At the end of the day; Top Gear, whilst generally enjoyed, is not representative of the British public. Thus, no matter what guest is featured; the reaction to such a feature is circumstantial. In this case - I think it was a pretty decent interview. He seems like a decent guy, and his quip regarding Tom Cruise was enjoyable at the very least. :)

At some point you have to move past that, he made choices in his past that will always be with him and that is his falut; but, again, he's not that person anymore and hasn't been for a long time and he has to move on from that as well. That's not to say he shouldn't feel any guilt over it anymore though.
