  • You hands are just so fascinating to watch when you play... no real straining, and such control! :) Great!

  • thank you for this :)

  • You really play with an excellent technique: can't be better! I don't like the kind of music, but yout performing is very very good!

  • A very, very fine and emotive rendering of one of Corea's icon pieces. I love the descending bass line on the left hand starting at 1'24''.

  • Man watching you play makes me so uncomfortable because it's all in the fingers and there's no body movement; but you know what, that's the way it should be! I can't stand over-dramatic pianists who lean back-and-forth and every which way; as if it makes them sound any better... you show yourself to be 10x better than them because you already play better than them first of all and secondly it's all coming just from your hands and nothing else! Now THAT's cool!!! :D

  • @macsdestroypcs hahaha can't stand over-dramatic pianists who lean back-and-forth and every which way; as if it makes them sound any better.XD thats funny but your right

  • @Planzuid18Killer7 Haha yeah I've come to realize that REAL players entertain the audience with their talent not their gestures (unless their gestures/movements come naturally to them. ;)

  • This made my day! Thanks!

  • How was I introduced to this song ?

In May 2009 I was on holiday In Cape Town with girlfriend Vanessa.

We stayed at the end with one of my best friend's Quentin.

His wife played this one night on a beat up upright.

There is something haunting about this piano piece.

  • awesome

  • Melancholy, yet beautiful! Thanks you.

  • This version of this song is so well-played. Congratulations !

  • Hey check my version of this song above and give me your opinion!

  • most excellent

  • You know that feeling when you are in your studio/bedroom or whatever, that you can kick anyone's ass playing whatever instrument? You Tube sucks for reminding me always that there's always a heck of a better player than you out there! =) Awesome playing man!

  • @tggpk1 I think it just means any mode with 7 notes.

  • just one word: MARVELOUS. thanks. Chick will appreciate, for sure.

  • @sette8vi Thanks!

  • Don't understand the dislikes. I've listened to Chick since Romantic Warrior and been to several of his concerts.

I find this very tasteful and respectful of the Great Composer Chick Corea.

  • cant stop listening to this!

  • i get tears in my eyes watching you play this every time, beautifully done

  • @endlessrskies Thank you!

  • Technical prowess aside, that's one heck of a transcription undertaking. One cannot find better! Thx for the inspiration 7note!

  • @gregoryusa1 Thanks! I keep promising myself to learn Sibelius. It's on my to do list!

  • It's absolutely incredible how your hands FLY over the keys. Beautiful.

  • @Pirateaddict4 Thanks so much!

  • @7notemode man you rock you know one thing gets me about youtube is that people can listen to this wonderful playing of yours and press the unlike button and yet there is music on here that is shity and awful played people that dont know what the hell they are doing and people love that shit im confused by this you are amazing

  • Well played!

  • Very good playing, answer me to the question, please... Are you a classical pianist?

  • @Alike1553 Only as a kid taking lessons.

  • Beautiful!

The rake 4:33 was a very cool special effect.

  • @AGpraise lol

  • fine job.. love this tune

  • Time is the essence that paces people to move in such manner that we do. But there is also a need for us to pace on time . . . Crystal Silence

  • @Passageredenotes Thank you, Passageredenotes! I have the piano voiced so that the sound is balanced. Thanks for noticing. :-)

  • Thank you! Your playing is wonderful... I just bought my first Real Book, opened it to this page and thought to check on here. You've inspired me big time :)

  • nice sound man........and cool little ''off the road'' impro

nice idea of just playing the esscence of the song....great job.

check out my short guitar version.....see you

  • Expectacular Mi llego al alma!

  • awesome, guau, great, ufff!

  • I can't believe this got negative votes, I've been a Chick Fan since RTF. This id beautifully done. Bravo!!

  • Just marvelous! No words needed. I'll stop here as often as possible to straighten ma paths of life. Risky, but it's better than the original song!

  • I just have to know how long did you try to learn this song and where did you get this sheet music. (By the way I like the Steinway, great piano)

  • oh so happy to find this beautiful piece xx solitude in silence for me many years ago

  • that was beautifully played, almost brings tears to my eyes, thanks for uploading!!!

  • Really Amazing!!!!

  • This was amazing thanks

  • Beautiful

  • A brilliant example of temo variations superimposed on chordal changes. From the man who once sharply critcised the young Wintom Marsalis.

  • This is not bad. I mean, technically Yanni is more proficient, but this guy has some serious potential!

  • excellently done, just what I was looking for tonight

  • Labai gražu (Y) :)

  • almost sure I've commented on this masterful piece in the past. Just stop by from time to time to enjoy the journey of "Crystal Silence"

  • @courageux28 Thanks!

  • WOW that's was fantastic!

    beautiful sounding piano you have

  • you play really well :) and you also have a beautiful sounding piano.....what is it??

  • Steinway B. Thanks.

  • Super-Piano-Man! :))

  • 5 minutes ago i´ve heard Sleep away from Bob Acri for the first time and i loved it. Now i found this beautiful piece and i´m in love with this kind of music

    Thank you

    played very emotional

  • e un geniu!

  • Very nice playing. 5*

  • Who are you? You played this piece so beautifully. And I can see your slender hands so lightly on the piano. And the piano is a beautiful instrument, it has a lovely tone. The music and your slight fingers tranfixed me, thanks again, I put it on my favorites list.

  • Thanks, alanheckdreamteam. Unfortunately, hands are the only thing slender :-)

  • fantastic stuff man truely riveting and inspiring work of music...executed brilliantly

  • Thanks, AlienEnigma84. And Thanks everyone for the really nice comments.

  • can someone write the progression out???

  • this is terrific ! great job

  • Beautiful.

  • Sounding exactly like one of the best jazz pianist in modern history speaks volumes. Awesome!

  • This is soo peaceful yet so ferocious, and by ferocious i mean quite riddling. I can't explain but this is truly beauty for the ear.

  • Chick is the most creative of all the big name jazz pianists in terms of voicings and intervalic combinations. He creates tasteful melodies and harmonies as well. He has got a solid rhytmic conception as well which I guess comes from the fact that he is a trained drummer. This is music and not for senseless showoff display. Appropriate.

  • Hey nice! this is pretty cool

  • From Spain. My baby only sleeps with this song, but played by you. Thanks a lot.

  • Haha! The highest compliment I have received, femagon.

  • Chick would be jealous

  • ha! highly doubtful, masternick, but thanks for the sentiment!

  • My son told us we would love this. We did, its incredible. So soulful, the sense of time is sublime - masterful. WARNING - you might be moved to tears (me & my husband were).

  • eveandstan, your comment made my day! Thanks.

  • If you like interesting modal changes, there is a song from Star Wars, "Princess Leah's Theme" I had the sheet music but have misplaced it. I would love to hear you cover that!

  • mrdandrea, hmmm, never heard of it.

  • Voilà! Man, to be you ... I could just chill with a song or two. I guess you picked it up by ear?

  • Yes, by ear. Thx.

  • Wow - this is REALLY good. No just really good for an amateur on youtube - but really good in any context. I note that you don't gig and play "for your own enjoyment". Well, I would happily pay to hear you play. You have great melodic and harmonic conception plus the technique to enable all that to get to your fingers!

Give up the day job and do what you love!

  • Thanks, ltbmuse.

  • this is really good man but it sound and fit much better with a fender rhodes...

  • I enjoyed your playing. Your technique is mature. I have listened to other YouTube performances of Crystal Silence and your is the most satisfying by far. Also appreciate the high quality of the recording and your instrument. Sounds like a Yamaha to me? Is it? C5? G5? What kind of mic(s)? Thanks for the treat.

  • Thanks, SentientClump.

    It's a Steinway B and I use B&K 4006 mic's.

  • Fantastic! Really fantastic!

  • i almost cry, amazing !!!

  • Thank you yoavon22.

  • This man is a genius. I have been a fan for about 13 years. I never get tired of what I hear from Chick.

  • this is great man

  • Fantastic. I like the slowness and haunting feeling you've captured. Great stuff 7note

  • you'r absolutly amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

    incredible and emotional playing....

  • I wish I could take lessons from you. Do you have any advice for a fellow upcoming jazz pianist?

  • Listen to and emulate great jazz recordings. If you get your timing down, everything else will fall into place. Best of luck to you and thanks.

  • really beautiful man. great feel

  • Marvellous!

  • Man, your rendition is excellent! I'm learning this wonderful tune to play in duo with a violin, and I'll probably use your video as the main reference for my accompaniment ideas.

Anyways, you're great, keep up the good work!

  • This is the best rendition of this gorgeous song I've ever heard. Whoever's playing it has caught the real spirit of the piece. His style is both original and masterfull. This is a remarkable musician playing here. He's the real mccoy.

  • Good Job! Your a Real Pro!..I Admire How you Play...I Wish i Could Learn,Just like you :( Even if im just a Kid..Just 15 Years Old...

  • Very nice arrangemen. Some 25 years ago I purchased a small book with this tune and some of Chic's childrens songs. There was even an address to write to Chic. Well now I'm not sure if I still have this book as I would always lend things out and never see them again. Beautiful playing 7notemode!!!

  • I never listen to jazz but I am completely hypnotized by your performance! Very very very very beautiful :)

  • Well, I don´t understand to much about Jazz music, but I play piano too and I could say that the taste and sound of your music is awsome, and continue like that (you should make a CD =D)

  • i'm lovin da musik!!!! i've been playin keyboard for a few years and i arrange a little. watching you really makes me crave the next level. does anyone have any ideas as far as how and what to practice...what are the great books and dvd's related to piano and keyboard....what are the great bands or artist(any genre)...should i focus on becoming good at reading sheet music... anything that's going to help me grow musically ( even diffrent ideas from the questions that i posted) i'm open to.

    Jared

  • in love w/this piece...playing it as a guitar duet at my university's guitar studio recital...part of the beauty of corea's comp. style is its incredible versatility in regards to instrumentation...I'll try to get a recording of our performance

  • this piece is totally beautiful and elegantly played with precision and accuracy! This is simply breath-taking! Very well done!

  • amazing piano playing... Absolutely amazing.

  • beautiful!!

  • Thanks!

  • absolutely beautiful i love this song

  • Did you have any help finding out how to play this song or did you play it all by ear? If you had sheet music or a lead sheet of it, could you scan it and send it to me through email please?

  • soultaker, it's all by ear. I think the Real Book has a lead sheet, though.

  • Whats a lead sheet? im really curious

  • beautiful work man good inspiration for my band

  • Boston Grand? Whether it is a Boston or not, it's still a beautiful piano.

    Awesome playing. Keep it up!

  • It's a Steinway B...

(according to 7notemode himself - "'round midnight" - comment)

  • anyone know where i can find sheet music for this?

  • i play a little piano....this piece is very beautiful...it instantly calms me when i hear it it makes me think of rain...

  • I love the techniques that you use for improvising. It seems that you have an infinite supply in your arsenal.

I love the piano sound too. Steinway?

Also, how do you compare your digital and acoustic? How is the feel different?

    Thanks, and keep playing. =)

  • I wish I could play as beautifully as you. How long did you take lessons?

  • Thanks, patncmc. I've been playing since 9, quit formal lessons at 16, took some jazz lessons at 26.

  • beautifull :)

  • beautiful

  • some pieces work so well with only piano...I'm a saxo so i'm naturally wanting to play the head on my horn but I'm afraid it might not be the right voice for this tune...Beautiful work man...thanks...

  • I find most piano songs can be implemented beautifully on a classical or acoustic guitar.
