funny how many people are "inspired" by documentaries like this one and then turn around and say "but everything's complicated right now, next year" until there are no more years left.
This doc definitely captures the adventure, excitement, fear, bliss, and heartbreak of the backpacking life.. Those emotions we, travellers, feel and share but are unable to show or explain to our loved ones back home.. My travels have changed the course of my life. It's all I want to do for the next 10 years!
I planned my journey for a long time now and next year I turn 18 and finish my a-level, and as soon as i get it I will be on the road with my backpack. I LOVE travelling and it is my biggest dream to travel around in Europe for at least till the winter breaks in, maybe even through the winter and just LIVE. I am so tired of school and all the rules i got to follow - I just want to be free one time in my life and start travelling whereever the wind blows me.
Just got my DVD today. Its awesome. The only question I have is how do you make a sustainable living whilst travelling? Say, I run out of money and the only option seems to be home, there must be ways to earn some extra cash on your journeys to keep you going that little bit further.
this is sooo cool! i've got to tour my country first (Philippines) then take on the world! i have to say i really envy first world citizens who don't have that much difficulty obtaining visas as we do here...thanks for this vid..
I always loved travel. But This Movie (among other sources) inspired me a year ago to make long-term world travel my immediate goal. Something I never thought possible before. I saw this and was just like: "Yeah. THIS IS IT. I CAN do this. I HAVE to do this. Now in 3 months I will go on my epic 1 year long trip. Thank you. Thank you so much for the inspiration you provided.
I love travelling. Anybody with a bit of cash and an open-mind can do it. I'm off to Asia and Australia for a year in a couple of months and I can't wait to get On The Road again! :)

Phphp.. This guy is a complete fag. This movie was awful.. The only good thing I could say about the movie is; that it MIGHT spark the interests of some would-be travelers to learn more about backpacking. Although; they would be gaining very little understanding of a typical travel experience.. I recommend reading multiple books, and partaking in different forums to get a real sense of what to look forward to. With the right research it's not hard to plan a trip.
This is one of my main goals in life. I already had it in mind but this really made me see that i could turn a dream into a reality. what good is life if you're too scared to experience it?
IT seems like this movie captures the essence of backpacking. I've done se asia and Im' aboutto aids work in kenay then backpack india. It's so much fun to do
I really enjoy travelling, but don't think I could do it for longer than a few weeks though. Always feel like "nothing can beat this" and then I go home haha^^
this upcoming summer im doing a month trip with a couple buddy's through europe but i plan to do a year long trip across the world by myself similar to this guys. my mom did it back in the 80's but everything was much less expensive then, im doing it just gotta get the money. this movie makes me want to do it now
I really wanna travel europe to but im to scared to go all alone. im very anti social an from what i saw you definitally need people skills. wow this film really opened my eyes to a way of life I never thought so many people wanted to travel like me and see the world anyways any advice for a nervous 21 year old on backpacking the UK? please send a PM
one of the most important parts of traveling is meeting all the interesting people along the way. you just gotta get past you're introverted ways and open up to people. if you do this you'll make great friends along the way.
I think there are two things. the first is that you break out of your existing social circle which is a liberating feeling and move forward expecting new contacts and the second is the places.. the history and natural beauty..
i wish and wish i could do this and someday i will !!
maybe this summer i will leave !!! i hope only to have the courage to make the first step ! when i'll be out of my city it's totally another life !!! keep on travel guys ...
I was truly inspired and amazed by what i saw on this documentary the decision this man made to leave a prestigous job to the travel around the world as a backpacker he left the comforts of a highly paid and promising career to seek the adventures, thrills and disappointments of round the world travel shows a person with the courage to follow his dreams and not the pathway of others your documentary was part of my inspiration to travel and responsible for the tears i cried
i saw this on nat geo adventure (philippines) too and it was brilliant. initially i thought i was the only one who was overwhelmed by how alone you become when you're already out there. very comforting to know that everyone goes thru the jitters and it's just a matter of taking it to your own hands.
what your oz buddy kym's said abt the phases and pace of romance is so hilariously SPOT-ON i couldn't help but laugh everytime i watch it.
mad props, i'm definitely catching pt 2 this week!
Hey does any one have experience on motorcycle trips across continents? I am planning a trip across africa from south africa to egypt. I want to tell the stories of the many many NPO and aid organizations and the lives they are helping and getting back to normal. If you have producing experience and motorcycle repair down I have the camera and editing talent. Give me a shout on my youtube Channel home page and I will get back to you. Peace and keep traveling.
I just saw this a few nights ago and also cried. I too studied abroad for a couple months...and I can't get that yearning to travel out of my system. I miss it everyday too.
Saw this when Brook screened it at the hostel in New York I was staying at. It was near the end of my big trip and everything everyone said it the film is so true. Excellent movie/doco.
seen it 3-4 times on natgeo and i still get goosebumps (even a little teary). the little speech near the end, where brook says "the people are the places, and they've moved on...", absolute winner. it's inspired me to set a date (a year and a half from today) to begin my eternal saturday. easily one of my top ten favorite documentaries.
good luck! jus thinkin about doing it is inspiring... i've been putting a huge amount of thought but i have to wait till the time is right before i can even set a date... i jus hope i dont loose my motivation when the time comes, but i doubt i will loose it, ive been thinkin seriously about it for a while
The entire documentary encapsulates what it feels like as a traveler and backpacker - a superb show - for those who have done it before, you just relive that experience!
Just watched the whole video... much of this was spot on. You don't know that you can handle being so weary, but the alternative is even more unbearable. Well done, sir.
Well done. I have ordered a DVD from your site and can't wait to get it. I have done an 18 month trip myself and now my only goal is to go again. This time forever.
A man, its nice to see that your video is working. We actually meet in Costa rica, santa theresa, in last november and thats where a saw your movie. i wanted to buy it but you sold the last that you had to an another girl thats was there Grrrr :( if i go home someday ill buy a copy. take care man keep up your good work. do you have any other ideas for a futur movie to direc?

It might be "long the road" by Jimmy Khoury, he has a website you can listen to them and says that it was used in the movie.

Have done several low-budget work-and-journey treks, including 18 months in Asia, and a winter trip through Europe and Morocco.
All are the stuff of my dreams and my conversations.
Reading about it just isn't the same.
