Um first with a question does the nexus one have flashplayer built in when you get it? And to the dude that thinks the droid is better than thee nexuss one yoou are a dumbass and you should just kll your self now
Look at this shit. The flash videos are choppy, they're eating up the battery, and you keep getting pop up messages saying it's not optimized for mobile LOL.
Are you sure you want a good web experience? Because this is not a good web experience whatsoever.
@ReneAlanisJr Flash support for mobile device isn't meant to replace the desktop experience FYI. Its for that additional support that allows your mobile phone to access basically 100% of the web content, I wont complain about slow or lag when I happen to NEED to access a flash site once in awhile.
Plus the fact is, even though the phone supports flash, it would still view pages that are optimized for mobile as well as iPhone or any other mobile phones out there just the same.
@ReneAlanisJr Its a far superior web experience to the iPhone. Surfing the web on the iPhone gives me a headache. The browser is slow and it doesn't even render the entire page. Let alone the boxes with question marks.
@ilovebball At least it's better than those crippled browsers that most cell phones have. It's a browser on a phone, it's going to get slow sometimes.
And I'd rather have little boxes with questions marks instead of choppy flash content that will eat up my battery, eat up my CPU and have pop-up messages saying it's not optimized for mobile.
@ReneAlanisJr typical fanboy reasoning.... by the way...... if you dont want it in nexus one you can just disable it..... its better to have than to have not fanboy
@ianonavy17 First off, he only uses websites that apparently have minimal chance of crashing. Second, flash crashed TWICE during his demo in SEATTLE. Just because his video shows 3-5 websites running flash doesn't mean it works for every website. For example, you CAN'T watch hulu using flash on a mobile device. So Steve Jobs was right all along.
Lol...that's pretty funny...I was just watching shows on C.B.S.c.o.m on my 1st gen iphone with crappy 400mhz cpu...it work flawlessly...its too bad we had to wait till we reached 1Ghz before we could watch flash video...Mp4's work so much better...
iphone has a shitty and buggy OS, which can't even take the world's most used content plugin. OSes are supposed to be stable. An OS is something which is a platform for other application. A good OS supports all apps without crashing itself.
Haters need to hop off. It's playing flash as well as iPhone displays non flash pages. Yea it's a little choppy, but mobile phones always are when it comes to crazy websites. Don't tell me iPhone isn't choppy because I had the iPhone for 2 years. Now I have a nexus one, and it kills the iPhone in almost every way.
did anyone notice how choppy & buggy it was. OMG, that was not a good demostration. the video & some of the websites it was on. not to mention that farmville video i saw the other day was horrible. if its not working that well then dont show it off
@bengaligangsta Tomorrow will be the annual google I/O conference where they will announce the latest android version which is 2.2 (Froyo). Based on the info I got so far it will be released anytime from this week up until June. The first to get it of course will be Nexus 1 since it's a google phone. I also read that motorola droid and htc evo will get it ahead of the others. For desire you have to call HTC.
@epgomez Thanks for your quick reply. I'll be waiting for the announcement tomorrow. Hopefully HTC Sense will be available as soon after Froyo is released. But from experience of HTC Hero's update to 2.1, an update for the Desire might not come as sooner as it's hoped for. In that case flashing the N1's rom on the Desire might be the only option for now.
"In addition, Flash has not performed well on mobile devices. We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it." - Steve Jobs

@bboyfantasy Give it a couple more months of development, and it will be more efficient. The only reason Flash isn't doing spectacularly on mobile devices at the moment is that originally, Apple had the majority of mobile device market share and disallowed it. Now that the Android phones have Flash, the technology can be more fine-tuned to suit mobile devices.
You can't expect software under development to be perfect. Futthermore, I never argued that it would be perfect. Nothing really is.

I like how you have to click the flash content to interact with it. How I Met Your Mother is in my Top 5 shows of all time. It is up there with The Big Bang Theory and Firefly :)
Performance is very impressive for a mobile phone. There's some lag here and there, so there might be room for improvement, but it looks quite usable, even the 3D demo. I've seen netbooks with laggier Flash performance. Now the phone needs a higher resolution screen :-)
People are commenting that it seemed laggy. Well notice that this guy had all these Flash windows open at the same time. If I had that many flash windows open on my machine, MY crap would be lagging, and I have 4GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo E8500.
@coisman I dont think those are actual windows running in the background, those windows are just bookmarks with the image of the sites he recently visited
I had some iPhone lust for a while, but the lack of physical keyboard kept me from getting one and I got a Pre. Now, the lack of Flash is having me look at Android for my next phone and definitely for when I buy a tablet.
@Ocunra Flash Player 10.1 doesnt provide GPU acceleration for every computer. Only for a few GPU's...so alot of netbooks dont have that improvment on flash.
FUCK YOU JOBS, you where fking wrong, asshole!! ARE YOU SEEING THIS??? THE FIRST SITE WORKS NEARLY THE SAME AS IN MY PC, AND NOTE THAT IT IS MADE WITH REALLY COMPLEX 3D GRAPHICS, SOOOO FUCK YOU JOOOBS!!!
A great little demo, a shame you didn't decide to show the interactive swingometer for the BBC stuff though because that was a very clever use of Flash!
I'd love to see what the PQ is like if you use a video out cable...
@TheBigboySid But that's the thing, phones can run amazing 3D games natively and play high quality video - all without stuttering. I'd much rather have that experience on my phone than what we see in the video. Just because it's 'just a phone' it doesn't mean we should accept poor performance.
anyway , games and flash content in a web browser is just plain different . while this is a new thing in the phone arena , i believe in near future they will be a better , 'flawless' version of flash .
and u just can have a phone from the fruit company , in case u hate/don't want having flash on your mobile though . just an option :)
Now why is it so difficult for Apple to implement such an option? I was always so impressed with the way Apple handled interaction issues. However, they are only saying 'we aren't going to' and 'we can't' right now. I'm definitely going to swithc to Android.
As a Flash developer I know a lot of the criticism of Flash is unfounded (a lot of the security issues can apply to any plugin for instance). Most critics cite CPU/battery life as a complaint, but it's entirely down to the programmer. For instance my game currently uses only 5% cpu. In a like-for-like comparison HTML5 seems 20% less efficient at the moment. In the end, the user ought to make the choice if they want to use Flash, they should not be FORCED to by Apple or anybody else!
No matter what, it's still a phone processor and also has to run for hours. A computer has a lot more power (computationally and needs more power) so it can play flash smoothly.
Now if they can optimize flash for phones, then it will work well.
2 years ago, I loved the iphone. It felt liberating chucking my Windows mobile device and adopting a lovingly crafted piece of tech, but Apple has become tyrannical in their success. And Apple supporters have become fanatics, making it embarassing to even be associated with the brand. Ordered my Nexus One today and I can't wait not to have Steve Job's ego engraved on my smartphone.
FUCK YOU STEVE JOBS! you basically were just proven wrong about "adobe flash can't work on teh iphonez LULZ"
fucking piece of shit steve jobs is and a hypocrite saying that flash isn't an "OPEN system" when clearly neither is the iPhone platform or the shady ass fucking store.
Can't wait till the google/andriod tablet are released, they're gonna fucking RAPE apple.
@Ocunra yes, i did. and had an better experience than flash. more fluid and faster performance, with better image quality. for example on my netbook 720p flash is almost impossible to run smootly... and with h.264 just run with an perfect performance and image quality. I dont like flash videos at all...
I don't know why there are suddenly so many flash haters, if you hate flash, get the fuck out of youtube. Youtube wont be what it is today without flash.
Flash is the technology that made all this possible, and I am not afraid to say that it is one of the major technology that help drives the web into what it is today.
The only problem with flash is the player is not properly optimized, the format itself is amazing.
@Xyse Of course. Flash on youtube is just a way to view video. There were other ways five years ago. And If Flash hadn't existed, something like html5 would have come round long time ago. But what's the point of speculating in "what-ifs"? The point is, flash (as a video format) is dying. And it's about time.
@CatConnoisseur There is no "what ifs" about Flash and its success and capabilities. The only one making assumption is you.
Even before Flash, you can view online video using embedded video objects through quicktime/windows media player, they didnt pick up as different platform only support specific plugins. Flash gain wide spread adoption because content provider only need to support a single platform. And ffs, flash is not just a media player, it can do much much more that html5 cant provide.
we will see which is better when cbs comes out with html5 for iphone & ipad. also people are all excited because you can finally watch hulu which is in flash. not true hulu isnt flash ready for mobile phones. thats why most people want flash is because of sites like hulu. so i guess we will see wen it hit the market. but the problem i have is why dont android or flash just demonstrate to a group of people or let journalist play with flash to see how it actually works instead of sum guy show us
Vimeo have option to watch video in flash or HTML5 and HTML5 suck for video (well a can notice the difference). Adobe do not let people ''play with it'' as you said because it is still in beta. And jhust to let you know, as far as aknow, even if this guys showed us, it made the frontpage of engadget, gizmodo, and thousand of other tech site. I think they already got the visibility.
@zephyrianflux i don't really hate it, actually i loved it, it made the web much greater, but it's time has come, our goal is to make the web open, flash is not open, it is controlled by one company. If you don't like how your browser does html5, you can just change to another browser, or write your own. If you don't like how your flash player works.... cry?
I don't like flash, it is usually a cpu hog and doesn't optimize well AT ALL. now I'm not an apple fanboy (im a google one actualy). All the video playback, chart, navigation and the presentation thing, all can be easily done with HTML5, and take MUCH less cpu.
Now flash games on the other hand is very cool, the fact that you can put a few lines of code, and the game will natively work on a phone is great.
@kostiak If you thing it can be done the same with html5 and be even a little more efficient - youre completly wrong, flash is optimised for such things, and compiled to bytecode, canvas is not. Try it.
@mooska3 oh i wasn't talking about canvas at all, here, two examples of almost the exact same navigation style done in html5: the virginamerica site and steampowered site
@kostiak Even so, why do you think its even near as efficient as flash is ? The steam thing is glitchy on my laptop. The same flash view would be even hard to make glitchy, its just a slider. Same for virgin, its buggy. I would really love to have a stable open platform with possibilities like flash, that works crossplatform, with oop capable language to code in, but html5 is not even close.Developing in html/js takes a lot of time to make easy thing. This means expensive. For a user.
@mooska3 html5 is not there yet, especially in the developer side, right now. But going into the future, i would love to see html5 get better and replace flash in time.
Adobe is not the problem, they mean good, and they do a LOT of good software, but we all need to have a more open web, everyone can benefit from it.
@kostiak Flash with time becomes more and more open, theres totally o-sourced Flex/Flash sdk, Flash IDE files are xml now, swf is publicly documented, flashplayer is built into Chrome. This is the way it should be, that is why I can at least trust that Adobe does whats good for dev/users. HTML5/js as a replacement is worse at least, several different companies, with their patents, platform, codecs etc.thats only a big mess, not standard, and open stdnrds adoption rate is 5-6 years vs 1yr for fp.
@kostiak I dont understand why ppl try to compare Flash and HTML5. Adobe is developing cool authoring tools for HTML5 too. HTML5 means more work ,more coding and an ok looking site. Flash means less coding, less work and a great looking site.Web without flash is totally boring. It might be ok for you but not for everyone. Have you seen FWA site? can you tell me if u can build sites like that using HTML5? and what about things like papervison3D? Augmented reality? I am not against HTML5 btw.
@sonus911 web apps are the future thought ... but we need better wireless data connections ;)
Does it make sense to have a Facebook app with data cached on the phone? When I use Facebook on my phone, I want to get the latest content available, not the data cached 30 minutes ago. But, as of today, mobile data connections are not enough faster and reliable to have all the content online.
Why is it that people praise android because its open but hate apple because it's closed. But when they put flash on android which isn't open at all people praise it
@MrLeroysBoy Android is open and its a great OS we don't care about Flash because its just an extra thats we are happy finally made it to mobile. We don't care for open Flash because there is only one flash that I know of...

A great little demo, a shame you didn't decide to show the interactive swingometer for the BBC stuff though because that was a very clever use of Flash!
I'd love to see what the PQ is like if you use a video out cable...
christopherwoods 1 year ago
I would hardly call this "flawless". The frame rates were, at times, really poor. A lot of the video stuttered. It doesn't stutter in pure H.264.
jjay721 1 year ago 2
@jjay721
wat do u really expect , its just a phone .get a mobile device running flash content alone is just pure awesome .
TheBigboySid 1 year ago
@TheBigboySid But that's the thing, phones can run amazing 3D games natively and play high quality video - all without stuttering. I'd much rather have that experience on my phone than what we see in the video. Just because it's 'just a phone' it doesn't mean we should accept poor performance.
jjay721 1 year ago
@jjay721
maybe u right :-P
anyway , games and flash content in a web browser is just plain different . while this is a new thing in the phone arena , i believe in near future they will be a better , 'flawless' version of flash .
and u just can have a phone from the fruit company , in case u hate/don't want having flash on your mobile though . just an option :)

The Steve BlowJobs disciples hate flash because the iPhone isn't getting it, if it were they'd be singing another tune.

BarricadeSlade 1 year ago
@BarricadeSlade I do not meant now, I meant what made youtube possible 5 years ago.
Xyse 1 year ago
@Xyse You do realize that you can use Youtube without flash, right?
CatConnoisseur 1 year ago
@CatConnoisseur So? I dont remember we had html5 5 years ago. Without flash do you think youtube would even exist now?
Xyse 1 year ago
@Xyse Of course. Flash on youtube is just a way to view video. There were other ways five years ago. And If Flash hadn't existed, something like html5 would have come round long time ago. But what's the point of speculating in "what-ifs"? The point is, flash (as a video format) is dying. And it's about time.
CatConnoisseur 1 year ago
@CatConnoisseur There is no "what ifs" about Flash and its success and capabilities. The only one making assumption is you.
Even before Flash, you can view online video using embedded video objects through quicktime/windows media player, they didnt pick up as different platform only support specific plugins. Flash gain wide spread adoption because content provider only need to support a single platform. And ffs, flash is not just a media player, it can do much much more that html5 cant provide.
Xyse 1 year ago
@Xyse Saying that YouTube wouldn't exist if Flash had not been invented sounds like an assumption to me.
CatConnoisseur 1 year ago
@Xyse Funny thing, Im on YouTube with Flash disabled and videos play perfectly.

we will see which is better when cbs comes out with html5 for iphone & ipad. also people are all excited because you can finally watch hulu which is in flash. not true hulu isnt flash ready for mobile phones. thats why most people want flash is because of sites like hulu. so i guess we will see wen it hit the market. but the problem i have is why dont android or flash just demonstrate to a group of people or let journalist play with flash to see how it actually works instead of sum guy show us
MrLeroysBoy 1 year ago
@MrLeroysBoy
I think they already got the visibility.
sambine 1 year ago
ok, Seriously, what is with the hate for flash? I don't get what's to hate about it. It is just their 0.0 It isn't hurting anyone, is it?
zephyrianflux 1 year ago
@zephyrianflux i don't really hate it, actually i loved it, it made the web much greater, but it's time has come, our goal is to make the web open, flash is not open, it is controlled by one company. If you don't like how your browser does html5, you can just change to another browser, or write your own. If you don't like how your flash player works.... cry?
kostiak 1 year ago
I don't like flash, it is usually a cpu hog and doesn't optimize well AT ALL. now I'm not an apple fanboy (im a google one actualy). All the video playback, chart, navigation and the presentation thing, all can be easily done with HTML5, and take MUCH less cpu.
Now flash games on the other hand is very cool, the fact that you can put a few lines of code, and the game will natively work on a phone is great.
so flash: yes for games, no for anything else.
kostiak 1 year ago
@kostiak If you thing it can be done the same with html5 and be even a little more efficient - youre completly wrong, flash is optimised for such things, and compiled to bytecode, canvas is not. Try it.
mooska3 1 year ago
@mooska3 oh i wasn't talking about canvas at all, here, two examples of almost the exact same navigation style done in html5: the virginamerica site and steampowered site
there are more, i just don't remember right now.
kostiak 1 year ago
@kostiak Even so, why do you think its even near as efficient as flash is ? The steam thing is glitchy on my laptop. The same flash view would be even hard to make glitchy, its just a slider. Same for virgin, its buggy. I would really love to have a stable open platform with possibilities like flash, that works crossplatform, with oop capable language to code in, but html5 is not even close.Developing in html/js takes a lot of time to make easy thing. This means expensive. For a user.
mooska3 1 year ago
@mooska3 html5 is not there yet, especially in the developer side, right now. But going into the future, i would love to see html5 get better and replace flash in time.
Adobe is not the problem, they mean good, and they do a LOT of good software, but we all need to have a more open web, everyone can benefit from it.
kostiak 1 year ago

LOL at even thinking about trusting Jobs on the Flash issue.
Let's see his track record:
1. Web apps are superior and the future... then the iPhone gets real apps
2. 3G wastes too much battery... then the iPhone gets 3G
3. Multitasking isn't feasible on a phone and wastes too much battery... then the iPhone gets multitasking.
...and that's not even including things like GPS, HDMI for macs, etc.
sonus911 1 year ago 41
@sonus911 web apps are the future thought ... but we need better wireless data connections ;)
Does it make sense to have a Facebook app with data cached on the phone? When I use Facebook on my phone, I want to get the latest content available, not the data cached 30 minutes ago. But, as of today, mobile data connections are not enough faster and reliable to have all the content online.
