Ich war damals live auf der Strecke. Wir standen sogar kurz an der besagen Zeitmessung. Ich bekam mit wie ein Sterckenhelfer noch darüber sprach, wie gefährlich es sei, weil nicht gesichert. Aber es hat keinen interessiert. Kurz danach starb Uli an der stelle. Als sie regungslos auf der Strecke lag und Ärzte um ihr Leben kämpfen, erzählte der Stadionsprecher was von neuen Pistenraupen und Beschneiungsanlagen. Das hat mich damal sehr empört und die Bilder lassen mich bis heute nicht los.

The last notable fatality that I can think of would be Natasha Richardson, obviously there will have been more recent ones but it all depends on media coverage.

I am not suggesting the highly-trained, high-level ski race competitor in this video is a "yahoo", but too many skiers of all abilities overlook the obvious hazards of the sport for the glory, the glamour, the sporting achievements, the thrills, while it is obvious there are dangers: snow irregularities, speeding by trees, becoming airborne, etc. I remember there was great shock among the female ski racers on TV when this fatality occurred, almost as if such an event was "incomprehensible".

As massively tragic as this incident and video is, there is a significant educational value to it, specifically:

1. Skiing can be a dangerous sport, and can be fatal

2. All it takes is one slip, or one "catch an edge" as happens here

3. Things can go very wrong in a split second.

I see skiers, and especially boarders, disregarding safety every time I go out on the hill. Sometimes they seriously endanger others. Too many are yahoos who think it is all fun and games with no consequences.

she caught her edge on the ski which is what flicked it away from her and either she wasnt strong enough to pull it back or her bindings were set too high so the ski didnt flick off, when she actually falls her helmet looks like it smashes straight off her head within a second so she must of almost gone head first it what ever those objects on the side are and i would assume that is what has killed her, the head impact
