Thanks, Marlowe. I've been playing a while with a number of bands and have never needed to slap, but I've decided to learn it anyway. The thumb slap remains a mystery to me - getting a good clean tone every time without ringing the other strings is not easy yet. This video is instructive.  I like your reverse up-slap.
