  • I really love this song! P.J. is great!!!

  • This performance was 10 years ago. Now PJ Proby does interviews full of absurd stories about him being Melissa's Gilbert's godfather, wearing a mop top before he'd even heard of the Beatles, and singing with Elvis in Texas in 1953!!

He also sells copies of "demos" he says he did for Elvis. I can't see him selling many. Yathink maybe collectors realize anybody could record a song and then try to sell it years later as a demo cut for ELVIS? Few people are the suckers PJ Proby thinks they are.

  • @glenfound ...and your contribution to music fans Worldwide is ...?

  • @GoldenOldiesOn45RPM Do you think he's donated his income to his fans all these years? Where'd you get that idea? He's not giving anything away. He's peddling lies about other performers and misrepresenting what he sells. If an auto manufacturer sells you a piece of junk, you think you shouldn't complain just because you haven't designed anything better? Maybe you don't think at all.

  • One of the greatest male singers in rock history !!!!!!

  • Great timing, a great performer and can hit the high notes just like he did when he was twenty one.

  • Hardly differernt his voice and style compared to the 60s

  • He is still a great showman - and the voice is great too!

  • Awesome piece of history!! Long LONG live PJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful man!!!!!

  • I've loved PJ since I first heard him when I was a very young girl, so sorry he was treated so badly by the estabishment, put he's still going strong

  • Fantastic performance, from a top, top artist.

  • Sheer Class!

  • As good if not better than his original recording from the end of 1964.

  • great

  • PJ was and still is amazing - one of the best.

  • Hello! First of all, our blog is not and has NEVER been pay for click! (And though we don't write for stats we know that over the last few years thousands have read some part of it. We've never taken any money for advertising on our blog either. PJ has been a friend of mine since the 1960's. Both PJ and I have several long time friends in common so if not in constant contact there is always a connection.

  • @CTNWB Which one of those "friends in common" told you the Beatles opened for PJ Proby? Or was it PJ Proby himself? Casually posting crock like that is typical of the misinformation spewing forth from the pages of your blog. Rather than a site that educates readers about the music scene, it's an exercise in fabrication, self aggrandizement, and redundant information copied from other internet sites like youtube.

  • WES BRYAN here. PJ's not only still got it but he's been one of the hardest working people I ever met in the music business! He loves to perform and so he has, young or old,. living in a castle and having the Beatles open for him or going from one small venue to the next on the road in England. We blog on PJ at Wes Bryan- My Life in Music and I am proud to know him!

  • @CTNWB

When was the last time you went to a PJ Proby show? This video is 10 years old so how do you know what he's got? When did the Beatles ever open for PJ Proby? Not in a million years!

And what would you know about working hard? All you do is post spam on youtube about your blog (PAY-PER-CLICK obviously) that describes your famous past that never happened and famous friends who don't have a clue who you are.

  • Saw pj in England last October 2010, he was fabulous still and I was one of his original fans from the 60's. What a voice still. Love that bad guy!!!

  • Check out Dave Lennard if you get the chance hes a new fantastic singer that didn,t make it past the first audition of Britains got talent

  • i am 60 of years of age and i saw this this guy in my youth, what the hell! he still sounds the same , awesome

  • Did I not see PJ on Oppertunity Knocks years ago? Hughie Green intoduced him as the masked man. He must have been trying to restart his career.

  • My favourite singer of all-time ... when I was a teenager I became obsessed and spent endless hours scouring the record stores of Melbourne, Australia for any "new" (to me) tidbit ... He always managed to be different and interesting - even when he was "bad" ... and when he was good ... well !!! Amazing he is still alive, let alone still able to sing !!

  • Comment removed

  • saw him last night at dartford, still got a great voice for his age 72

  • IT'S STILL YOU PJ.

    YOU KNOW THAT.

  • GLAD TO SEE PJ STILL SINGING - I HEARD HE WAS LIVING IN A B&B ON BENEFITS SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDLANDS - MAYBE HE HAS MADE A COMEBACK (THANK GOODNESS)

  • damn good no doubt but not elvis completely different package!

  • We went to see PJ at the iCC in Birmingham about 3 years ago with a friend who was pre the PJ era, We all loved the show and our friend was forever a fan from that moment on.

  • love him xx

  • Majestic.

  • IT`S SAID HE FILLED IN FOR ELVIS ?

  • In his younger days he was`nt wired too good - but i know from fact he`s a nice guy.

  • This video was made almost 9 years ago. If his new CD is any indication of how PJ sounds now, I'll pass on his shows in 2010. I'd rather sit back and listen to the Legend CD, spin his 60's records and remember how good he once was. If ladies of a certain age choose to spend their money to possibly hold his hand, they can have at it.

  • @kendall156

I saw PJ recently, and he was brilliant, you should see him if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed.

    Heather

  • Thanks for the share

  • HE`S STILL GOT THE VOICE.

  • P.J Is an amazing singer

i have met him twice he is such a nice person

i think i am like the youngest fan he has got :L

  • I see that PJ has written the foreward for a soon to be published Christian book written by a supporter. Could it be that the singer who founded the Nymphette Club for young girls in the sixties, was fined for attacking his secretary with an axe in the seventies, recorded M97002 Hardcore in the eighties, and spent time in the penitentiary for beating up his girlfriend in the nineties, has decided to change his image?

  • This is reallly brilliant considering the years that have passed.

  • My sister was PJ`s biggest fan, and sung his songs around the house all the time - good times .. xx

  • p g proby, the man with the ten foot toby. legend

  • One of the few top men still around...wonderful voice!!! Ron

  • magic, proper entertainer love this performance better than when he made it

  • P.J. There is a place for you. A place where there's peace and quiet, away from all those who seek to defame you and knock you down.

    Keep on singing.

    WE LOVE YOU PJ.

  • his voice sounds a combination of Elvis Presley and Tom Jonesl, just my opinion.

  • To those that doubt how great this man is listen to an original release, and than listen to this, take into account the age diffrence ......and the fact he is still with us! Thank you for sharing.

  • @msfyn It's amazing how many people have went their entire lives not knowing the difference between "then" and "than".

  • Don't be so damn critical. Consider that he was rockin it up way back in the sixties before most of you foul-mouthed boobs were even born. Granted, he over dramatizes his singing, but will any of you be able to sing like that in 40 years from now?

  • I saw P J here in Aussie way back then and i still consider his live show to be one of the best i have attended, he didn't have the use of all the modern technology that today;s performers have but you are talking about a man who was considered good enough to refine quite a lot of Elvis Presley's songs so that they were ready for The King to record without much delay.

  • Many are called but only few are chosen.

  • what a load of CRAP!!

PJ never had is tackle hanging out.

    get your facts right.

regarding beckham hes an overated NOTHING.

  • I feel sorry for you as you must be tone deaf, how much of his music have you heard?

  • At the moment im p.js youngest fan untill i get about 30 and iv met him pictures n everyfink

  • Good on you Melanie2k9

It's lovely to see that P.J. has a new fan from the younger generation. You have good taste in Music and I hope P.J. is still around when you get to 30.

  • Goodonyer Melanie2k9, I saw him live in Melbourne Australia, I think I was about 18/19 years old way back then, when he sang "SOMEWHERE" the audience clapped and cheered for ages, a magnificent voice.

  • Benhal, I am sooo envious! But I saw someone just as good, the Big O in Festival Hall.:)

  • Hi again, I saw Roy Orbison a few times at festival Hall and I remember once one of his guitarists got an electric shock and was jumping all over the stage until one of the others kicked the guitar out of his hands, he was taken to hospital but was ok,Roy was absolutely fantastis which I am sure you would agree. continued......

  • Wow! What a concert to remember! The night I attended, in February 1967, some mongrel stole Roy's guitar after the concert. The compere was very tactful, saying he understood how Roy's fans wanted souvenirs....it was returned eventually. The supporting acts that night were The Yardbirds, and Johnny Young

  • I saw Johny Cash at festival hall twice and also Neil Young, my first concert I attended was at the Palais where I saw The Rolling Stones, I will never forgrt Mic Jagger dressed in leopard skin trousers (fake skin I am sure)it all seems so long ago now, take care, Rabbie

  • I am green with envy! I never did see the Stones. Wagged school in 1965 to go to the airport, and got lost! Mick was soooo androgynously cute when he was young! He had the face of a lecherous angel.

  • I am not sure if you know or not but Eric Clapton was an origonal member of the Yardbirds, they were a great band, I saw Mic Jagger again in the 80's,the rest of the band were not with him but he had a at least 10/12 others backing him, great show.

  • Thanks- I hadn't known that. Yes, Mick is the ultimate showman- he gives 110% every time and shows no sign of slowing down, which is fantastic. I'm proud that he's half Aussie!

  • GUESS WHAT, I never knew his mother was born in Australia, but you are certainly right, can't for the life of me figure out why I have never known that, was it a well known fact?, Rabbie.

  • Pretty well known, I think, but she moved to UK when she was reasonably young, so I suppose she became Pommified after a while :) Mick has rellos in Sydney whom he visits when touring here.

  • It just goes to show that one never stops learning, thank you for the info, I have seen a lot of interviews and a couple of documentories on Mick but I can't recall him speaking of his parents, anyway onto other singers, do you dig Neil Diamond or Bob Dylan and how about THE BAND ?

  • Neil Diamond does nothing much for me, though I liked him with Streisand in "You don't bring me flowers". Dylan's "It Ain't Me, Babe" still thrills after 45 years, but a lot of his stuff leaves me cold. Where folk is concerned, I prefer PP & M. Or the great Alan Stivell. What part of Oz are you in?

  • NOW you are talking, Alan Stivell, Celtic harp, my sister-in-law plays the harp and I am right into Celtic music as my heritage is Celtic and I can speak reasonable Gaelic. I live about 70klms southeast of Melbourne in a small village on Westernport Bay, music and photography are my two main loves/hobbies.

  • My grandma spoke a little, but I never grasped it -the spelling is a nightmare, and that's even AFTER it was simplified !! Where are you/your ancestors from? Mine hailed from the Hebrides and Ulster.

Alan Stivell = God. I am in Williamstown, a very trendy peninsula! I have a harp for sale.

  • I recently participated in a gene trail which showed that my ancesters came fron the Scandinavian area (probably vikings)they went to Ireland and then to the Scottish Highlands, my sister and I have traced our family back to the 1300's, we are members of Clan Fraser, you are of good stock with ancestors from The Hebrides, i have visited several of the islands and the beauty is overwhelming. A Williamstown trendy hey, I played a bit of football for Port Melbourne.

  • Port Melbourne??? Snort! Spit! Ptui! A pox and a plague on them!!! No true seagull can ever associate with those pariahs! :)

I'm probably of Viking stock, too. My clan produced a few kings.Where did you learn

    ( gasp, moan, shudder) Gaelic?

  • Hello , how are you, I mentioned to you that my Sister-in law played the harp and you had one for sale, can you tell me more about it, size etc, regards, Rabbie.

  • Just recalled- I think the Walker Brothers were also a supporting act for Roy that night. What a concert!! Roy got God knows how many standing ovations, and any Melburnian knows how rarely we give them! Saw him on every successive Aussie tour. I adored him and it broke my heart when he died, just as I was wondering if "Mystery Girl" was his finest effort... RIP, Big O. Yours was a tragic life in many ways, but you had the voice of a god.

  • I saw him at the "Live" Elvis show in London. He is brilliant but never sticks to the script. Shame drink got the better of him but he can still sing.

  • This man this recording rates with the best

    westluxnick age 68

  • hes from above not from here !!!

  • he was as good as elvis - and he`s still alive.

  • Hes better than elvis.

  • hey crystalcut , he married best elvis!!

  • lol ,

  • i see you still think this piss pot is better than the real king, and why do you call yourself theBESTelvis, because you think deep down thats what elvis is,the BEST...ha ha ha ha,you butt plug....ha ha ha......

  • HEY..gay bar20, or whatever it is you call yourself, why post youre BULLSHIT comments all over PJs footage you fookin ars hole.

GET A LIFE... YOU SAD PRICK !!!

  • he made a song for me , you know that @amamda@ well he changed the words @ miranda@ light or my life!

  • "... someawhere ... there's a place foraus ... someawhere!"

  • he is a true living legend with that voice of his, saw him play live a year ago and hes voice was just awwsommme!!!

    He is a legend.

    Many Thanks

    Barry

  • auch heute als fast 70jähriger noch ein toller mann ...

  • P.J.Proby. He's like Gold, tested and tried in the fire and yet still stunning enough to hold very near and dear. Yes, I've held that right hand several times. He has the most strong, yet very warm and wonderful handshake.

    KEEP SINGING THAT SONG P.J.

  • TOP CLASS.... AND "THE" BEST.

  • HE IS TOP CLASS & "THE BEST" and Noone will ever change my mind about about him.

  • Sorry for repeating myself. I just can't help but say it again and again, Nobody will ever come close to P.J. and nobody will ever succeed in changing my mind about how GOOD P.J. PROBY REALLY IS.

  • me neither... HE IS "THE" BEST....

  • Such a great song by a great singer, love it greatings from Holland

  • Its only when you see Proby singing live that you realise the true greatness of the man.He is a true genius and his voice is awesome,no one can measure up.

  • Couldnt agree with u more, BUT...i still dont except that you say hes elvis,s half brother ,

    PROVE IT ??

  • Fantasic singer and a bit it of a flawed genius perhaps, but then history is littered with them. Forty years plus in the business and still going strong. Under-rated? Just a bit.

  • If you dont like it you must have a screw loose. You dont know a good singer when you hear one.

  • yes..hygrenmikael must be a complete nut case.

this guy is awesome, INCREDIBLE VOICE. and the only star ever to have a huge hit with this song. many recorded and released it and it bombed as a single for them.

  • don´t like it

  • Fantastic! This was the first record I ever bought!

I missed the Worthing gig through illness...but a few years ago he came to Dome Brighton...I was one of the saddoes who ran up to the front. It was worth it because he held my hand.....swoon!

  • What a voice - what a man

  • I saw PJ in Worthing. Awesome, this man is special.I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was gobsmacked, he should be doing huge stadium gigs with his talent.I am 46, so, very young when he started out. I had the privilage of shaking his hand at the end of the concert.

  • arr pj he is superb i saw him in blackpool a couple years ago he was brillent

  • pj proby looks the image of vernon presley.Has anyone else noticed this?

  • totally....how did he start those early elvis demos? If JFK jnr is now revealed to have a son , why not Vernon? It is so obvious that Vernon kept him close, and paid a few bills. PJ always knew......

  • hey , i met him in 60s he was proper weird, slept with a gun under his pillow ? met him in 70s was quite different ? quiet ? dont know ?

  • my grandad knew him in the 60's and i knew him in the 80's : the gun was based on the knowledge that he was the son of Vernon presley; and Elvis had found out. Man, Elvis learnt to hate PJ ( he did song demos for El..before he knew)......

  • proby was not miming.I was there sitting in the front seats.

  • hes miming

  • Is he hell!

  • I am twenty years old and me and my friends love to go and hear pj sing his voice is better than all the so called male singers.

  • all i want for christmas is pj proby

  • pj is in the world but not of the world

  • Went to see PJ last night 19th oct, At the palace theatre newark. FANTASTIC SHOW. if you have not seen any of mr probys shows..you dont know what your missing........HE IS BACK...Thank god. jilly

  • Maestro.

  • Just great. looking forward to seeing PJ on 19TH OCT 07. at the palace theatre newark notts.

  • PJ sounds as good as ever...saw him many times on stage back in 1964 'Somewhere' was always my favourite song of his

  • just been reading magazine in the sunday independant. What a sad childhood I think God has gifted this voice to pj for a reason. We must never abuse the gifts we are given, thankfully pj has been given another chance.

  • You are right on both counts TY - PJ has overcome so much trauma from childhood onwards and yes...God has gifted this man, and next year is going to be really special for him I believe....Hannah x

  • pj still has the best male voice in the world. He is a great performer even now.

  • takes your breath away

  • we will be happy when pj comes to perform again in Blackpool.Gives a good show everytime.

  • be glad when pj comes to blackpool. He really gives a brilliant performance everytime.

  • I have just been reading the previous comments about this video and I can honestly say I never even noticed the drummer at first. Can I just say that knowing P. J. Proby the way I do, no way would he accept a musician he wasn't happy with, if it bothered him he would say something and if this particular performance by the drummer had bothered him, he would have given him the evil stare he is known for, he wouldn't have lasted one performance if Jim wasn't happy with him.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this. I saw him at Hemel Hempsted on this tour and he was brilliant. Hard to believe he was almost 63 in this clip, his voice is as strong as ever, its so sad he never got the recognition he deserved.

  • what a voice

  • waited all night until pj came on stage at blackpool opera house to close the show.He was fantastic,he was the best artiste of the night.

  • im smitten all over again

  • pj proby was cheated out of his singing carrer. but they cant take his beautiful voice away from him. that is a gift he was born with and will last through eternity.

  • when you get to 50 your voice is supposed to lose its power. he sounds tremendous.he,s beaten the theory.

  • this gentleman is a better singer than all the tom jones/humperdicks put together.love him to bits.

  • I LOVE PJ PROBY I WANT TO MARRY HIM

  • im 20 years old and in love with this legend.he is the next best thing to elvis and he was good friends with him 2.pj has been through alot and he deserves more respect.his emotions have been damaged by critics and he has battled his way to make a come back to entertain us with his lovely voice.he didnt have to you no! mwah big kiss for you pj ! x

  • After 3 standing ovations at Blackpool Uj on 14th July this man is going places!! Make sure you see him on his 4 gig Autumn tour or you`ll be sorry! ;0)

  • istill love the man

  • pj proby is the best singer in the world he can rip my pants anytime

  • that drummer should be shot, people came to see the singer not hear the drummer. He is part of the group backing the singer not vice versa

    Aussie Pete

  • If Proby had been standing in front of the Bass player and you could not see the drummer you would not have made that comment. The drummer played as he was told to play by Proby himself. If you saw the complete concert you would know this. If anyone needs shooting it's you! Get a life!

  • gee boohoo, oops I cant spell either. You sure take things seriously. And you reckon I should get a life. Aussie Pete

  • HOPE PJ COMES TO BLACKPOOL AGAIN

  • love ya PJ- oldies get better with time. still rip ya pants?

  • Unbelievable he's even better than in the 60's

I have never heard him sing 'Somewhere' since the 60's, far out the key changes BRILLIANT!

    NZ loves you PJ

I know you'll never come back here, I was afraid to watch this vid as I have such great memories, it is sooooo good.

  • Saw him last year with the 'Ring of Fire' Johnny Cash tribute, which took up the first half of the show. Absolutely awesome. We thought that was it - that was all that was advertised, then he came on as himself for the second half - and it was even better. I'm 57, male and was screaming for more like a teenage girl in the 60's.

  • stick him back on tv he can still outperform these young pretenders

  • legend

  • PJ is touring later this year so keep an eye on the Official website for UK details!

  • james marcus smith ( pj ) a true giant of a singer, i caught him in the late 60s in a rock version of othello called catch my soul, with producer jack goode and pp arnold, make no mistake a true giant

  • not just a great singer but a great man, caught his demons and threw them out. not sure if thst was ok but had a voice in the 60s and still has. keep going jim

    stromlossit

  • for ur information edmondsongs pj loved the backup band including the drummmer so before u go throwing your words around find the facts first... Idiot

  • hey idiot known as mr mudclub u pillock thats my dad so bck up ur bloody words before u make fun of him

  • Hey dickhead known as mrmudclub thats my dad u pillock before u make fun of him try to bck up ur words

  • Whats up with the drummer ,is he after a solo record deal or what I think his name is Paul or Patrick or something anyway P.J dump him.

  • Yes that's right it is from the Beat Goes on Tour in 2001. My relative is the "said" Drummer in previous posts and i think your comment Mr MudClub is highly inappropriate particularly when I believe you have worked with him several times before!!

  • hey dickhead thats my dad pillock ide like see u try

  • Great vocal P.J. but get rid of the drummer

  • I agree, I had a band for 10 year.,.. the drummer is awful.. !! You can tell he's putting PJ off ... he'd put anyone off...!! terrible shed builder ..!!

  • If you knew anything about PJProby you would know that he sings with his finger in his ear, that is his trademark, and he wasn't put off by the drummer. I know the drummer you are slagging off and he is a consumate professional who has worked with Proby for over 8 years, so if he was that bad do you think Proby would have put up with him for so long? You were obviously dumped by a drummer which makes you so awful to all drummers! Get over it you sad bitch and let real musicians do their job!

  • Nice one!!! We met PJ Proby in Cheltenham on 1 July and what a lovely friendly person who permitted me to take a photo of him with my husband. Jan

  • P.J.Proby had such a wonderful voice that it's a shame that many don't know or ever heard him sing.

  • "had such a wondeful voice" ??? He still got a wonderful voice !

  • Such a voice! Some of the best songs, like this, are from musicals.

  • Is this From the Australia DVD?

Or the DVD from his Website?

  • This clip is from The Beat Goes On Tour of the U.K. with The Searchers in 2001.

  • Having the tremendous privilige of seeing P.J.Proby live in concert and right in front of me for the first time in 2004, I can say without a doubt that he has an unbelievable voice. When he sang "Somewhere" I had this overwhelming urge to rush up to the stage and shake the hand of the man who made it all possible. P.J. is an Absolute Legend and his sort of talent only comes around once in a lifetime and I am happy to have been there to see him so close up for 5 concerts.
