I don't know why the Cat gets a bad rap. I've had DeVille, Eldo, Jag XJ8,XJR, Alfa 164, Eagle Premier ES, '96 Impala SS, Porsche 993, RollsRoyce SilverWraith, lots of Buick's and Olds, but the '98 Black/Black Catera with heated leather, Bose, chrome rims, moonroof that I had was one of the best all around cars that I've driven. It was efficient, smooth, comfortable, refined, and a nice road car with RWD. The suspension ate tires, and the trans was replaced w/ warranty, but I loved that car.
i can't understand why the catera was treated as a 1-car division, instead of being an official cadillac, just the same way the cimarron was at first.
the only things carried over from the Catera to the CTS was the 2003-2004 3.2L engine which was loosely based upon the Catera's 3.0L.
but, the CTS was a replacement for the Catera. The CTS was actually supposed to be called the Catera, but then was changed to CTS (Catera Touring Sedan)
Respond to this video... I disagree. I feel the Catera was one of the nicest Cadillac's of the last 35 years. Underpowered 425's and 368's, Chevy TBI's, and transverse FWD all made for disappointing Caddy's. The 4.1's and early Diesel's were under-engineered jokes. The Northstar never lived up to its potential + bad head gaskets. The first CTS and RWD STS were bland with awful plastic interiors. And a proper Cadillac deserves a proper name, not three letters of alphabet soup.

@itisian yes, yes the Catera was the worst Cadillac, and Osama Bin Laden was the President of the U.S., hope you get the irony.

Does anyone have a Cadillac Catera super bowl commercial with Cindy Crawford wearing a black leather minidress?

I would like to see that one myself.
