@sbbe1337 yet never actually "defeated" ANY of the Trinity. The plot has to develop into a morality aspect - is there a right or wrong to what the Flame Haze/Tomogara are doing? In the LN, Yuji actually meets SoF in dreams - so this wasn't that unexpected - though if you didn't know that bit, it'd be quite surprising. Not to mention the ShanaxYuji romance + the Hougu that was given to Yoshida/all the other villains and crap haven't come to an end.

@EstivalRain Yeah it was kinda confusing :/ I still haven't got who this SoF guy really is. When they introduced him they did it in such a way that it felt like we already were supposed to know him. I think that destroyed it a little bit.

when he meets SoF when he's about to confess to Shana. Obviously, he can't confess to her right now - the story would end too soon. 1) Bal Masque isn't defeated or even close to that. 2) All of the side characters that were probably in the LN but not in the anime aren't even given roles yet 3) If the "happy every after" ended right there - it would be way too abrupt. There hasn't been an "epic winner takes all" battle yet. The Flame Haze have always, at the last minute, stopped Bal Masques plots

Towards the end of Season II, you can infer that Yuji is thinking about the fight between Tomogara and Flame Haze in a conceptual base, with his conflicting emotions on whether to leave Misaki City or not. And his emotions cause Shana to feel awkward as well - because she feels that even if Yuji leaves with her it won't be for the same reason as she wants. The thinking about the Flame Haze vs Tomogara "morality" aspect gets drawn to a climax

The thing I mean is that the thing they had going on was good (emotions and such) but the background information, which really is needed to see Season 3 with some understanding, is completely and utterly forgotten. When I jumped from Season 2 to 3 I had NO idea who this SoF guy was and how the hell he ended up inside Yuji. To clarify, I don't think the reason he left is unclear/bad. I just think that they gave everyone waay too little information :/

And actually, Yuji and Shana are both protagonists, depending on your view. My thinking of how Shana III will go

And no, there aren't "random" scenes, it's just that these characters weren't mentioned before because there was no need - in the anime storyline that is. These characters are needed to tell a story of Flame Haze vs. Tomogara all out battle.

I've now figured out what the problem with Season 3 is. The problem is that they changed the perspective so Yuji isn't the Protagonist anymore... We can't hear his thoughts anymore Now, Shana is the only one in the leading role and the rest is just all random scenes from different persons all the time... To top that off they introduced like 10+ more characters we have to remember. Everything is just going waaay too fast...

Well that's obvious because most of season 2 was anime-original slice of life that doesn't exist in the Light Novels. What happened was Yuji was intercepeted by Snake (you already knew this) and he decides to work with Snake to change the world? Why? Because he loves Shana. He realizes that Shana's fate is to keep fighting until she dies - which he feels is pointless. So he tries to change that.

The background information was just a joke. The thing I'm wondering the most about is why Shana is so "I-know-what's-going-on" and isn't even asking herself why the hell Yuji suddenly is the leader of BAL MASQUE that she fought against together with him for 1 whole SEASON... :/
