@franklucas2011 can you imagine him in todays premier league having to cope with 4th official and stuff.wonder if he would still stick to his policy of not slagging off refs.surely have opinion on capello blatter and 2 footed tackles!
Salute to a man who always spoke his mind (admittedly it was long before globalisation shrunk the football world).. Look at what happened to Richard Keys and Andy Gray for comments during a 'private' conversation.. F-T-World, its all gone maddddd
I always wonder how cloughie would have dealt with the new brand of footballer... they are really worlds apart from the football world he managed in. I think Mourinho is no great fan of arrogant characters (despite being one) but it certainly would have been interesting. He struggled at Leeds with players who were like early "modern footballers" but then that was leeds who couldn't let go of their love for Don Revvie.
Becks is a good guy who keeps his feet firmly on the ground. But Clough talks alot of sense. The current disparity between players and ordinary punters has to, and will, end. Football's popularity comes from the fact it's a working man's game. Not for aristos. Look at footballers' backgrounds. Players were the same as supporters, apart from their ability and glamour. When Greaves played his first game for Chelsea he bought an underground ticket. No-one knew him going out; they did on his return.
The world misses Brian Clough, mainly because he talked a lot of sense. Some people say he had a big mouth, but in the industry he was in, shy boys get no sweets.
@thereisnopluto "For all his hopes, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls" Brian Clough on Alex Ferguson
@vickieclarke This was the reason he called Fergie King Rat: "I call Alex 'King Rat' not as an insult, but because of the example he has set with Manchester United, the lead he has given with the dynasty he has created and the financial empire built around the success of his teams." WALKING ON WATER by Brian Clough

Hi, just wanted to update you all on the progress of my book. I am putting together a book of memories from people who met the great Brian Clough. I have had lots of fantastic stories so far and have four publishers interested, so its looking very promising.
I still need more, so if you ever met him please put drop me a line with your story for inclusion, I will read and reply to everyone. The email address is thedayimet@hotmail.co.uk
they should give beckham 15 quid a week,he is the most overated player the game has ever seen,he can't head the ball, can't go past players and he hasen't got any pace,iv'e seen better players on a sunday
I love Brian Clough because...........he said it like it was, refreshingly defended referees and asked players to stand up and be counted - a great man. Please follow this thread with 'I love Brian Clough because......'
ive only started recently watching some of brian clough's interviews, and he makes jose look boring! wow we need more out spoken managers like him. what a character. his comments are hilarious, true and to the point!
Fucking hell we miss you gloughie he always spoke his mind and took no shit. As for big Ron he got fucking hammered for using the nigger word. What a load of bollox ,because people can't handle hearing the word nigger for fuck sake black people call each other niggers all the time, but when whites do it it's fucking racist???? So blacks can say it but not whites - well isn't that another form of racism. It's a word you fucking retards get over it bunch of niggers paki paddies fucks.
Exactly, Ron used that word because he was pissed off with Desailly being lazy. He was calling him any insulting word under the sun because of how he played, not because of the colour of his skin. Nigger is an offensive word, that is why Ron used it, to give impact. It was not directed at all black people it was directed specifically at Marcel Desailly, he didn't call him a lazy nigger because of a preconception that all blacks are lazy, he watched Desailly and saw he was lazy.
No, but I don't think you would want to insult your friends. I'm not saying it was an acceptable thing to say, I'm saying he said it because he knew it was insulting not because he is racist. He may be ignorant, he may even be racist but I don't think you can judge that based on one comment made in the heat of the moment.
If Desailly was lazy then ron could have just said he's lazy, calling him thick (which he clearly isnt) & a n****r was just unnecessary....
And he did say it b'coz of a pre-conception, he said "in some schools he would be known as a etc etc...", that implies that it's an institutionalized school of thought...
@cupomash Why'd you put paddies in there? Bit fuckin stupid as Brian Clough and Roy Keane were good friends, and Atkinson is a regular on Irish radio. Disgusted by your comment
@cupomash Why'd you put paddies in there? Bit fuckin stupid as Brian Clough and Roy Keane were good friends, and Atkinson is a regular on Irish radio. I respect both of these men but i'm fuckin disgusted by your comment
@primroseNblue you really don't have a clue how the world works do you? why are you judging two legends as if they grew up and were educated like today's youth, judging them by today's insane standards? These guys were not afraid to say what was what. i like the way gordon brown taught you a new piece of vocabulary, maybe you just wanted to use it to sound smart
Is it only me who doesn't understand the constant criticism of Mrs. Beckham? How much influence has she really exerted on David's career, when you look at it? He would have embraced celebrity without her, that's just modern football. And who wouldn't fancy a pay day in America over playing for that clown club Newcastle?
@kisbie i wouldnt as i have my pride and how many "clown clubs" get 52 000 fans every other week let me gess ur a man u fan from london who has never been to manchester now whos the clown ? N U F C
Clough was one of, if not the best managers of all time. I can't see how some can say he was average???? Mainly them who say that are Leeds Utd fans but seriously at that time Don Revie was a father figure to Bremner and co, any manager would have found it tough to take on the job... it was just more difficult for Cloughie because if he was to win over the leeds players he would have had to go against his philosophy of the game... R.I.P SIR BRIAN CLOUGH
there"s only one Brian Clough, I"m Spurs supporter, & Cloughie played a Tottenham style, on the ground proper football. Mourinho couldn"t steal Brians act, as he was a one off. winning the league at Derby then Forrest says it all, & 2 European Cups to boot, sadly missed but not forgotten....
well sir mick jagger and sir paul mcCaartney both busted for drugs and did porridge well paul deffinetly, its a joke with old bill going found schools talking about dangers of drugs . brian clough on the other hand deserved it for so many reasons and he spoke as he thouhgt
for me it feels like football died when clough retired, i don't watch professional football and england anymore for the very reason clough said its no longer a workinmans game , sadly now i only watch park football, plus so many people don't follow their local clubs just the usual suspects
I'd like to hear what Ol' Big 'ead has to say about the hypocrisy surrounding today's divers -- the ones who play for Arsenal and the ones who are allowed to get away with it because they play for Man U, Chelsea and/or England!
Cloughis was the greates.....In a few years time the game will miss alex ferguson the same way.....i can't stand the bloke personally but his quip about man city today was brutal and classic "They are a stupid and arrogant small club"..........Managers with that kind of personality are very few an far between. we need to enjoy them whilst they are around
Absolutely spot on. The likes of Clough and Ferguson are the tough father figures that especially the younger players need to deal with this sort of fame and fortune.
Ferguson!!! You're having a laugh ain't ya!!! Ferguson may have won all the trophies but he is a absolute disgrace to football. He is the main reason why I don't like football as much as I used to.
Its a pity there isn't more characters like Brian Clough in the football game anymore. Football is a poorer place without the likes of Brian Clough. RIP The Greatest Manager England Never Had. A True Legend and Genius.
hey up all you twats who been defending brown the clown and new labour . i bet you have red faces now . you seen what a load of cunts they are . especially elliot morley and that Fayebeanl hamilton a leeds labour mp. just plain stealing from us, why does a labour mp have a name like fayebean you know he is a cunt with a name like that just a load of posh criminals .yorkshire say to labour fFUCK OFF YOU THEIVING TWATS
I'm actually saw him play!! It was for Middlesbro vs Rotherham at Millmoor and Boro won 4-0. Clough was CF with a player called Halliday on the LW. Devastating combination.
Cough was hard, fast, fearless and the bugger never missed. The nearest you get in the modern game is Shearer.
An even better manager, and a nicer bloke never walked the land.
To actually see him play would have been my honour I met him once when I was about 22! Waiting for an FA cup semi final ticket for Old Trafford (Gates had shut)! I had long hair but I stood up like a guardman on parade in the lobby! He looked me up and down and said nothing! I got my ticket for 3 pounds fifty! He will always be my friend and hero! That day Forest won 1-0 (Roy Judas Keane Goal)!
@tmolet Yes, I also saw him play for the English League v. Irish League. I think he scored a hat-trick,not sure but he was brilliant, direct ,fearless and with some considerable ball skill. How England could do with him now!
Clough was a genius. Tried to get his players to play the game the way it should be. And what a character, always worth a quote on MOTD.
Would have loved to see him at my club (Swansea) - actually I did, our first home defeat I think in those heady days when we were in the top flight. I mean as the manager.. I think Derby are a whole lot more likable now his son has taken over from that sleazy dickhead Jewell as well...
he spoke his mind, sometimes he was right, sometimes he was wrong. yes he was a character ,he was a good laugh on tv because he upset people. his fame was achieved with taylor at his side, his best mate. who he fell out with for life just because taylor had the cheek to sign robertson.from clough when at derby. a friendship never rekindled because taylor died a few years after and clough, like the two faced person he was then turned up at his funeral! good manager yes,but far from perfect!
exactly. someone should have told him that when he was spouting the rubbish he used to spout. clough himself thought he was perfect and so did his little band of followers. best job for cloughie would have been to be a politician....he told lies and was two faced....perfect for him!
The world needs people like Brian Clough, they are characters they stand out from the rest of us and make us think a little different, not just the opinion of the masses. He had is own opinion he made his own mind up and did things his way.maybe we should all take a leaf out of Brians book. Good luck to Nigel we are proud to have a clough back in charge RIP BRIAN CLOUGH.
Brian Clough was and still would be the best manager of anytime. his teams played simple football, back to basics and maybe some of the things he said was nonsense he was an extremely clever bloke when it came to football and alot of what he's publically said is true.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he's talking bollox. you think just telling beckham he doesnt need 4 cars would make him change his flash lifestyle. exactly why clough would not be a good manger these days,so out of touch. in fact he was shit after taylor split with him, even getting forest relegated and they've never recovered. he was a drunk,a liar and a ticket tout. putting his own fans in danger by selling tickets to united fans. oh and he also hit his own fans. plank!
out of touch,i will tell you whats out of touch it is the lack of respect that people show nowadays mr in2u2b its that fact that you should never speak ill of the dead,if you felt that way about the bloke why watch the clip in the first place and keep your disrespectful thoughts to yourself.
the book was criticised by his family but the leeds players of the team it talks about say it is very accurate of that period. i'm reading it at the moment and all i can say is it shows cloughie for the absolute legend that he was. football is a lot poorer without him.
football was a working class game - those were the days. Now there is no loyalty and players come and go just for the pay check. Cloughie represents a golden era which is no more......god bless him

Did Mourinho steal BC's act? Albeit with more hair and a much nicer jacket?
anthonythirteen 2 years ago 5
there"s only one Brian Clough, I"m Spurs supporter, & Cloughie played a Tottenham style, on the ground proper football. Mourinho couldn"t steal Brians act, as he was a one off. winning the league at Derby then Forrest says it all, & 2 European Cups to boot, sadly missed but not forgotten....

Clough is like more like a typical Irishman than Englishman, in that he means what he says, and says what he means.

for me it feels like football died when clough retired, i don't watch professional football and england anymore for the very reason clough said its no longer a workinmans game , sadly now i only watch park football, plus so many people don't follow their local clubs just the usual suspects

I'd like to hear what Ol' Big 'ead has to say about the hypocrisy surrounding today's divers -- the ones who play for Arsenal and the ones who are allowed to get away with it because they play for Man U, Chelsea and/or England!

Cloughis was the greates.....In a few years time the game will miss alex ferguson the same way.....i can't stand the bloke personally but his quip about man city today was brutal and classic "They are a stupid and arrogant small club"..........Managers with that kind of personality are very few an far between. we need to enjoy them whilst they are around
capokhatpin 2 years ago 7
Absolutely spot on. The likes of Clough and Ferguson are the tough father figures that especially the younger players need to deal with this sort of fame and fortune.
terrorbean100 2 years ago
Ferguson!!! You're having a laugh ain't ya!!! Ferguson may have won all the trophies but he is a absolute disgrace to football. He is the main reason why I don't like football as much as I used to.

Quality Clough!
He couldn't stand Posh Spice, I remember Beckham complaining about it saying that he was upset by the criticism!

Its a pity there isn't more characters like Brian Clough in the football game anymore. Football is a poorer place without the likes of Brian Clough. RIP The Greatest Manager England Never Had. A True Legend and Genius.

yorksmilkchurns 2 years ago
I'm actually saw him play!! It was for Middlesbro vs Rotherham at Millmoor and Boro won 4-0. Clough was CF with a player called Halliday on the LW. Devastating combination.
Cough was hard, fast, fearless and the bugger never missed. The nearest you get in the modern game is Shearer.
An even better manager, and a nicer bloke never walked the land.
tmolet 2 years ago 3
To actually see him play would have been my honour I met him once when I was about 22! Waiting for an FA cup semi final ticket for Old Trafford (Gates had shut)! I had long hair but I stood up like a guardman on parade in the lobby! He looked me up and down and said nothing! I got my ticket for 3 pounds fifty! He will always be my friend and hero! That day Forest won 1-0 (Roy Judas Keane Goal)!
wembley05 2 years ago 2
@tmolet Yes, I also saw him play for the English League v. Irish League. I think he scored a hat-trick,not sure but he was brilliant, direct ,fearless and with some considerable ball skill. How England could do with him now!

Every successful manager around these days has a piece of Clough in them.
DotsyOO7 2 years ago
Clough was a genius. Tried to get his players to play the game the way it should be. And what a character, always worth a quote on MOTD.
Would have loved to see him at my club (Swansea) - actually I did, our first home defeat I think in those heady days when we were in the top flight. I mean as the manager.. I think Derby are a whole lot more likable now his son has taken over from that sleazy dickhead Jewell as well...

he spoke his mind, sometimes he was right, sometimes he was wrong. yes he was a character ,he was a good laugh on tv because he upset people. his fame was achieved with taylor at his side, his best mate. who he fell out with for life just because taylor had the cheek to sign robertson.from clough when at derby. a friendship never rekindled because taylor died a few years after and clough, like the two faced person he was then turned up at his funeral! good manager yes,but far from perfect!
in2u2b 2 years ago
To be perfect his side would never let a goal in. You Think Cunt!
rufusandburne 2 years ago
exactly. someone should have told him that when he was spouting the rubbish he used to spout. clough himself thought he was perfect and so did his little band of followers. best job for cloughie would have been to be a politician....he told lies and was two faced....perfect for him!

The world needs people like Brian Clough, they are characters they stand out from the rest of us and make us think a little different, not just the opinion of the masses. He had is own opinion he made his own mind up and did things his way.maybe we should all take a leaf out of Brians book. Good luck to Nigel we are proud to have a clough back in charge RIP BRIAN CLOUGH.
fastasfox 2 years ago
Brian Clough was and still would be the best manager of anytime. his teams played simple football, back to basics and maybe some of the things he said was nonsense he was an extremely clever bloke when it came to football and alot of what he's publically said is true.

he's talking bollox. you think just telling beckham he doesnt need 4 cars would make him change his flash lifestyle. exactly why clough would not be a good manger these days,so out of touch. in fact he was shit after taylor split with him, even getting forest relegated and they've never recovered. he was a drunk,a liar and a ticket tout. putting his own fans in danger by selling tickets to united fans. oh and he also hit his own fans. plank!
in2u2b 2 years ago
bless yea
wiivamphomebrew 2 years ago
out of touch,i will tell you whats out of touch it is the lack of respect that people show nowadays mr in2u2b its that fact that you should never speak ill of the dead,if you felt that way about the bloke why watch the clip in the first place and keep your disrespectful thoughts to yourself.
fastasfox 2 years ago 2
the book was criticised by his family but the leeds players of the team it talks about say it is very accurate of that period. i'm reading it at the moment and all i can say is it shows cloughie for the absolute legend that he was. football is a lot poorer without him.
