  • a woman with a voice that just goes up and down the scale of it all, every style she can do it! but she also does it all with originality and grace ;)

  • I knew PJ before, but the "stronger" older songs. I liked them but i wasnt such a big fan. These softer, darker songs of her though, I love them. I didn't have to digest them, i loved them immediately. Its awesome how she transforms and never repeats herself

  • was that a banshi fanale... I love it!:)

  • I hate how the cactus makes it look like she is giving the finger in certain parts of the clip.

  • The 11 people who clicked dislike on this should all be crucified.

  • I feel pain hearing this beautiful song. Strange feeling.

  • Polly is an amazing talent. I hope she'll continue making her beautiful music for a long, long time. I have deep respect for her.

  • Does anyone know how to play this on piano?

  • Why does PJ Harvey sound like haunting memories of the good parts of your childhood that you've forgotten?

  • beautiful sad music

  • It's so beautyfull and intense...it makes me cry...

  • My favorite Album

Most likely one of its best songs.

    Love you PJ

  • I LOVE This Album. I had to throw it out cause it was destroying me in a way. I was going through alot and the beauty of the pain kept me there.

  • @Demoniqueful I totally understand You. I´ve got three or four albums that I have to get rid of but I don´t have the strength yet.

  • v good

  • the horrifying scream in the end is such a beautiful way to express the lyrics and the whole of this dreadful song. To me, that long scream says EVERYTHING.

  • just awesome!

  • piano and voice and soul AND what else to say !!!

  • Thanks Em Kon, I love Polly Jean..amazing talent..

  • ***** :)

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • Simply amazing.

  • What the?

  • La plus belle voix que je n'ai jamais entendu...

  • Pure art!

  • our dance school did this song for a competition contemoprary dance! &hearts it!

  • As a kid, Kate Bush hit me in places I did not even knew I had. Now, 20 years later, Miss Harvey did, with songs like these. Makes me feel like I'm still alive

  • awesome performance

  • GREAT!!! I wish I could sing like that!!

  • Piekna piosenka,co za glos

  • what a voice!!!

  • "For in my own heart, every tree is broken."

My heart weeps on that line. Desolate, deep mourning, isolation, abandonment. Bad, bad memories on the rise.

  • I LOVE IT

  • @thebronzebat

there is no applause because its filmed in a radio station, there is no one else in the room except for camera crew and it is edited.

  • damn it she sure can hit them high notes

  • MY FAV FEMALE ARTIST, pj harvey has touched my heart

  • I would guess that everyone present were too busy collecting their jaws from the floor

  • PJ definitely you're a unique and very talented artist, and you are you and like nobody else ! keep the message alive.

  • Like many others, I agree with jherms74 and don't really have much to add except to say that I was not open to 'White Chalk' in 2007 but 2 1/2 years later something has changed and I am now receptive. A truly extraordinary, chilling performance.

  • fantastic amazing you are truly. Thank you so much. This is exacty how I feel especially the end .

  • amazing ,awesome

  • Oh Jherms74, I have to agree with you, all pj's music grows on you, you may at first be so disapointed...then it finds it's way into your soul, and your smitten forever, bless you Polly, your magicalx

  • Beautiful! <3

  • wow every song on this album takes me to a different place like a journey. Just close your eyes

  • This has to be her best song on White Chalk. Her best song ever!! I am totally in love with it.

  • silence is a lovely song too, in fact all the record is just amazing, even painful, but beautiful

  • To me her music is the ultimate acquired taste. I usually don't like her albums at first but I've learned that with patience I will fall in love with them. That was especially true with White Chalk. I was angry the first time I listened to it. What happened to the force of nature I had been listening to for 15 years?! Now after letting it digest it may be my favorite album of hers.

  • Yes, often the music that you grow to really love was difficult at first. One of the great things about PJ Harvey is that she keeps moving so we haven't been given ten reprises of "Dry"

  • @jherms74 2 years after you posted this but I couldn't agree more. For much the same reasons as you described, I never got into White Chalk when it was released, despite multiple listenings, and it was only recently, during a live webcast of her performance from the Albert Hall, that I realised how amazing these songs were. Her performance of "The Devil" and "Silence" quite literally brought tears to my eyes. She is simply amazing.

  • A voice that tears your heart out. What a giant talent!

  • @haclil Yes I totally agree. Can make me cry and Shout and laugh all at the same time.

  • my favorite female artist.

  • she stayed in trance for a few seconds after she played the song. then she came back into the real world. good song, it was spellbinding.

  • invocation

  • bewitching

  • Goddamnit! PJ, you rule the world.

  • Holy Fuck! This is awesome... and scary!!! I love PJ!

  • This is the first video I've ever heard by PJ Harvey. Mightily impressed with the tools used, things like a slight sharp or flat vocal towards the end, Simple piano melody and chords, aka 3rds 4ths and 5ths to reinforce the meaning of the lyric. These are not commonly used these days at all. The last of the good wave singer songwriters was in the 70's. Good stuff.

  • Beautiful performance

  • Sends chills down my spine... in a good way. =)

  • Sad, a dream... beautiful music

  • This song... is sad. I love it.

  • She makes me kry so much... She brings me in a dream...

  • fuck, watchin' her play that almost gave me a heart attack. so rare.

  • Oh.. you mean Subtle tonal variations that you cant comprehend. fair enough

  • fckng GREAT realy!!!

  • This song is an absolute masterpiece. Astonishing.

  • She is the one!!!!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • some how this song has become something else.

  • Wonderful. Not only your own beauty, PJ. Never in my life have I heard such an emotional piece of music, even compared to the work of Billy Corgan or dredg. It's... Wow. However, the uneducated white trash will still listen to crap like Evanescence and take it for melancholic, it's a shame, but some still have PJ's work, and I never want to miss that album.

  • bla bla bla bla, noob talkin big words =)

  • Oh...my...god. Ineffable beauty.

  • ñaaaa :_

  • One o my favourite ever!!!

  • you seriously have no clue

  • Peej, you have no idea how beautiful you are.

  • Wow....

  • simply stunning

  • Reminds me at times of Blonde Redhead.

  • i agree

  • What the fuck are ye talking about.

  • She's invented a new language.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this video! This is one of my best song from PJ Harvey! This live version feels so much like the studio version which shows again the great talent of PJ.

  • end geil !!! wow i love her !!!!

  • This is music from the clouds,i love pjs white chalk album its my fav next to "is this desire"

  • There is so much more variety in women artists than men. Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, PJ, Bjork, etc. They call and have something to say, unlike the pop singers.

  • aha!:)

  • that's ridiculous and sexist. try leonard cohen, bob dylan, nick cave, neil young, robert plant, antony, daniel johnston, etc... i think we are on equal playing ground here. PJ harvey rawks.

  • Got anything as current. Robert plan kinda hit bottom a while ago...

  • That is a rather sexist comment, are you saying all pop singers are men? There are as many talented men or women in music, in fact i don't even care about their gender as long as I like their music.

  • It's irrelevant, really. It's all about individuality..and PJ is a beautiful individual with a beautiful voice. Why are we even discussing anything else here? :)

  • dresden dolls, rasputina, nellie mckay, regina spektor, b-52s, sarah slean, loreena mckennit, miranda sex garden, etc. going back to the 80s kate bush, laurie anderson, sinead, ricki lee jones, jane silberry, etc.

  • I definitely hear the Diamanda Galas influence here - what a great tune. This song and those high notes just sold the album for me.

  • incredible. thank you!

  • Thank you so much for these wunderful live videos!!!!!!

  • Wao, I saw the whole rare concert for this new album she's releasing and it was amazing, the sounds take you to another world.

    Check out my favorites. :)

  • Hey there PJ Harvey, I left a lengthier response to your new CD, "White Chalk", on my account. What I wrote on my account is the best way I can describe the illumination that I receive when I listen to your music.

I hope you get a chance to read it.

    Thank You,

    GypsySeasMaria

  • she is a ghost

    make me crazy

    i want crazy

  • she's so sad and i just wanna say to the that i can smile whenever she feels like it...

  • it's unearthly.

but why i can't find any piano sheets ? :(

has got someone any Pj's ?

  • the bit at the end... just... wow!

  • Wow. A great talent of our times.

  • Thank you very much for this one! I love the album very much, but the live performances of the new songs are even better!!! :-) I wish, they would have put some of those as bonus-tracks on the new album...

  • Excellent song

  • Great thanks for uploading. This song is brilliant. It's so dreamy... I don't find the album spooky. Rather eerie though very warm and homelike. It somehow reminds me my childhood, still a haven't rised in Yeovil ^^

  • i'm in tears...she's fantastic...what a song...what a performance!!!!! 10 out of ten

  • Gotta love the ending a la Diamanda Galás!!!

  • Classic Goth Spooky Album, just in time... Halloween 07.

  • this album brought me to PJ, and now im a fan :)

    Lovely stunning screaming dark

    White Chalk

  • this is the most moving song I've heard of Polly Jean Harvey's. It's brought me back into to her music.

  • I remember listening in a video that she told that when she listened to her music she imagend a little movie, that probes that PJ is such a creative true artist, I love you!

    thnx 4 the upload!

  • this is my second favorite song off the album (net ot the stunning title track).

the shriek at the end is like the release of all the ghostly tension from the 31 minutes before it.

    amazing.

  • That was really good! I had some doubts when I heard about Ms. Harvey's new musical direction, but wow! I'm very impressed.
