry, blueberry, grape it's usually pretty accurate.

  • ahhh. know how to upload this video for class work?

  • umm... this is almost as scary as that kool-aid commercial from the 70's

  • still have this stuck in my head!!!!!

  • The secret to eating a vegemite sandwich is u lightly spread it on , lol.

  • vegemite to me is really gross not saying that australians have bad taste but peanut butter and jam is better

  • So proud to be Aussie right now :)

  • OMG luv vegemite don't know why most Americans don't like it. Probably because my parents fed me vegemite when I was a little kid! :)

  • Goosebumps worthy.

  • i have a plate from a long time ago that has the vegemite song on it, its awesome XD

  • @XaveyalanaX i think you mean oi oi oi

  • Tell me if anyone else does this but I can eat spoonfuls of Vegemite out of the jar.

I guess that is what growing up with it does to you.

    Seriously, it's amazing.

  • Vegemite! :D

Just had two awesome vegemite and cheese sandwiches, yum as. I am one happy little vegemite :3

  • Why does this make me want to play Fallout 3?

  • @Bioeoo2 Ikr...

  • I watch Prisoner Cell Block H, and on every table on the program, there is indeed a jar of Vegemite. I guess you eat Vegemite like we Americans eat Peanut Butter.

  • @Smartboy8877 you don't know what fallout 3 is?!?!?!? *gasp!*

  • You know Vegemite ain't that bad I give it like 6/10 because it taste like crap if you put too much on your mouth.

  • im Aerican and i love Vegemite and PB&J

either way both good for me :D but i use crunchy peanut butter so i dont put it on that thick, it makes me sick. vegemite i can eat from the jar haha!

  • @Conniptions886 i would die just waiting for my show to come back on hahaha

  • my teacher was in this ad...

  • Us Aussies are born and raised on this stuff! We also eat amercian food but yet the states can't handle our vegemite?! LOL!!!

  • @funnypeople1913 im American and i love Vegemite :(

  • My dad asked the Australian president and some members of the Australian parliament, live and in person, what Australian food I'd serve my English class for an Australia project. They started singing this song.

  • I need to try this stuff, but I don't think my little American belly could handle it!

  • @SimoneeeMontanaaa I live in the states. Can't get the stuff over here, ya know.

  • @Bandaids4ever Yeah you can, go to a World Market. I just bought some today, and I'm from Plano, TX.

  • @IndalecioCeleste Really, now!? Hmmm... Just where might I find a place like that, I wonder. I will do some research!

  • @SimoneeeMontanaaa You should send me a jar! I've never tried it. : (

  • Pre-dinner vegemite. It's good for you.

  • I fkn love the stuff

  • Little girl at the table is my Aunty.

  • How come this reminds me of Fallout 3?

  • @NorseWinter

I do not think I have ever heard of "Fallout 3". What exactly is it?

  • VEGIMITE RULES ALL!!!!

  • vegemite toast w/ butter.. orgasmic.

  • vegemite yeah!!! bitches f-n awesome! go aus

  • i am from aus i have loooooads of vegemite on my toast!

  • I think that aussies usually love vegemite and not many people from other countries.

  • peanut butter is much better than vegemite/

  • i love vegimite...but i absolutly despize...promite.

  • This is scary. I'm an American, and haven't had Vegemite or Marmite. I can only imagine how it tastes.

  • @Coocachew To me, I'd describe it as a cross between soy sauce and beef bouillon stock cubes.

It's really salty and it's good. You put it on toast. Slather a ton of butter/margarine on toast, then put a thin coating of vegemite on it. No more than a teaspoon at most, it's strong stuff so you have to "dilute" it.

I'm american too, my aussie online buddy recommended it to me. I saw it at a store that sold imported goods, so I got it, good call. Glad she told me how to prepare it beforehand :P

  • Vegemite???? I would rather have Cherry Ripes, Violet crumbles and Chocolate Montes and oh yes, loading up on battered savaloys at the Circular Quay in Sydney on my way to the Toronga Park Zoo. You know the GOOD stuff. Take it from a Yank!

  • @newjerseybt This is why Australia has such a fit and sporty stereotype, no matter how false it may be. It's because many Australians choose to have Vegemite as a treat rather than unhealthy stuff like that.

But I agree - that stuff is tasty on occasion.

  • LOVE THIS SONG XD

  • @TimThetToolMan i agree

  • i wish i was one of those cool kids in the ad :c

  • awww, I remember having to perform this at school :'D

  • @JustPartOfTheCrowd omg same1

  • Australia is IT! ;])

  • @buzzclick500 Yep

  • AAHHH VEGEMITERS GROOSSS LOL if u like it...hmm.im sorry i dont understand XD

  • I'm so manly I eat it from the jar.

  • I do enjoy Vegemite, though only on occasions. Either spread lightly on toast or the good old, vegemite and cheese toasted sandwhich (in microwave is also good if your short on time). I so love the advert MORE. Brings back so many laughs of singing the add myself as a little one.

  • we love our vegemite, we adore our vegemite, it puts a rose on every cheek lol. Thanks for the vid. :)

  • Noooooooooooo do not try it for your own safety please don't through your life away

  • I WILL TRY THIS VEGEMITE STUFF,,I HOPE TASTE GOOD,,,

  • pepper and salt? , its said salt and THEN pepper i thought

  • i love my vegemite, in a toasted sandwich with mozzarella cheese... nom nom nom... and i also love it on toast with butter and a thin spread of french blueberry jam on top... sweet and sour... nom nom nom nom... bog in dont wait!

  • vegemite is epicness. i eat it everyday

  • Shit, i wanna try out vegemite.. :/ how and where i can get it except australia?

  • @MightyJustas There's a bunch of places that ship vegemite internationally; I still had it when I lived in the US. Even Amazon sells it! Fair warning though - vegemite has a, uh, unique taste, so don't buy a huge jar just in case you hate it.

Also, if you do get it; spread thin and have it with cheese. :)

  • @Blunderbuss09 Thanks man, thats a good idea to look for it on the internet lol

  • I had a Vegemite sandwich for the first time last year. At first I didn't think I liked it then after about an hour I wanted another. So I asked a man from Brussels if he spoke-a my language.

  • @muppetspuppets Not trying to be mean but just because all you "aussie's" eat vegemite doesn't mean you are better, i mean all you are doing is eating a healthy food. goodness vitamins do the same thing. It's a wonderful thing to have a food thats been in your culture for years, but don't over do it. I'm canadian but americans do have taste trust me!

  • Vegemite + toast = heaven

  • @kungFuGirl01 agreed

  • I love vegemite. I highly recommend it on toast. It's good with butter or cheese, or even honey depending on your sweet tooth.

  • Vegemite is the greatest there's nothing better I'm a 52 Australian born mum and still enjoy it's distinctive taste.....it's actually an acquired taste.....

  • Breakfast, lunch and tea? I've never had vegemite for dinner, but I'm open minded.

  • Hi Iam A Austrailian Boy And I Hate Peanut Butter And Jelly! Vegemite Rocks!

  • Vegemite on toast... the Aussie national dish. Yum.

  • ...è la cosa più schifosa che abbia mai assaggiato!!! ;P

  • im american i LOVE the stuff its awesome with a nice thick layer on Ritz crackers.

  • I've been in America for 40 years now and used to have to have my Vegemite mailed over. Now I can get it at my local World Market! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My 4yo just finished eating Vegemite on toast and made up her own Vegemite song, so I showed her this old ad. BTW, we're Americans. I love it, and tricked the kids into thinking it was chocolate spread the first time I brought it home. That was fun. Most of my kids like it too, but only if it's spread very thin.

  • I still love my vegemite on toast!

  • isnack 2.0 -.-

  • The good ol days.

  • go OZ!

  • I still say she had blond roots! Heck, I am a natural redhead and I have some lolo moments which I blame on me being a lolo redhead.

  • im eating it on toast right now & crikey its just sooo bloody good!!

  • we are happy little vegemite as happy as can be, we all enjoy our vegemite for breakast lunch and tea our mummy says we are growing stronger every single week because we love our vegemite we all enjoy our vegemite it puts a rose in every cheek <3

  • @LauraTheExplorer91 Hahahahah...why am I not surprised? See what the American educational system is like? She must have been a blond.

  • @ScottACPA surprisingly not she had dark hair most ppl would say it was cause she is female but we dont walk around wearing it lol

  • we sang this song in primary school here in New Zealand. I like vegemite but think I prefer marmite!

  • This is what passes for a war rally in Australia??? J/k.....I had the stuff while I was there in 2001. I loved it...tasted like thick soy sauce. Could fool a Yank into thinking it's chocolate 'til ya taste it.

  • @ScottACPA lol i actually watche a show where one of our tv presenters went to america and convinced this lady that vegemite was a sunscreen so she actually applied it and to freak her out he cooked a peice of toast and put some vegemite on it and ate it she flipped when she found out it wasnt actualy a sunscreen

  • Y dont they make ads like this anymore? I mean it would still be effective, nothing has changed. Has it?

  • Excellente! :) We are Vegemite Kids !!! woot

  • Now I know why Amanda Palmer was so freaked out while watching this commercial last night...

  • I am an American and I do like it, but I have to admit to comparing it to a salt lick for humans.

  • That's because you never grew up with it.

Vegemite is not something you can either "get used to" or "learn to like". It's a spread that you either like or hate as soon as you're born. And most Aussies love vegemite - it's better than some of the other crapo like "reeces pieces' - seriously, what the fuck is that!?

  • @gribae

I'm an American and I agree with you. Someone brought it back to the States, I tasted it, and I loved the stuff right away. My wife bought me a 2.5 kg tub of it for Valentine's day. It goes fast.

  • @gribae I am from Pennsylvania, home of the maker of Reese's Pieces.....let's put it this way: Vegemite is better for ya than Reeses Pieces, but we make more widely appealing stuff. Anyway, Reese's Pieces is just a peanut butter candy. But we all have our likes and dislikes: Candians have curling, Americans have our "American" football and Aussies have "Footie". So like sports, our countries have different food tastes.

  • @ScottACPA footie? Ours football is just football not footie lol :) nice try though

  • Just take a gander at the look on the little girl's face at approx. :52 just as she bites into the Vegemite covered toast. Can't stop herself from grimacing for a moment. Ahh, yeast spread...

  • Makes me proud to be Australian.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • OH MY GOD!!!! i love it :')

OI PPL...dont diss the iconic vegemite <3

  • My moms family is all from AU she loved the stuff.... Ill stick with the B 12 shots myself.... lol {shakes head}

  • Why it's never taken off in America is that Americans tend to spread it as though it's peanut butter - if you do that with Vegemite, your head will implode...

A very thin smear is best - Kraft actually used to advertise it that way many decades ago...

  • I actually prefer it a bit thick. I don't like to be able to taste bread.

  • Ditto. I smother bread, saos, everything with it until everything's black.

  • Aye, most forigners seem to think vegemite is a spread like all the others, not realising how thick it is.

  • @Conniptions886 yeah. i tryed the new cheesey mite stuff casue i hated the old stuff and spead it verg thik. it was horrible

  • @Conniptions886 nah... spreading it like peanut butter is the best way to have it... but then, I'm an Aussie :D Vegemite = <3 *off to have a Vegemite sandwich*

  • @Conniptions886 Matter of taste, actually. While most of them think that, it depends on your individual taste for it. I smear it on thick all the time - toast, sangers, saos, crackers etc The more the better

  • @Conniptions886 Just saying I'm a 15 year old american I love vegemite! I like to put a semi thick layer on Ritz crackers mmm so good

  • @stinkerbell76

    YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM its delicious :)

  • I love the ad as much as I love Vegemite!!

Yeah I saw some american show, they put it on so thick! crazy! No one would like it like that.

But then don't they like peanut butter and jelly - blugh! ? Obviously no taste lol

  • @muppetspuppets - when Americans say "peanut butter and JELLY", they mean what we call "jam"...

  • Yeah I know. A friend got me to try it. I didn't like it

  • @Conniptions886 I use jelly, not jam but its like vegemite, cant put it on super thick, I just received some from a friend and it was surprisingly good, but like jelly too much is just terrible

  • @Conniptions886 Actually, there is a difference between jelly and jam. :) Jelly has no fruit chunks in it.

  • @Conniptions886 Well, I'm told that there isn't anything in Australia like what's called "jelly" in the USA. Jam, in America, has small pieces of fruit and seeds and rind and stuff. Jelly is the same sort of thing but all the solid stuff has been strained out. That's what is put on bread with peanut butter.

In the USA, gelatin (usually called Jell-O, although that's a trademarked brand name and there are other brands) is what is called jelly in Australia. That's the solid jiggly dessert.

  • @hebneh - In Australia, jam with pieces of fruit, seed, rind, etc, is called "fruit conserve"...

  • @Conniptions886

In a way. Preserve is different from jelly which is usually seedless. If you cop grape jelly at Trader Joe's you'll see and taste the difference. My American son stopped liking PB&J once we moved to Oz because the jam doesn't cut it, lol ;P

  • @muppetspuppets i'm american and i can't stand peanut butter and jelly. i like peanut butter and i like jelly, but not together. vegemite it too salty for me, but then i also didn't grow up eating it. now, pimento cheese is pretty awesome stuff.

  • @tranurse I like them seprate too. But I've also found out that since, that in America 'Jelly' does not mean 'gello'

but it's actually what we call 'Jam' here.

The trick to vegemite is to have just a very, very small amount on the butter.

  • @muppetspuppets again, i'll take your word for it. i live in the south, and a lot of people over here, like to make fun of us over what we eat. again, i think it is all what you grow up eating.

  • @muppetspuppets I have equal parts Vegemite and butter, and know a lot who have no butter and looooaaaaads of Vegemite. Everybody's different. I grew up eating it, so to me it tastes like what a spread should taste like, and I eat it every day haha. While a foreigner or someone who never ate it much would have to have a small amount (as you said), most Australians can eat it straight out of the jar, so to speak.

  • @muppetspuppets hey im aussie an id like peanut butter and jelly(jam) but i love vegemite eating it now

  • @muppetspuppets Okay, I'm american and i don't like peanut butter and jam. And I DO know how to put Vegemite on my bread, so don't think that all of us Americans are stupid. Just the ones on television

  • @muppetspuppets Peanut butter and Jam isn't that bad

  • @muppetspuppets PB&J is awesome dude D:

  • Hey, I just saw that at the museum!

  • Is that why Australians kick so much ass!? They're all so damn strong from eating their damn Vegemite!

  • wow xD!

  • Vegemite is the most delicious thing in the universe.

  • Too right !!

  • u bloody bet it is!

  • I seem to remember this video got remade in the 90s or early 2000s, but I can't find the remake anywhere. Any tips, or just assurances I'm not hallucinating? :) No, I don't mean iSnack 2.0. *shudder*.

  • Yeah, they added colour highlights to it, late 80's or early 90's...

  • Is that where Michael Jackson got design inspiration?

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    KRAFT leave our vegemite alone

  • Why don't they get stronger every single day?

  • Because "day" doesn't rhyme with "cheek?"

  • this reminds me of a cult i used to be in.

  • Freaky!! But its kool

  • Freaky kids, aren't they?

  • They eat a yeasty substance for 2 meals and a snack.
