  • I just found out that this song was done by jars of clay. I was looking for the petra version because they are so good. I think I like that version (Petra) better but this is still good.

  • Legal!!!

  • If anyone out there in youtube land knows of a link or has video lying around of Jars doing this live I'd love to see it on here! I've scoured the internet but can't find it:( They played this song at pretty much all their live shows around 97... Good Memories:) Post em if you got em please:)

  • cool work the vid, i can now better understand the message of this song. i like the interpretation of jars of clay. good guitar solo at the ending.

  • @jmusicpower ...thank you!

  • I love Dan's voice:)

  • I like this one better than the original:)

  • @IdRatherBinADream92 yeah, I think it sounds a little more intense. It gives a bit more desperation to the message.

  • @mrheetmizer 4 a live performance it sounds pretty good.

  • i DON'T LIKE THIS VERSION

  • This version of Petra's great song demonstrates much of what's wrong with not only Christian music, but a large part of the music scene of the last 15+ years; namely, a self-conscious, brooding tone. It's nice to be earnest, but CHEER UP A LITTLE! The Petra version just sounded like the subject matter was "Important." That's good--a song about a serious subject is fine. But this version makes you think the singer is so bummed about it that he's suicidal.

  • @SkaterRingo Even the Petra version is a little dark, and for good reason. This is actually a fairly challenging song towards the church about a serious matter. Why should it be cheerful?

  • @separateunion I should have clarified; I don't mean cheerful as in 'hooray for everybody!' I meant 'cheerful' as opposed to 'moribund and melancholy.' As in this version, so many vocalists sing like they came out of the womb decked in emo gear and have only gotten more and more depressed since then. They sing with an affected air of gravitas that makes them sound hyper-introspective, yet wanting everyone to notice it.

  • @SkaterRingo I get where you are coming from. I've never really gotten that air from Dan Haseltine, though he is quite affected when he performs. To be honest, I'm not as big a fan of Christion music as I used to be. I guess I enjoy listening to bands like Jars still though because they have a bit of gritty reality to their lyrics that I think all of us struggle with but few voice. Any way, at the risk of going on in several tangents here I will stop. Thanks for your comment.

  • This is my all time favorite Petra song. But I realize why JOC had to rearrange the song. There are few who could match Greg X Vols' vocals.

  • I'm a die-hard Petra fan, but this version isn't half bad.

  • I will echo the folks who find Petra's version better. It was a sunny weekday afternoon--day off--I heard the Christian radio DJ announce this version by Jars of Clay. I got excited enuf to pull over, because I luv Jars of Clay. But what a letdown. I still respect JOC, but the original always brought me to tears. My li'l brother, who brought me [seriously] to Christ at age 14, had to translate the words to me. It still moves me. It says "Help thy neighbor, even if you don't know him or her."

  • Doesn't even compare to Petra's version. Petra's version made the point very clear and was a very artistic song. This just overshadows the point and demeans the integrity of Petra's wonderful piece of art.

  • @TheMagicChristian Yes, the music covers up the lyrics

  • sorry but the original Petra version is much better then this

  • I actually like both for different reasons. The original is probably a little more sentimental to me because that is the first Christian music I listened to back in the 80's.

  • I guess that is why I like Petra's version too. It takes me back to being a kid. Also the music and the guitars sound better to me. Just personal taste I guess. You can't beat the way the organ starts out and the guitar fades in. One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.

  • it'd probably help if it wasn't recorded live, a studio version probably would have souned much better, but i still like both versions

  • yeah, the music kind of overshdowas the lyrics.

  • @hoth2112 There is a studio version of this, on a tribute album called Never Say Dinosaur. Still the lyrics are a bit overshadowed. UnkownPetraFan has it posted, v=RUXk8UHJgpQ

  • yes, but these images are good

  • ut on the doorstep lay the masses in decay

Ignore them long enough, maybe they'll go away

When you think you have so much, you have so much to lose

You think you have no lack, but you're really destitute

  • Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows lyrics Another sleepy Sunday, safe within the walls Outside a dying world in desperation calls But no-one hears the cries, or knows what they're about The doors are locked within, or is it from, without... [Chorus:] Looking through rose colored stained glass windows Never allowing the world to come in Seeing no evil and feeling no pain Making the light as it comes from within, so dim... O
  • i mean this live version

  • Kind of found it by accident on Seeqpod. Yeah, awesome version, it's actually about 2 minutes longer-very cool.

  • where you get this version??

    totally love it

  • definitely an underappriecated Jars of clay song. And my favorite petra song.

  • cool video thanks!

  • thank you!
