also I have been meaning to ask. I can hit my hybrid 3 about 265, 5 wood about 275 my 3 wood 285 and drive right about 310-330. Distance has never been an issue, but my short game has. I am just wondering if I should switch out the 5 wood and add a 64 degree wedge. My problem is from 50 yds and in, I hit my 60 degree about 100 yards and having to half swing that much causes problems for me. It is not uncommon for me to try to slow up so much that I hit is fat. I am about a 10 handicap
my ball speed off the tee is about 166mph give or take 5 mph on a given swing. I got fitted for my clubs and used the tarmack as well. Bought the AP2's thanks for yours suggestion on those by the way.
great video, is there one style that puts more spin on the ball. I know this sounds stupid but I am a sweeper with my irons but for some reason with my wedges I turn into a digger. Maybe that is because I am trying to get more bounce. Should I try to switch to being a sweeper through all my shots. I was taught old school from my grandpa how to use wedges. Just wondering if that will effect my game or if it really doesn't matter. Thanks again.
Hi, Forgot the most important part of the bouce on wedges - is the condition of the course..
if it is hard ie dry, you need a club the bounce that will dig in ie less bounce and a soft course more bounce so the club does not dig in, it bounces off the soft grass.. he mentions the type of courses but not what is needed..
This is the best description of Bounce I have ever seen. I have a bit if a steep approach and have 12, 16, and 13 Bounce on my '52, '56, and '60, respectively.
Thanks Mark, I was planning to buy new wedges and this video has enlightened me. Thanks, Now know wht types of bounce to get on them.....Keep up the good work, Always watch ure reviews....Please x 3 do a review of Taylor-made RBZ driver against the TP 2.0 superfast.....Thanks
Thanks, Great Video! I never understood the difference between the wedges and the bounce on them. Really gonna help me when I go to buy one now! Keep the great vids coming!
Hye Mark, i'm playing a 56° wedge with 14° of bounce. My swing is rather steep and my HCP is 9. But every time i make a full swing i have to much divot. Will a 10° of bounce affect for less divot? Thanks in avance.
I have a better suggestion...buy wedges from Scorgolf and forget trying to figure out which bounce if for you depending on what type of course you are playing. The average player should have to have 8 wedges with different bounce angles.
Mark- great explanation. Could you do a video comparing the pitching styles (using the bounce vs the hands ahead style you showed on another vid) please?
I have had lessons where the pro stressed taking out the fwd lean and "using the bounce". It felt a bit risky to me and I was worried about blading it.
Mizuno MP-T11 50/? 54/08 60/? Need to check 2 of those lofts, I'm thinking 06 and 10 but thanks for the video, explains bounce very well and I'll get a little closer to my wedges now :)
@wathos123 Take each of your wedges and put them on a counter at eye level and notice the shaft angle needed to keep the bottom edge of the face as close to parallel to the ground as possible. You will notice the higher bounces will require more forward shaft lean (steep-digging style swing) to keep from blading or skulling the ball. The less bounce (6 degree, 8 degree) requires much less of a forward shaft lean (sweeping angle). Go to a golf shop and try out the different bounces.
great vid mark! i current use 3 cleveland wedges 2 cg16s, a 52/10 and 58/12, and a cg15, 64/8...i find the cg16s are easier to use on bunker shots and long chip shots...i find that short chip shots and long pitch shots come easier with the cg15...i also chose the cg15 because i found an authentic one for less than $50
can u explain a little bit more, for example in a bunker in the winter where the sand is hard and wet/compact,which bounce would suit?and in summer where its soft dry loose sand?thanks
I think this is a great vid.. but it's a dillemma, there's 2 places where I need a 56* wedge, from the sand or where I need to hit a flop that will stop and check very fast. I have a 56/14 vokey, it's very forgiving in sand to have more bounce because it stops the club digging. There's too many other times where I need to hit a flop where the lie can't take it and I have to resort to my 52/7 which I know can't check the ball fast enough..
hi mark love the videos, just a quick question. if you swing that 56/13 with a 'dig' type swing, does it reduce the angle of the club and give you a lower/further shot compared to if you swing the 56/10 with a sweeping swing?
did anyone notice he picked up the 13 degree bounce wedge twice and hit it both times lol

I'm a sweeper but I use both high and low bounce wedges for different shots.
GW 52*10 (medium bounce) for full shots
SW 56*13 (high bounce) for soft sand/turf
LW 60*03 (low bounce) for green-side shots

so pretty much, the more bounce it has the more you will need to dig at it ???
